Awesomenauts – the 2D moba Guide

[CONTEST] An Absolute Newbie's Guide to Awesomenauts for Awesomenauts

[CONTEST] An Absolute Newbie’s Guide to Awesomenauts

Overview

Awesomenauts goes Free-To-Play on the 24th of May, 2017. Do new players know the basics? Do old players know the new mechanics? Do you know what the Free-To-Play Update will bring? All this – and more – in this guide!

Introduction

Awesomenauts is a three-on-three hectic Multiplayer Online Battle Arena, with elements of other games such as platformers and fighting games. The gameplay is easy to learn hard to master, and no character is similar to any others. Many things that would be impossible in other MOBAs are possible in Awesomenauts, due to the short game time and 2D aspect, such as stationary Awesomenauts, small maps and not upgrading your abilities in the normal manner. The game goes Free-To-Play on the 24th May 2017, so why not give it a go? Read this guide to understand the very basics of this rather complicated MOBA!

The point of this guide is not to give you builds, or complicated setups. Instead, it is a guide to all characters and the basics of Awesomenauts, so it won’t be outdated by nerf or buff updates. Be careful when looking up guides, make sure they are at least since 3.8!

MOBA Basics

To understand Awesomenauts, you have to understand the very basic parts of a MOBA game. The simple stuff is as follows. Your goal is to destroy the enemies base while also defending your own.
There are two turrets blocking your way to their base, and two or more towers blocking their way to yours. Each game is different, but Awesomenauts has an average of 4 per map, some with two first turrets feeding into one, but the majority is two in a row, 4 turrets a side before going into the base. However, in true MOBA fashion, don’t think that you can gung-ho these and 1v1 them. Turrets are strong, and will rip you apart in seconds if you don’t have your droids to defend you. These little dudes spawn every 20 seconds, or 15 seconds on one map, and just walk straight towards the enemy base, only stopping to kill or be killed. In fact, these little troopers will be your bullet sponges! If you let them go in front of you when you’re attacking a turret, they will take all the hits for you, leaving you to destroy the turrets. However, the base doesn’t deal damage to you, so you don’t need to wait for the droids after destroying all turrets. That’s the very basics, now onto the game-specific things!

Awesomenauts Basics

Unlike many MOBAs, Awesomenauts is obviously on a platforming plane instead of the more common birds-eye view. This allows for deep strategy of a different kind to DotA or LoL, where you have to think about what you can’t see as you can’t move your camera without moving the character. You have 5 maps in the game, each with different dangers and traps, and 20 Base Awesomenauts, with 9 (current) DLC characters, although this will change in Update 4.1. Unlike in your average MOBA, you don’t upgrade your abilities as a whole. Instead, you decide on what you want to upgrade. Lonestar’s left click can, of course, be upgraded for more damage, but you can also increase the attack speed, add a missile, make the shots explode, or add another missile! These allow for the complicated builds seen in other games through shop items. However, you can only buy 3 items per ability so use it sparingly. Another large difference is the Superdroid. This beefy mofo turns up when you’ve destroyed a turret, as he only hangs out with the coolest kids, and slowly glides towards the lane you destroyed it on. He is a ranged droid, and deals a large amount of damage with his homing missiles. You want to take this guy out, because he will destroy your turrets very fast. Finally, Awesomenauts has a level system! Killing enemies, droids, turrets or even health creeps add to this total. Each level gives you more damage and health, as well as the rest of your team and the droids that are summoned!

The Base Awesomenauts – Froggy G to Ayla

Right then, first up are the many hired killers, assasins, bandits and other miscreants here to fight with one goal: Money! (And glory, saving the planet, revenge, or generally for fun). Don’t forget to click on the names for some good music!

