DEATH ROAD TO CANADA FOR DINKS! (NO LONGER UPDATED)

Overview

Just bought the game, and you dont know exactly whats good and whats bad? GOOD NEWS! This guide is here to tell you whats good, and whats not, as well as tell you basic information you should know. This guide will include weapons, vehicles, locations, and even tips! Feel free to leave comments and information I forgot to mention!(Thank you littleflame for the title rename, it made me laugh)

THE INTRODUCTION

Are you that player who just started and is screaming “WHAT THE HELL DO I DO!?” Well. you’re in luck, because this guide will show you the basics of D.R.T.C, as well as tips and tricks

This guide is meant to give you the absolute basics and some advanced tips based on my experiences, and a few things from the official wiki page (scroll down to bottom). Big meaning on “MY EXPERIENCES,” so if I miss something, or am not right about something, tell me in a polite and kind way.

This guide will be updated when A. I feel like it, or B. I discover something new that I think is useful to know. Do not ask or question my update schedule, as that will just end up with your comment deleted.

WITHOUT FURTHER ADO, LETS GET THIS PARTY STARTED!

sorry for not updating

I’ve generally lost interest in the game. There IS still a bunch of relevent stuff in this guide, but some stuff is not included. If you want to know EVERYTHING, I put the official Wiki for Death Road to Canada right at the end of this guide. Here’s a funny gif to make it up to you!

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT QUESTIONS!

If there are some questions you still have to this game that isn’t quite clear in my guide or that I didn’t clear, feel free to put a comment with your question, or, for better chances of me responding, add me as a friend and i’ll do a little interview or some help with techincal stuff. Please note that I have no idea how to mod (cause theres probably a modding community SOMEWHERE over the rainbow) so don’t ask me that.

NOW ON WITH THE SHOW!

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE BASICS

You are playing an incredibly hard game, and may take a good 10 hours before actually BEATING the game. If you dont like incredibly hard games, or you dont like the chance of losing everything, then i’d recommend to NOT play this game. If you think you’re up for the challenge, then congratulations! You’re gonna HATE LOVE this game!

Here are a few tips to keep in mind when you play the game

~Custom characters are 10X cooler than the crappy random characters, make yourself, your friends, your family, your favorite characters from other games/movies, even your own O.C character (as long as it isnt a hedgehog)

~Through my experiences, 2 player seems to make the challenge a LITTLE harder, since the camera follows the main player, or 1st player

~an average game takes about an hour to an hour and a half, so sit tight!

~dogs are better in a few ways than humans. They are faster, can bark to distract zombies, and drive cars!

~cats really suck in the game, they only meow and stratch, can’t even drive a car!

~Stock up on throwables, cause you’ll probably need them…

~AI is kinda dumb, as in “a rubber mallet is better than a sturdy machete” dumb. Always but them on smashing, cause if you let them have a gun OR anything throwable, they’ll either waste it, or end up hurting your own team

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT STATS

STATS
You have many stats that effect your character both looting and making decisions. These can be increased to further prepare yourself for the upcoming dangers, like sieges and rescues. You have:

Attitude-Shows your chances of being positive in the zombie apocolypse, high attitude characters wont mind crummy days, and can keep morale up

Wits-your brain power. This allows you to do manipulation and persuation, along with occasionally being a backup mechanical skill

Mechanical-Your repair and build skills. This is useful for making your car go a little longer before running out of gas, and is also
useful for defensive purposes. It also might be linked to weapon durability, but im not sure there

Loyalty-Your characters hope and determination. Higher loyalty, lower chances of them stealing stuff or just leaving your crew

Shooting-Your accuracy. Better shooting, better accuracy, as well as higher chance of splattering zombies in one hit. But dont count on guns alone (especially auto guns)

Medical-Your skill in healing. Better medical means you use less medicine, and you can go up to the point where you can heal WITHOUT medicine, but thats pretty high up

Fitness-Your stamina and such. Fitness is extremely important in looting, for it allows you to alter how many swings you can get of your weapon before you get tired. It also allows for more swinging with heavy weapons, so thats pretty neat!

