Tips
Some tips i read on the GameDevTycoon wiki or found out myself. Go to the Success Guide[gamedevtycoon.wikia.com] if you want even more tips and/or love long texts…
- It’s best to release a 9+ title right before moving into your first office. This guarantees enough money for new employees, research etc. (with that money you should immediately hire 4 employees)
- It’s easier to stick to one genre, the crowds don’t mind
- After creating your first engine don’t research ’till your first office
- Sync the vacation of your employees around the 8th month
- After you hire new employees, immediately train them with welcome training. Do contract work or research until your team recovered. Your first game with a new team should be a small one, because it will be worse than normal
- Try to train your employees after each game (once in their weakest and once in research) to make better games and always have enough RP
- When developing medium or bigger games, start around the 4th month, to gain the cheap Hype by the game conventions in month 6.
- Try to make better games by training your staff and not additional features. Only use features when your games don’t seem to becoming better (= as good as before). Upgrade your engine from time to time
- Since the game calculates your game score by your previous developed games (design and tech points), don’t make too big jumps in ‘numbers’ from game to game – you would be making your life even harder
- Bug: If you are doing contract work – when your team stops generating bubbles and the last ones are still in the air, you can quickly go into the menu and accept the same contract again. With this you don’t get the money, but you have gained research points from doing something. Use this method/bug to generate extra research points when you need them (=> when you want to pass time – e.g. till the 4th month for a new game – but you don’t have enough RP for training)
- When self-publishing bigger games, market a medium (later large) campaign with the beginning of the 2nd stage and then the cheaper marketing options from time to time