Froggy G

Straight from the ghettos of Ribbit IV comes the cool cat… uh… frog, Froggy G! Froggy is a very simple and easy Assassin, being able to dish out punishment to Awesomenauts but not so much droids and turrets, but not that he doesn’t shine there either! Froggy is an easy to play, hard to master character. His short-ranged Bolt .45 Fish-Gun may seem weak, but that is not his main attack tactic. His right-click Splash Dash allows him to get up close and personal very quickly, passing through enemies while also stuning them, and even gaining intangibility for the entire duration of the move! His middle click, Tornado, turns the angry amphibian into a hurricane of hurt, doing insane damage to anyone stupid enough to get close. You know what they say, Can’t touch this![hydra-media.cursecdn.com]

Sheriff Lonestar

From the heart of the Bovinian systeam comes robotic Sherrif Lonestar! Lonestar is your basic laner in Awesomenauts. If you’ve ever played any other MOBA before in your life, you can jump in with Lone and feel at home. His abilities also perfectly encapsulate this. His primary fire, a mid-ranged blaster shot, can tear through droids at fast speeds, and if upgraded correctly, other ‘Nauts even faster. His right click is a ranged Dynamite Toss, which can destroy low-health ‘Nauts like Froggy G and Penny Fox, and also turrets. With some choice upgrades, it can even be made to bounce along the stage or absorb health from the opponent! His final ability, Charging Bull, doesn’t deal damage at the start but does push Awesomenauts and droids alike backwards, making it easier to push, or to trap an opponent somewhere they don’t want to be, such as in front of your turret! The upgrade Bull Charger even makes it explode on death, so to make it more deadly!

Leon

Bonjour, mon cheri! Leon is the camoflagued chameleon with a big old energy sword, perfect for stealth missions behind enemy Awesomenauts! The most obviously “assassin”-y Assassin, Leon draws comparisons with characters such as Loki, The Spy or Riki with his high burst damage and invisibility tactics. Leon’s primary fire is a melee-range sword strike, and can be upgraded to do exactly what you think it should, those high-damage backstabs! This upgrade alone makes Leon a force to be reckoned with, but with faster hit speeds and more base damage, he can truly devour any Awesomenaut! Leon’s right click is a fast and furious tonging of the opponent, working like a chameleon’s tongue should, snatching the enemy from the grasp of their team, straight into the waiting… arm-sword of Leon. His middle click is unsurprisingly his trademark invisibility, which can be upgraded to allow more damage on the first hit out of invisibility, making your opponents paranoid about what’s behind them and much less about what’s in front of them!

Scoop

One scoop of justice, coming right up! Scoop the Gelati Knight came to assist the Awesomenauts in their defense of AI system 205, but Scoop is also suited to attacking enemy bases. His primary fire is a two his combo, a slash and a cleave, dealing different amounts of damage and also upgraded independently. Frozen Hammer is a hammer-shaped popsicle of pain, snaring enemy ‘Nauts in its path, allowing Scoop and his team easy followups on the enemy, putting them “on ice”! His powerful middle-click ability, Binding of Justice, gives him both a heal and a bolt of pure justice that can hit anything in its range, ignoring walls, turrets or even enemy Awesomenauts! When upgraded, the Gelati Knight even gets spinning swords around him during use, slicing up ‘Nauts silly enough to come close, and allows him to heal his own team, giving the Frozen Fighter more use on any team.

Gnaw

Gnaw is the uncagable Skroggle, set loose on the battlefield by a gang of black-market cosmic bikerpirates! Everything about Gnaw is designed to make your opponent die when they least expect it. His bite has a Damage Over Time stat higher than its damage from the get-go, meaning a few left clicks are enough to scare an assassin off your lane for good. His right click, Acid Spit, melts through droppable platforms if upgraded correctly and deals an insane 300 Damage Over Time from base. His middle click, however, if where he truly shines. Weedlings are micro-turrets that shoot and hit anything in site with homing bullets. You need to get 4 hits with a bite to be able to create one, but by golly are they good. Placing them above a lane means enemy droids will always be taking damage, and their damage is good enough to at least annoy a ‘Naut as well! However, DO NOT place weedlings in health creep spawns! This means that, while your enemies don’t get any health spawns, neither does your own team. And no-one wants that.

