DEAD RISING® Guide

DirectX Error Fix for Dead Rising

DirectX Error Fix

Overview

This guide is to help rid of the DirectX Error

Notes before we start.

  • To fix the DirectX failed to initialize Error from what I’ve gathered is couple of steps and downloads, and it SHOULD work. I cannot guarantee it will, nor am I responsible for anything that happens when downloading these updates. Do this at your own risk.
On side note, My buddy and I had the same problem, when first starting the game, Crashed our game drivers. He runs ATI, as I run Nvidia. Both of our drivers crashed. It was a one time thing, and after applying some of these updates. It seems to have stopped.

    • A buddy of mine has an ATI card, and even through doing all of this. He couldn’t get the game to run…Properly. It DOES RUN, But had significant drop is FPS after about 10 minutes of play time. He has updated all of his drivers and prerequisites aswell. I’m working on helping him fix it. If I figure it out, and anyone else has a problem with it. I will update this to include that guide as well. I hope this helps anyone with their problem

Pre-Rereq

  • First you want to travel to your Dead Rising Steamapps folder. It should look like this
  • C:Program Files (x86)SteamSteamAppscommonDead Rising
  • In the folder you should see the first top folders called “_CommonRedist” and “Nativewin64”
  • Travel into “_CommonRedist”
  • Travel into the “DirectX” Folder, Inside there is another folder (I know, lots of folders)called “Jun2010”.
  • You should see a lot of winrar and zip files. Ignore all of those and scroll down or search for an exe called “DXSETUP”
  • Run that and let that install.
  • Afterwards. Backout into the “_CommonRedist” folder and select the “VCRedist”,
  • Go to the “2012 folder” and inside you should see vcredist_x64 and x86.
  • Vcredist_x64 is for 64 BIT WINDOWS. x86 Is for 32 BIT WINDOWS
  • Select the one appropriate to your OS. Install.

*It is optional to restart, and I would recommend, but it isn’t needed.

All-In-One Runtime

  • Go and download this file
    https://www.sereby.org/site/All%20in%20One%20Runtimes
  • The download is all the way at the bottom. It should start with AIO-Runtimes…. with a white page.
  • Or if you go into google and type “All-In-One Runtimes” and look for an alternate link.
Watch where you download But most of them should be safe.
  • If you do click around in the options in the AIO, some of it is in German
  • Download and make sure netframework, directx 9.0c, and directx for managed code is enabled, along with everything else.

Option 1, or if all else fails.

  • If the previous AIO fails, or does not work. Download this file aswell. It is an update for windows.

  • Restart when asked. Allow update to install.

Check your privileges

  • Navigate to C:Program Files (x86)SteamSteamAppscommonDead Rising or wherever you keep your steamapps folders.
  • Right click on DeadRising.exe and go to properties Compatibility mode. I recommend one of the service packs.
  • Make sure at the priviledge level. You tick “Run this program as an adminitstrator”.
  • If no Sound works, either restart the game, or progress into the game for a minute. It should eventually turn on and work fine afterwards.
