Devil May Cry® 3 Special Edition Guide

Controler SAFE solution for Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition

Controler SAFE solution

Overview

This is a SAFE method of using PS3 controller for this game.

Motion in Joy

Ok now most of the guides here will say to use Motion in Joy(will cal MiJ from now)to load the drivers for your DS3(Playstation 3)controller.
While this is the easiest method it is NOT the safest.
MiJ was never completed and while I started out using it myself I started to have problems.
The worst of which is the dreaded BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH!!!!!

Dramatic I know but for those who haven’t seen it just know it’s a big blue screen that will reset your computer constantly and for no reason and you will corrupt anything you have open when it happens.

Once I found out MiJ was responsible I tried updating it to find this only made the problem more frequent so I tried to uninstal.
However MiJ does uninstall it leaves the driver behind which means you will still get youe BSoD problem. I will not tell you how to get rid of them as you can just google that yourself.
But I WILL tell you there is an alternative to MiJ that is much safer and with better features.

Solution

Ok so here is your alternative. It’s called Xinput wrapper.
Once installed it loads the drivers for your PS3 controller AUTOMATICALY
which is something MiJ does not and CAN not do.
On top of that since uninstalling MiJ AND it’s drivers and installing Xinput wrapper
I have had no more BSoD problems.

You can find Xinput wrapper at the following link or if Steam does not like said link and deletes it just googls Xinput wrapper and click the PCSX2 link that comes up in the results.

Mapping controls

Now because I don’t know if Xinput wrapper has a key mapping program built in you may need an external mapper.

I recomend(as do a few of the guides here) Xpadder.
You can get it at this link or google it and click the sourcerforge site link.

And here is a youtube tut for using it.

Please note the comment in the video about needing an XBOX controller is NOT accurate as it works fine with Xinput aided PS3 controllers. Also it only cost’s you money if you go to the main site and download the latest version which you do not need to do. (Though if you can afford it please do support the developer of the program by buying it from the main site)
I may update this guide with instructions on how to get rid of MiJ for those who are having troubles later if I can find the relevent information.
Sorry for my spelling and grammar on this guide as it was never my strongest subject lol.

Thankyou for reading this guide. I hope this helped out a few people.
Have fun beating up demons folks. 😉

Edit: Xpadder does not fix a big issue this game has with the control sticks so I recomend you use
Léon Scarlet’s guide called
“Correction Xbox360 pad” which contains a replacement ini file which fixes that. However you will still need Xpadder to remap the L2 and R2 buttons to Q and E respectively for weapon changes as he does not add those.