Raelynn

Raelynn and Cuddles go a long way back, and so will the bullets into your opponents skulls! Although it doesn’t do much damage, when upgraded you will find Cuddles to be a most effective money-making tool if you get the final blow with a mouse click. Her right click attack, Timerift, is a vertical block that slows down everything in it, droids, projectiles and of course enemy Awesomenauts, allowing for easy kills with her middle click, the formidable Snipe. Easily one of the highest damaging abilities in the game, Snipe is exactly what you expect it to be. Unless you expected it to not be a high-powered laser sniper rifle capable of absolute atomic destruction in a straight line. By using a friend with a recruitment code, you even get Raelynn for free! How cool is that?

Ayla

Ayla’s not here for money or anything, she just wanted something to do after breaking out of space prison using her psychic powers. Ayla’s left click is deceptively strong, having 20% lifesteal from the start of the match, and being fast enough to make droids a thing of the past. Her right click, Evil Eye, is a high risk high reward move. At 100% health, it deals 300 damage at level one with no upgrades. at 70% this increases to 382. 45% and it’s 464. under 20% health and this projectile deals 548 damage. It also slows, meaning that your low health opponent can be decimated by your Chain Whack. Ayla’s final ability, Rage, is an odd one. It deals damage, allows Ayla to zoom across the map and even allows her to float. However, this has a heavy trade off. Every second, she takes 33 damage, which of course increases as you upgrade the move. Much like Evil Eye, use of this move is hard but so very good when used well.

The Base Awesomenauts – Clunk to Genji

Clunk

Heavy Metal has a new meaning with the one-robot apocalypse that is Clunk! This tank encapsulates what it means to be a Tank. Slow, strong, huge health pool and even Missiles as a primary fire, Clunk truly is a force of nature. His previously mentioned missiles explode, obviously, but also increase in damage as the combo goes, the first one dealing less damage than the third. His right click, Vacuum Bite, gives the good succ is a snaring close-range bite that gives 100% lifesteal, meaning it heals exactly what it deals, which is quite a lot. Finally, remember those Electrodes in Pokemon Gold/Silver that self-destructed exactly when you were about to catch them, killing your best pokemon? Clunk does the same with his middle-click, Explode. Dealing large amounts of damage to your opponents as well as you. However, this move can also be used to start a confrontation instead of finishing it, activating it before landing on an enemy from a great height!

Voltar

Voltar’s more than just a brain in a jar! Except he isn’t, character wise at least. Voltar is the first dedicated support in the game, and he is also possibly the best at it. His primary fire deals damage to enemies while also healing team-mates, albeit for a relatively small amount. His right click, suicide drones are also quite good at dealing damage, but the drones have their own function, a constant Area-of-effect damage around Voltar, dealing 20DPS per drone. This means Voltar can actually deal a large amount of damage by simply standing near people. His middle click is where he shines, however, with Healbot being one of the best healing abilities in the entire game, with a large AoE and upgradable to deal damage as well. He can also hover, which is pretty cool.

Coco Nebulon

Radical! Coco Nebulon is, like, a cosmic wavesurfer who got drafted into the war to save the world, and her finesse on the space-waves is replicated ingame by her always riding her combat waveboard! Gnarly! Coco’s basic attack, Shock, is a very short-ranged wave of attacks that hits just in front of her. However, it’s insanely large attack speed means it’s not one to be reckoned with, and can truly deal a lot of damage to the foolish target. Her right click, Ball Lightning, was the first ability designed to go through turrets and walls. Being able to be detonated at will after being fired in a straight line, the knockback of the move allows players to be knocked from the safety of their turret, or even into your own! Her middle-click, Blaze, drops a line of electic caltrops that slow and deal damage in a straight line, traced behind you for 2 seconds. These add high damage-over-time to your enemy, and will dissuade them from chasing. Wizard!

