Overview
While the Combine may have superior technology; that in no way makes them immune to the reversal of the cognitive modifications that have turned them against their fellow man – [REDACTED] P.S this is nothing more than a piece of fan created lore so there’s no need to call the lore police( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
What is Combine Rehumanization Surgery?
In layman’s terms Combine Rehumanization Surgery (CRHS for short) is a type of neurological surgery that is focused around the concept of removing specific mechanical receivers that have been grafted into parts of the Limbic system.
How is CRHS actually performed?
[Warning!]Considering the fact that this surgery is very risky to perform and has only been conducted once before, it would be quite a good idea to take the utmost precautions before attempting the procedure.
Step 1. acquire a living transhuman combine subject: this means that any individual that has not undergone memory suppression, such as civil protection officers, are ineligible to be operated on.
Step 2. Prep the subject for surgery: this step largely consists of ensuring the subject remains unconscious for the duration of the procedure, disrobing the subject, and gathering the necessary surgical instruments for the operation.
[Notice!] Since bleeding is likely to occur during the operation; it is advised that a separate individual is present with highly absorbent materials, which will be periodically dabbed into the incision to prevent fluid from pooling in the cranium.
Step 3. Make an incision: once the subject has been oriented so that their back is facing the ceiling(or the sky if you are outdoors) you are to make a (b) craniotomy incision of no less than 12cms(4.7 inches) in diameter.
Step 4. Remove the mechanical receivers: once the incision has been made (with the skin pulled back and cranial section removed) a series of smaller incisions are then made directly on the edges of the mechanical receivers; following this, said receivers are then removed from the Limbic system via a grasping instrument.
Step 5. Close up the subject: the small incisions directly around the extraction area of the receivers are to be cauterised to prevent internal hemorrhaging, meanwhile the section of removed scalp must be placed back in it its original position and sealed in place using raw larval pellets extracted from Antlion grubs. With the scalp itself being sutured back together using a standard suture kit.
[Notice!] Once the incision is is sutured, disinfectants (if available) are to be applied to prevent an external infection.
What does CRHS actually do?
The removal of mechanical receivers from the Limbic system should allow for the brain to regain natural control of many of its previously hijacked parts: such as the Hippocampus which controls what memories are put into long term memory storage. And the Amygdala which plays a central role in emotional responses, including feelings like pleasure, fear, anxiety and anger.
Does it work ?

It’s largely unknown what long-term psychological effects removing these receivers will have upon an individual.