Strength-Your bulk. Higher strength means higher chance to one hit with weapons, and also allows you to pick up heavier furniture, from chairs to even cars!

Composure- Your coolness when in pressure. Works really well in panic-based events, like fires, and old men trying to call you “dinks”

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT LOOTING!

This game is basically a combination of Oregon Trail and a Rogue-like RPG (in the sense that theres both a part of the game spent making important descisions and a part where you go out looting yourself!) And with that comes events, some based on characters, some based on tough descisions AGIANST morale, and some based on location of looting. This part will tell you what events are necessary to know

LOOTING TIME!

When you are looting, you are usually given 2+ locations to go to loot. Loot locations are usually based on where you loot (for example, theres a good chance you’ll find a Chainsaw in a hardware store than a gun store). All places offer something, even places that dont generally look like they’re gonna give you tons of stuff. For example, a book store might have a book that can increase the skill of one of your members. (Dont forget, if there are other open houses, they too can have loot inside, sometimes related to the location). There are also some places that are more dangerous, signalled by red text or RAINBOW TEXT! Red text means a garuntee good haul on goodies, but rainbow text means either A. AMAZING haul, ot B. AMAZING rare event. But be warned: This is hard as hell, and sometimes includes sieges, but you can get plenty of things, like an alien car that dosent ever use gas, or a sweet karate master giving you skills, and thats just a few!

SPECIAL EVENTS

Special events are the rainbow text places. They range in all kinds of loot, some offer LOTS of food and ammo, while others may offer a powerful new ally, new weapon, or even new skills. I havent been to every single one of them, but i’ll offer a brief description of the ones I found

This includes:
~Concrete Bunker- a better version of the prepper cabin, with more zombies, and more loot

~Danger Rangers- a knock off of the poer rangers, you must save them to get a reward

~ Fishing Cabins- a few houses, if you have a fishing rod, you can catch a fish that offers food, skills, or weapons

~Hazardous Materials

~Hermit’s Cabin- a siege in a prepper cabin that includes a recruitable hermit

~Hotdog Heaven – basically a ton of shops offering new stuff, including a weiner mobile

~Hunting Lodge – its basically a prepper cabin with a bear that you can wre3stle for strength, or loot it for food

~Junkyard Pals

~Kung Fu Master – saving Bryce Lu from a horde of zombies, which in return, gives your main character a new powerful karate skill that can one hit zombies

~Malicious House

~Museum – a huge kinda house that has random gear, except for two rooms. One with a decent amount of food, and one with a bunch of katanas, and unlike the cheap okatu katanas you get, theres a strong katana, which is a faster version of the strong machete. Theres also, apparently to comments below, more guns, including a minigun at some points

~Mystery Factory

~Ominous Labs – a huge office with a room with a machine in it. This machine will give you a random buff, and debuff. It also has an office safe, so thats cool :3

~Spooky Graveyard

~UFO Landing Site – a siege in an open place. If you keepthe alien alive, he gives you the secrets to accessing the U.F.O car, which takes no gas. If you let him die, you get his sweet laser pistol

~Untouched Grocery Store – as the name implies, an untouched grocery store. Filled with TONS of food, enough to almost feed your party the entire road if you have a group of four. You can usually get 75-100+ food from this place, as occasional other stuff, like ammo, and gas

These are EXTREMELY hard, but usually pay extremely well.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT SIEGES

Sieges are, in its simplicity, a survival match agianst a horde of zombies. At the beginning, most sieges take an in game hour, or about a music loop. In Sieges, you CANNOT leave until its over, and there is little stuff in the place you’re taking a siege at, maybe a little bit of food and ammo, or 20 gas. If your first siege will usually end up either in a cabin, a house, or a road. When the siege is over, all zombies will disappear, giving you some time to regroup and check stuff you havent checked. After that, in all sieges, the zombies WILL continue to attack, but then you can escape. Right before canada, theres ALWAYS a siege that lasts 4 hours in game, and its… its horrible… But after that, its just a quick recovery, then CANADA!

