Dynasty Warriors 8: The Ultimate Controller Guide

Overview

This guide is everything you need to know to properly set up Dynasty Warriors 8 with your controller, and configurations to map it perfect to an Xbox 360 or Xbox One controller.

Getting Started

Okay, so you purchased Dynasty Warriors 8, and your controller isn’t working at all or not working correctly. Well the reason for that is because the button configuration is all screwed up! Let’s fix that!

Make sure your controller is powered on before you start up the game, as some games won’t recognize controllers that are powered on or connected before the game has started up.

Also, this guide pertains to Xbox 360 and Xbox One controllers, though if you have a PS3/PS4 Controller you can follow this guide too, but you might have to improvise when it comes to selecting a good button configuration.

Okay, so let’s dive right in!

Mapping the Controls

So mapping the controls is pretty simple. Go to Options, Controller, and P1 Settings.
Press F12 to clear all of the preset controller configurations so you have a blank slate to start adding buttons!

Then map the buttons to the following:

Action
Button
Left, Right, Up, Down Movement
Left Analog Stick
Left, Right, Up, and Down Camera
Right Analog Stick
Normal Attack
X
Strong Attack
Y
Confirm/Musou Attack
A
Jump
B
Strafe/Guard
Left Trigger
Call Horse
Left Bumper
Rage
Right Trigger
Switch Weapons
Right Bumper
Display Info Screen
Start
Pause
Select
Toggle Map
Right Stick Press
Command Bodyguard 1
D-Pad Left
Command Bodyguard 2
D-Pad Right
Command Bodyguard 3
D-Pad Up
Command Bodyguard 4
D-Pad Down

If you have a PS3/PS4 Controller, most of the buttons will be simmilar, but instead of ABXY it’ll be Square, X Triangle, etc…

FAQ and Guide Conclusion

I hope this helps anyone who’s having trouble with the controller in this game. Once this is set up, the game works perfectly and is a lot of fun! Now let’s address some controller issues that are common.

Q: The Game isn’t detecting my controller!
A: Make sure to power on or plug in the controller BEFORE starting the game as the game might not recognize the controller if the controller is powered on after the game is started. The best fix for this is to restart your game.

Q: I did that, and it still won’t detect it!
A: Check your Windows Device Manager and make sure Windows is detecting it.

Q: Windows Says it’s there dude!
A: Try right clicking the controller in the device driver and uninstall then reinstall the device driver. This should fix the issue.

Q: Why isn’t the A button Jump?
A: Because the confirm button is bound to the Muosu Attack, and the Jump Button is the designated back button. I made jump B, as it’s logical when exiting menus to press B instead of A. If this bothers you in gameplay, just simply swap the buttons. I personally prefer B being jump however. But this guide is to help you and you can easily map the buttons however you want!