Skølldir

Skølldir the Terrible Space Viking is far from what his name suggests, and is actually one of the most versatile and offensive ‘Nauts in the game. His left click is a three-hit combo that ends in a ranged strike, dealing a lot of damage from the start of the game, and when upgraded allows him to punch bullets back to where they came from! His right click, Mighty Throw, means that no-one will ever escape the clutches of the Terribly Overweight Space Viking, as he can throw them behind him, straight into his own turret, trap them in a corner, or just in general to disorientate them. Skølldir’s middle click, Earthquake, utilises his buns of steel to literally shatter the ground, doing a lot of damage-over-time, and having a mighty range as well. He also farts to double jump, if you’re in to that.

Yuri

Monkeys… IN SPACE! Yuri is one of the strangest ‘Nauts in the game, being based around pure area-denial with his bombs, laser and energy field stopping enemies from getting to where they want to be. His primary fire, Laser, doen’t take much explaining. It’s a very simple straight firing laser, until you aim it at a wall, where it rebounds, surprising enemies! It even pierces, meaning you can rebound it off a turret into the back of an enemy Awesomenaut. Yuri’s right click is his high damage dealing mines, which can be placed in clusters in the path of launchpads or in hidden zones, doing up to 2000 burst damage in an instant. Yuri’s middle click, Time Warp, slows him up and enemies down, and even projectiles meaning Yuri can escape certain death. For Mother Russia!

Derpl Zork

Derpl is the nephew of the big boss, Blabl Zork, however he did not get any of his uncle’s intelligence, good looks, business smarts or fashion sense. They do, however, share a love of cats. This is reflected in his Walker-mode primary fire, Cat Shot. They’re small bouncing cats, dealing relatively low damage, but they’re also small bouncing cats. It’s a fair trade-off, I think. However, when he presses middle-click, this move transforms into the dastardly Gatling Gun, doing the same amount of damage as Cat Shot but at a much faster Rate of Fire. His right click also changes depending on his form, going from a long-lasting snare trap to the dastardly Nuke. The Nuke homes in on enemies, deals insane damage and can be remotely activated. It even travels straight through turrets. All this done by a drooling alien that looks like a blob of bogeys. Impressive, to say the least.

Vinnie and Spike

Dastardly crime duo and also best friends Vinnie and Spike have two things in common. They’re both fish, and they both love Solar Krab Burgers. Being the muscle of the squad, Spike handles the attacking while Vinnie shouts banter at the opponents. Their left click attack, Bubble Gun, is a 3-shot burst fire attack aimed wherever they need. Landing all three of these shots is nothing to be sniffed at, as the damage dealt will be high, especially when upgraded. The duo’s right click is Spike Dive, where Spike dives towards the opponents at high speed, firing out his own spines at the apex of his jump! This move is great for surprising low health targets, as it has enough range to strike behind turrets and through thin walls. The lads’ middle click, Smoke Screen, squirts a wall of smoke around the pair, blinding and confusing all enemies, allowing them to make a sharp getaway with the Spike Dive, see?

Genji

Not to be confused with the cybernetic Ninja of the same name, Genji the Pollen Prophet is here to spread his religion, The Order of Popae Monks! His primary fire can be upgraded to heal friendly Awesomenauts, and is also hits twice on a left click, as the butterfly functions like a boomerang! His right click, Cocoon, allows him to slow down any charging ability, meaning Raelynn’s Snipe or Clunk’s Explode are more or less useless, as you can just run away before they escape, unless Genji has this on Cooldown. His middle click, Monarch Blessing, allows him to put a shield around him and nearby allies, and also heal them if upgraded!

The Base Awesomenauts – Admiral Swiggins to Deadlift

Admiral Swiggins

Raise anchor and hoist the sails, the Admiral is here and he means business! Swiggins is much like Derpl, in that he has two modes of primary fire. When he’s holding his trusty Homboldt, Anchor Swing is more than enough to put a dent in any ‘Naut stupid enough to be close enough. However, it’s not their fault, as Swiggins is equipped with a length of chain with Homboldt at the end, allowing him to grapple onto other players and show them the reason he’s an Admiral! His middle click launches Homboldt off his arm, latching onto an enemy player if it hits for at minimum 3 seconds! This is enough time for your team to destroy the immobile target, but Homboldt can be destroyed. If this happens, Swiggins relies on his natural instinct, using a short-range ink spray to digust and destroy enemy Awesomenauts.