Theres a kinda secret to to knowing when a siege happens. In my case, when you first see a chance to recruit, almost every time, a siege follows after. It also feels like it happens shortloy after trader camps, but not immediate. Theres also a chance to witness a siege in choosing your event, such as sheltering in a house, or golfing…

Thank you fox for suggesting this section

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT PETS!

We all love pets, and now we can use them for zombie slaying! Yes, this game adds 2 pets (3 if you include the goat). Those pets are dogs and cats. Here’s a little bio on each of them and their skills

DOGS

Dogs are an extremely common creature, especially when you have the “friend of dog” perk. They are usually faster than the average human, they can bark to attract zombie to it, and they can carry a weapon, and use guns. Not to mention, they can also drive cars!

Cats are rarer, but, tbh, they aren’t really good as party members. They can only scrach (which is pretty weak) and thats it. No driving cars for this kitty

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT CARS!

About half of your game will be spent in a car, this is a kinda Oregon Trail kinda part of the game, where theres little interaction, and the events are dialogue choices. When you start the game, you always start in an Old Car. If you arent the luckiest man in the world, you’ll probably end up losing your car either by lack of fuel or failure repair. When your car is gone, you end up walking, which usually ends up hurting you, or you end up losing supplies. BUT DONT WORRY! Your next looting event will garuntee a car, so you can keep on driving. You can also get a new car with places that have “with a car”, but you would need to find the keys in that map. These are the type of cars in the game

Old car/station wagon- Average starter car, with average speed, and takes 10 gas, and has normal defense.

Muscle-60’s stylish car, with high speed, takes 12 gas, and has normal defense

Hotrod-not your average hot rod, with average speed, takes 8 gas, and has horrible defense

Van-dont trust the white ones, with low speed, takes 16 gas, and has amazing defense

Hybrid-The car of the future, with average speed, takes 6 gas, and has low defense (WARNING! ITS VERY HARD TO REPAIR THIS, SO USE IT WHILE IT LASTS!)

SUV-Soccer mom’s trusty steed, with slow speed, takes 14 gas, and has good defense

Grandpa-Kick zombies off your lawn, with average speed, takes 16 gas, and has good defense

Food Truck-Sell your Greasy food, with low speed, takes 16 gas, and has great defense

Dog van-Woof bark, with low speed, takes 14 gas, and has good defense

Police Car-Bring the law- with high speed, takes 14 gas, and has good defense

Ice cream van-We all scream for…zombies, with low speed, takes 14 gas, and has good defense

Weiner Mobile- We all scream for hot dogs, with low speed, takes 18 fuel, and has amazing defense

U.F.O car-Dont tell the X-files, with high speed, takes NO fuel, and has normal defense (LIKE THE HYBRID, THIS IS ALSO EXTREMELY HARD TO REPAIR, SO ENJOY IT WHILE IT LASTS)

Clown Car-truly scarier than zombies, with average speed, takes 8 gas, and has bad defense

Well, those are all the cars I have come across, I bet there are others, but they must be extremely rare, or really bad, so tell me if I missed anything!

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT WEAPONS

Now for types of weapons. There are 4 types of weapons in my book. there are “Slashy, Stabby, Smashy, and Shooty,” They all have different sorts of attacks, and I shall tell you what each one is like

Slashy
Slashy is one of the most common weapons, which also means a lot of the weapons in Slashy are generally weak, but there are still
powerful weapons. I’ll name them from common to epic

Scissors
Kitchen Knife
Cleaver
Scalpel
Rusty Machete
Hatchet
Fire Axe
Okatu Sword
Sturdy Machete
Sturdy Sword
Chainsaw

