Overview
This guide provides a download of a program called GRP Studio that I will show you how to use in order to, if not completely cancel out crashing, stop the amount of crashes on Duke Nukem 3D Megaton Edition Multiplayer.
Explanation and Shout out to Developers.
Many of you are aware of the amount of crashes that Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition will give you upon entering a multiplayer game with more than 4 players. (With all do respect to the devs) The developers had either gotten lazy or just gave up on the game all together. Word has it that they are making a new game or whatever and are too busy to fix the MP. I have done everyone here a favor, the devs and the players, by fixing a SIMPLE problem in the coding.
Check this out! All I did was open the .grp file in a program called GRP Studio, and deleted the .DMO files! Simple as that! I noticed that an error would appear upon loading a multiplayer game, stating that “demo1.DMO was incompatible with the version. (117)” And I did my research on the file and found that demo1.DMO was used for saving a demo clip of your last online multiplayer games back when modem games were used. All I did was remove them because Megaton is incapable of saving clips of online games and this may have caused an issue with the game itself, causing crash after crash! So ladies and gentlemen, you are welcome!
NOTE: I have played 10 games after I changed the .grp file, and each game would play with either lag or no lag (because this is still over the internet), but the games did not crash. Each game varied with the amount of players. They ranged from 2-6 players and each game was played without signs of crashing! I trust that this issue being resolved may have improved the multiplayer, but I’m not sure that it’s still 100% crash-free. (Keep in mind)
Download and Instructions
Now that you know the story, you can go ahead and download the stuff right here! Don’t worry, it’s virus-free! 😀

Instructions after download:
Now that you have downloaded GRP Studio, it may get a little tricky but most of it is easy to understand. It’s not rocket science people! Just follow these instructions to fix your game. (I had to take down the duke3d.grp file because of a little scare with piracy, but it’s whatever. It’s more work but it pays off.)
1. Make a folder on your Desktop and name it GRP Studio and extract the zip file into that folder.
2. Run GrpStudio.exe and it should load up a little box like this:
(The picture shown is of .art files within duke3d.grp that are being tampered with.)
3. Locate the duke3d.grp file from within your Duke Nukem 3D folder inside Steam.
(Steam/SteamApps/common/Duke Nukem 3D/gameroot)
Open the .grp file in GrpStudio and find a tab labelled “DEMO Files.” Just right-click and delete them! Simple as that!
Once you have deleted the files, save the .grp file and exit GrpStudio. You did it! Now MP should crash a lot less, if not completely stop altogether!
See? That wasn’t so hard now was it? That goes for the players AND the devs! Shame on you General Arcade! Left the DN3D:ME Multiplayer community in my hands, haha!
Like I said before, this doesn’t guarantee 100% crash-free games, but it will drastically decrease the amount of crashes you will be getting. This guide and fix was founded by StarCraftZerg (That’s me) and if you have any further questions, feel free to ask me on Steam! Have fun on MP everyone!
