Overview
So I decided to make a guide for those of you who can’t find all the butterflies in Claire. Even after two playthroughs I couldn’t find all of them so I hope this guide helps someone. I couldn’t find them all without Hailstorm-Joshua, the developper, that kindly made a list for me explaining where you could find each of them. There is a total of 13 butterflies you can obtain during the game. If you want them all, you will need to redeem at least 3 people to get the 9th butterfly, more information on that section.
Hospital
#1 Butterfly: ER Entrance – Bathroom
Explanation: Bathrooms near the beginning of the game. Claire even mentions it being there.
#2 Butterfly: ER Break Room – Clock Puzzle
Explanation: I like going for that one before getting the dog plushie, I feel like I’m saving time that way. You have to solve the puzzle to get it.
How to solve: To solve this, set the minute hand to 30 and the hour hand to 3.
#3 Butterfly: Animal Shelter Flashback
Explanation: That one is easy to miss, and if you do, there’s no backtracking, so be careful.
#4 Butterfly: Building B – Freezer
Explanation: That one you can miss if you don’t search enough.
School
#5 Butterfly: Chess Puzzle in the Library.
Explanation: This puzzle is pretty hard, I had to do random combinations until it worked. But it’s required in order to get a butterfly.
How to solve: In order to solve this puzzle, you have to align the pieces in that order: Peon, horse, tower, jester, queen, broken piece.
#6 Butterfly: 2nd floor of the school, History Wing – South Area
Explanation: It’s hidden in a locker, you have to press E to remove the flesh or whatever is covering it.
#7 Butterfly: 2nd floor of the school, Language Wing – English Room
Explanation: You have to pull/push the table in the room until the butterfly is in reach. You can jump on the table and then grab it.
#8 Butterfly: 2nd floor of the school, North Stair Hall
Explanation: That one is pretty hard to see and easy to miss. It’s hidden in the right corner of that room.
#9 Butterfly: Carnival Flashback – Fortune Teller
Explanation: That one is a bit tricky, you need to have a high soul rating in order for the fortune teller to give you a butterfly. I at least, by that point in the game, saved 3 people and I usually take the nicest options I’m offered. That should be enough to get the butterfly there.
#10 Butterfly: School 2nd floor, Mathematic Wing – West Hall
Explanation: This one is hidden in a locker, easy to spot if you wander around this optional area.
Apartments
#11 Butterfly: Apartments 1st floor, Bathroom 103.
Explanation: You have to avoid a monster and get into the furthest part of the apartment to find this butterfly inside the shower.
#12 Butterfly: Apartments 2nd floor, Nursery.
Explanation: This area is pretty easy to miss, you have to go left on the area with a bunch of doors you have to jump to reach.
#13 Butterfly: Apartments 2nd floor, Final boss
Explanation: You can’t miss that one but you can skip it. Basically after he chases you down for a few areas, you’ll be young Claire, and you’ll be allowed to turn on lights, which damages it. The trick there is to backstep before he hits you and then cross, you can’t simply sprint at him like normal monsters. Once he’s defeated he’ll drop the last butterfly, make sure to press E where he died since the light should cover the butterfly sometimes.