There are a few more, but these are the ones you’ll most likely run into

Stabby
Stabby is for people who dont like getting up-close and personal, and rather poke zombies to death. If you’re one of them, you’ll need to know these goodies

Rebar
Knitting needle
Fire Poker
Pool Cue
Spear

There arent a many here, but they can be useful when in a pickle

Smashy

These are the stuff a survivor wants and needs. Most of these, you need a good fitness and strength skill, but some can still be used by low skilled people

Mallet
Purse
Hammer
frying pan
Sledgehammer
Wrench
Metal Pipe
Mega Maul

While these are heavy, they sure do the job

SHOOTY

These are powerful weapons… but dont rely on them.

Pistols-quite accurate weapons that dont shoot fast and is easy to get

Rifles-Usually super accurate and can kill two zombies

Shotguns-Not accurate, but can clear a room of zombies quickly and painlessly

Burners-This includes the blowtorch (yes, im including that as a gun) and flamethrower, this burns your zombies, but be warned, they can also burn your own team!

ANYTHING ELSE YOU MAY NEED TO KNOW

TIPS

~Smashy weapons can be used to knock down zombies easily

~Dont be smug if you have tons of food, get as much food as possible

~After 6:00 PM, you’d better hurry, zombies are more hostile at night, and an swarm

~If you see your characters sweating, dont be afraid to step into the previous room and take a quick rest before charging back in

~at sieges, stay near the door, only one zombie can enter the door at a time, so set your characters to fighting and fight away!

~Dont trust a man who looks like a pimp with rad sunglasses, NEVER!!!!

~Try to bring a shotgun or chainsaw to the end of the road

~Cats are useless, never bring a cat or something that resembles a cat into the car EVER

~Dont starve your dudes, or else they will end up going crazy, or leaving

~always be on the move, step forward to a zombie, swing, step back, repeat

~Toilets are lootable, and if you’re lucky, you’ll find the MAGICAL TOILET GENIE!!!

~Bombs and fires can hurt your own team too! When throwing a bomb, be sure to RUN AWAY!

~At least once, you’ll lose your car, if not, then holy crap, are you the luckiest man ever?

~an average character has 3 health, 3 hits, and you’re dead, that also includes 2 hits repeated!

~Rescue missions are medium difficulty, but can get ya some training, supplies, or even a new teamate!

~while on a siege early in a cabin or a house, its best to stay quick close to the one entrance for zombies to enter, for two reasons. 1.When zombies enter doorways, they normally cannot immediatly attack, so its a good time to start bashing brains! 2. because when the siege ends, you can easily escape, and dont worry, as long as YOU escape, your friends will join you, so just book it! BE WARNED, THOUGH: This will prove to be ineffective during later sieges in malls, or crumling buildings

~The shotgun will always aim for one zombie, but to use it effectively, try to aim it towards at least 3 zombies for it to do something

~Sometimes, its easier just to have some people rest, especially when in a tunnel to get a car. If you dont want to risk someone getting injured, or even worse, dying, you can go into the menu (in the preperations) and scroll to role, the Z’s means resting, and they wont follow you. This is useful if there is someone who is close to death or if theres not gonna be much loot in the area (like a rest stop)

~the Tired effect is an entire game changer! When your dudes are tired, they will not only have less fitness and strength overall, but they will sometimes just flat out lose ALL fitness and automatically do much less! It will pass by overtime later, OR if you sleep at a campfire in a town, which will also cost as much food as a normal sleeping thing

~The Knight sword, although rare and expensive, is very powerful. It can kill two zombies at once, and is basically an upgraded Sturdy Machete. Although, you should have good strength and fitness for this powerhouse

Well, you learned some tactics about the zombie apocolypse… although, if you’re starting, you’ll probably die even with these tips and tricks. But with this new information, you can go as far as getting to, perhaps, 5 days to canada. If there is anything I missed? Is there any questions about anything? Just ask me, and i’ll try to answer to the best of my ability
