Getting started

1. The brightness setting is your friend. don't be afraid to adjust it just a little brighter than recommended if you aren't confident in your necromorph slaying abilities yet. And conversely, don't be a scaredy-cat if you're good. Adjust that sucker down a little.

Stomp on everything and watch for shinies.

2. Just about enough said. You'll quickly realize what is breakable and what isn't when you try and break everything.

3. When you "land," watch the area below the deck. There's a special shiny you can come back for later in the game. *PENG*

RUN.

4. When the time comes, a tactical retreat with your tail in between your legs may be the only thing that saves you. That time will come very early in game, and often afterwards.

The Plasma Cutter

5. You will be tempted to get rid of your first gun (the plasma cutter) as soon as you find anything else. Take this advice and say to yourself "Get thee behind me, flamethrower!" The plasma cutter is absolutely the best weapon when it comes to versatility and damage output. There are guns that do more damage, but they will fire much slower. Upgrade that bad boy and watch the limbs fly.

Limbs

6. And speaking of limbs, "You must un-learn what you have learned." Head shots will do you little to no good. Go for arms and legs, my personal preference is one leg to slow them down and one arm to put them in the ground. I also know people who just go for arms because they're often easier to dismember. That, however doesn't slow them down. You'll have to decide what you like.

Always save a power node for locked doors.

7. Power nodes are great. They do two things - one upgrade your weapons and RIG - two, they open locked doors. Use all but one to upgrade your stuff, use the last for the inevitable locked door in the next area. You'll be happy you did.

Be a man (or a woman... whatever.)

8. This game is wicked fun. It is also pretty frightening. Take it from someone who's played the console version of all three in the series a dozen times each on the hardest settings - don't quit. It's okay to take a break, but the rewarding moments come when you play through the fear and come out on top. Quitting leaves a bad taste in my mouth as I'm sure it does yours. Don't be a girly-man. Yes it's that scary for everyone. Suck it up and play through the pain. You'll be happy you did.