Rocco

The ex-Intergalactic Police Department-turned-Vigilante Rocco has one mission: rid the universe of all Space-Scum, and what better way to do that than with 2 of aforementioned scum, facing three! Rocco’s Bow is capable of firing two arrows at once at short range, and that’s exactly what his left click, Rapid Arrows, does, allowing him to take the fight up close and personal. However, when the fight turns to flight, he has another tool, Precision Shot. This infinite-range Arrow goes through everything but the enemy Awesomenaut, meaning, if timed correctly, you can even hit them just as they teleport to base! Rocco’s middle click, Vengeance, turns him into a slowing machine, transforming his Rapid Arrows into Slowing Arrows, and turning purple as he does it! With the upgrade Quickdraw Bow, he even deals an extra 50% damage while in Vengeance!

Ksenia

Genius Hair Stylist turned Stealthy Assassin (happens more often than you might think) Ksenia Pewchenko is one of the fastest and most capable Assassin characters in Awesomenauts. Although having a much shorter invisibilty than Leon, her three-hit combo and ranged throwing scissors rack up the damage faster than you can say “Short Back and Sides”. Her primary fire, Cut And Trim, is a fast way of racking up damage and destroying droids in seconds, while her right click Scissors Throw have a long range and a large amount of damage that increases with the opponent’s max health, meaning buying Power Pills may be bad early game against a capable Ksenia. Ksenia’s Vanish only lasts 4s, but she can do a lot with that 4s, as it has a one second silence on the first hit out of it, even if that attack is a Scissor!

Ix the Interloper

The Drills you’re destroying are there to farm crystals. Unfortuantely for them, Ix is a crystal, and an environmental force for good. Ix is primarily a support hero, although he is perfectly capable of dealing high damage for the good player. Radiate, his left click, is one long-ranged bolt, and three short ranged crystals, which are very good for taking out turrets, droids, and litterbugs. When Ix hits his right click, he fires off a crystal that, if it hits another ‘Naut, creates a link between the two. This will heal an ally, but also deal damage to an enemy. On another right click, Ix will Displace, swapping his and his target’s position. Finally, his middle click Refract allows him to escape nuking attacks that deal large amounts of damage very quickly.

Deadlift

Lonestar’s sworn enemy and super hench, Deadlift is a bull with attitude. His one golden arm deals more damage when he uses his left click, Iron Slam, which is a melee-ranged one two punch. His right click, Power Lunge, is a jumping charge that ends in a high-damaging explosive burst, useful for knocking enemies away from your turret. His middle click ability, Protective Pose, makes him flex in such a way that causes a protective shield to appear around you and your near allies. This move allows you to defend against attacks such as Snipe, but doesn’t last forever, decaying over time as well as weakening when taking damage.

Awesomenauts Starstorm

The first DLC pack released to the game, until 24th of May 2017 all five of the Starstorm characters are on sale for 40% off, as well as the actual DLC on Steam!

Ted McPain

Army man turned video game character turned army man Ted McPain is known for his love of fighting, and lack of pants. Ted is a one-man army, with two primary fires! When he is using his Machine Gun, he has a mid-range endless stream of bullets coming out of the dangerous end, shredding droids, turrets, ‘Nauts and creeps! However, while firing, Ted cannot move backwards, becuase retreat is for the weak! On a middle click press, however, his machine gun morphs into a short-ranged shotgun, with limited ammo that reloads one shell every 2 seconds. The Shotgun has much higher damage than the Machine Gun, however it has no range to speak of whatsoever. While Ted has his machine gun out, his right click is an Airstrike. This will go through all manner of terrain until it meets its target point, meaning that fired underneath the “safe zone” behind an enemy turret allows you to snipe them as they’re teleporting! In Shotgun mode, this turns into Stimpack, gving Ted more attack speed, more swap speed and a number of other things, depending on how you hold it. Activating Stimpack and immediately switching back to Machine Gun allows Ted to fire at full speed!

