Dragons … Dealing with the pesky beasts

Overview

When in game, it is a common question being asked in global chat …”How do you fight Dragons” ??Well, alot of the answers can be found here.

Disclaimer

As at writing this guide, Dragons only appear on the official Tasharen Server.

This is also not a wiki style with everthing listed … Only what is important.

There are Buffs / Debuffs involved as well, but they are so short, I doubt anyone changes their play style while they are effected … I certainly don’t.

First things first

Regardless of your level … You WILL die … sometimes a lot.

These pesky beasts have an amazing talent of destroying even the strongest tank builds.

Also, prepare for long sessions fighting them … my longest was 5+ hours, my shortest 1-2 hours.

I’ve heard of a Nether raid taking over 7 hours … unfortunately real life has forced me to quit all of my attempts at a Nether Dragon.

So with that covered, here is how you deal with the pesky beasts …

Starting a Raid instance

You need to be level 101 or higher to start a RAID instance.

However, you only need to be level 65 to take part.

To start a Nether Raid, you need to have 40% Nether Resistance equiped.

Once it starts, you need to “Open” the instance … do that by typing /open into chat.

This way you don’t need to invite players, they can join from the Players list.

Dragon breeds & how to tell what you’ll be fighting

Once in the raid, work out what breed dragon you’ll be up against …

Acid = Green water & cannon fire is also green

Shock = Bluer water & cannon fire is blue / white combined

Heat = Desert surroundings & cannon fire looks like normal

Cold = Snowy surroundings & cannon fire is light blue

Nether = Dark gloomy surroundings & cannon fire is purple

I suggest you then advertise your raid in global chat at this point … there are always players looking for raids.

You’ll need 6 or more players to activate the dragon loot drops.

The Nether dragon is rare & it’s attacks are “Life Drain”, so it’s constantly healing itself.

As you can guess, Nether raids take the longest & need the best teamwork to beat.

Below is a Shock dragon.

Dragon Essence / Ammo type

The first time you kill a dragon breed, it drops a barrel of Essence.

Equip the barrel & your ammo will then be of that type.

Keep the other barrels in your Vault & you can swap anytime you’re in town.

Basically, any ammo type can be used … just don’t use the same as the dragon type.

Using the same ammo (essence) will result in you doing little or even no damage.

In some cases, it can actually heal the dragon !!

Strategy … Step One … Towers

Concentrate on destroying, then removing enemy towers (the black ones on the mini map)

Remove them by using Explosive Charge …

NEVER capture, repair or build towers !!

Leave at least 2 towns in enemy control … the dragon spawns when there is only 1 town left.

Make sure all towns have a lighthouse … this lights them up so you can see if they’re being captured.

Just make sure it’s not placed right next to the town, as it might be black & look like it’s being captured.

Strategy … Step Two … Enemy Ships

Capture all towns & keep them controlled

The dragon will spawn, but don’t start attacking it … the enemy ships are priority

Important tips …

The enemy ships can’t respawn if they don’t control a town

Focus on the damaged ones first, they’re strong, so focusing makes it faster

Strategy … Step Three … The Dragon

This is where I change my talent specialisation from Defense to Offense (you must be at a town)

The dragon will kill you quickly anyway, so the damage boost will make your shots count more.

Use Nox on the dragon !! Nox is the green button with the yellow hand in it …

Using Grog (Flames) or the Mortar are not as useful … Nox is the most important.

Why Nox ??

Nox has a number of benefits …

It slows movement

Reduces important stats, including Accuracy, meaning you will be harder to hit

Stops it healing / capturing towns while in the cloud

Diplomacy will make your Nox cloud last longer, meaning you’ll have more time to volley until it’s ready again.

Dragon Health Milestones

When the dragon’s health gets down to 75%, then again at 50% & lastly at 25% … it will spawn enemy ships.

The best option is to have the player ships deal with them, while the flyers stay on the dragon.

Why ??

Well, although the flyers can fly over land, so can the dragon !!

You don’t want all the hard work undone by the dragon flying away over land & healing, while the ships try to catch up.

The Nether dragon also spawns smaller, weaker dragons when at the milestones.

Just use the same strategy on both at the same time … Nox / volleys.

Don’t be surprised if you see the dragon heal in battle … they can use Water Barrels just like us.

Remember, you also need to keep pressure on the main dragon, or they will heal … in the case of the Nether dragon, it could heal back to 100% health very quickly.

That’s why teamwork is so important.

Iwin … The Skull attack

This attack won’t work on the dragon, so save it for when the enemy ships spawn.

Get them into a group around you & pop them.

It’s also very good to deal with towers in step one … position yourself to get as many as you can.

Dragon Curses

When you get cursed by the dragon … Run away from the battle !!

You will know when it happens, as it’s easily seen & a countdown comes up above your ship.

While near other players, you damage them, but when it explodes at the end of the countdown, it does massive damage.

Anyone killed by the final curse explosion, will spawn an enemy ship somewhere on the map.

The best thing for cursed flyers, is to fly over land … no ships will be there.

For ships, use the mini map & find the best route away .

You need to react quickly, so pay attention.

Killing the Dragon

When the dragon finally dies, you will get lots of XP pop ups above your ship.

Take note of where it was if you weren’t at the site (look for the big group of players on the mni map).

However, this may not be the end of the raid.

Kill the other enemy ships as fast as you can.

The raid is over when the summary window pops up.

Rewards

The dragon will drop barrels or chests bound to you … normally rare items, so well worth the time.

You have approx 10 minutes to collect them, so you have time.

IF the raid is still going, I suggest once you have your loot … find the enemy ships & let the others get their loot.

Final Words of advice

Good teamwork will make it take less time & NOX … NOX …. NOX

So there you have it.

Have fun & Good Luck !!