Penny Fox

Star Scout Penny Fox never expected to be drawn into the Awesomenaut War, but she sure managed it! Equipped with a robotic claw, she has the ability to be the most dangerous ganker in the game. Her primary fire, Claw, builds charges on every hit, up to 4. And with each charge, her other abilities increase in power! Her right click, Pounce, increases in damage, distance and knockback per charge, making it a force to be reckoned with at 4 charges. Similarly, her Energy Pulse increases in damage, and, when hits, amplifies all damage on the target! Using an upgrade, her primary fire even changes with full charges, turning into a ranged blaster shot.

Sentry X-58

Sentry X-58 is a robot pretending to be a phone booth. So much so that he has adopted part of the phone booth mindset. Sentry is a stellar defender but not the most offensive ‘Naut in the game, even if at his release he was called Pay 2 Win. Sentry’s primary fire, Photon Mine Launcher, is special in that the projectiles it launches hang in the air for 2s before exploding, or if someone runs into it. This can allow for devastating traps on people chasing you if placed correctly. Similarly, Sentry’s right click, Black Hole Sun, is another very odd ability. When activated, you have a shield for 2s around your character that absorbs 20% damage. Depending on how much you absorb, your next right click will fire a devastating Black Hole that sucks in everything around it, dealing an amount of damage based on what you absorbed. Sentry’s final ability, Teleport Beacon, allows him to place a brightly coloured marker for him to teleport to the next time he presses middle click, doing a small burst of damage to everyone around him. Although it seems useless for attacking, you can place this on one turret, defend another and swap back when you need to!

Skree

Hey, mon! Skree may have started to just sell a bag of weedlings, but he eventually decided to join the Awesomenauts after thinking the were gods. Or something. Skree is another ‘Naut that excels in both offensive and defensive capabilities, being able to deny pushes with force and block enemies from chasing, while also being able to chase very well himself! His primary fire, Lightning Rod, behaves differently to many other ranged ability in the game, as it automatically arcs onto another target if they’re close enough. However, this only deals half damage, so don’t be expecting to get teamwipes with this tactic. His right click, Saw Blade, fires off a quick-spinning sawblade that stays in midair for 5 seconds or until Skree returns it with another right click. It has a high attack speed and a high base damage, so it’s nothing to be trifled with! His tertiary fire, Totem Of Power, is a stationary wall that does exactly what a wall should do, stop people from going through! Or at least, it stops the enemies from going through. Friendly droids and ‘Nauts can pass through it easily. This move can block enemies in to areas allowing you to get the meaty hits on them.

Nibbs

The Awesomenauts all have different reasons for being here. Some for money, some for glory, some for something to do. Nibbs is here for the food. Nibbs is, much like the other Starstorm characters, very different to any other previously introduced ‘Naut. Based around teleport strikes and playing around the enemies strengths, she is hard to use but a real beast in the right hands. Her primary fire, Dragon Frenzy, gives her stacks of Frenzy, upgrading her attack speed. Unlike Penny, however, these don’t do anything to her other moves. Her right click is Orb Of Omicron, a travelling projectile that deals no damage until you press right click again, where Nibbs teleports to its position, dealing high burst damage and allowing a pretty easy combo into her middle click, Fire Breath, becuase you can’t be a dragon without breathing some fire! This short-ranged channeled moves can actually penetrate walls and other objects. However, it deals less damage to droids and turrets than it does to enemy Awesomenauts, so use it wisely!

Awesomenauts Overdrive

The second DLC pack released to the game, until 24th of May 2017 all five of the Overdrive characters are on sale for 40% off, as well as the actual DLC on Steam!

Professor Milton Yoolip

Ayla’s grandfather and time-travelling inventor Professor Milton Yoolip is the first character in the Overdrive expansion! His scientific doodads do… some things that we’re not really sure about, but they definitely kill things. His primary fire, Wrench Smack, his a melee-ranged whack with his wrench. It’s good for fighting droids, as not only does it damage enemy droids, it also heals allied droids, making Yoolip a formidable laner when used correctly. His right click, Gripping Gaze, stuns both an enemy and himself for 1.2 seconds, allowing your team to jump in there and deal damage, but also opening Yoolip up to attack. Best to use this when with your team, and not when you’re 1v3’ing the opponents! His middle click attack shows his time from the Mesozoic era by summoning robotic dinosaurs that walk forward in a straight line, dealing a lot of damage if used correctly. A cheeky combo is using your dinosaurs, then catching an enemy with Gripping Gaze in their path, causing dinosaur destruction!

Chucho Krokk

Chucho Krokk, the self-styled “BAD-ASS BOUNTY HUNTER”, is here to catch any criminals in the fight! He’s a criminal as well, but you can’t catch yourself. Chucho’s main gimmick is that he has two modes, much like some of the Starstorm characters. While on his Hyper Bike Ramona, his primary fire is a horizontal ranged machine gun shot, very good at melting droids and stupid enemies. However, when he’s off his bike this transforms into Double Pistol, allowing him to aim all around him, but dealing less damage. His right click also changes between Bike and no bike. On Ramona, the Bounty Hunter can escape at high speeds using his Nitro Boost, increasing his speed by 75% for 1 second. Away from Ramona, this transforms into Sticky Bomb, which attaches to enemies and allows you to cover their escape, if you get them low enough in the first place, as it deals a lot of damage! However, it takes practice to hit consistently, so be careful. His middle click is where the magic happens! Pressing it once allows Chucho to step off his bike, giving him access to Double Pistol and Sticky Bomb, while also turning Ramona into a stationary turret. However, if Ramona is destroyed, Chucho has to wait in order to let him get her back. Otherwise he can press middle click while near Ramona to jump back on her!

Jimmy, Amy and the LUX5000

Two babies in a giant mech suit, what could possibly go wrong? Jimmy and the LUX5000 are a tanky team that crushes enemies relatively easily! Their three-hit combo, Rattle Smash, ends up dealing 480 damage if they all hit, which is very high. Right click, LUX Charge, is a fast charge in any direction that knocks enemies back, allowing for setups or as a getaway option. His middle click, Missile Barrage, fires off 4 missiles, each dealing 170 damage at the start of the match. If you activate it by accident or in an unsafe position, it can even be cancelled by hitting the button again!

Max Focus

Breaking News: Max Focus is on the scene! The sentinent film camera Max Focus decided that war reporting was too boring, so he decided to make it more interesting himself! Flood Light, his primary fire, is a short-ranged burst of energy, dealing a large amount of damage while also hitting any targets in its short range. This move is very good at dealing with droids and Superdroids, and melee ‘Nauts that need to be close to deal damage! His right click, Scene Illumination, lights up your oppoents with… uh… lights that deal high damage, shredding low health ‘Nauts if you can land every shot. His final ability, Slow-Mo Shot, is a slow orb of Channel 7’s Logo that slows down any enemy caught in it, allowing for easy followups!

Tips and Tricks

Here are some basic things to remember in any game, that will probably increase your skill relatively quickly!

  • Play what you want! Don’t ignore a character because people tell you they’re not good.
  • Ayla is a large problem for new players, to counter her just stick with your team until you’re good enough to take her out!
  • Don’t chase when you don’t need to! An enemy with a crowd control effect, such as a stun or a blind, may try to get you to chase them to a turre t so you die, don’t fall for this!
  • Keep an eye on your solar, sometimes you can look down and realise you have more than 400 Solar
  • Have a general idea aout what you want to buy! This guide was made to be timeless and not be changed by balance patches, so I did not talk about specific builds However, every character has a guide made for this contest, so go take a look at what the best people are saying about their main
  • Remember, don’t get salty. Getting salty makes your play worse! Just focus on enjoying yourself
  • Most of all, try every character, you’ll never know if you like them until you try it

Final Word

I love Awesomenauts, and this F2P update may allow me to love it more! I wrote this guide to allow more people to learn the game! If you liked my guide, please rate it up so more people can see it. If you have anything to add, just comment it and I’ll consider it! If you want to translate it into another language, go ahead, just tell me so I can link it here!
