Overview
The Basic IdeaThis guide is here to help you collect all the eggs (22 in all) in Tattletail (the main game). I will do my best to describe the locations of each egg and how to get to them, since I know the house set up can be a little confusing sometimes, especially for new players and especially when you’re in a panic over Mama. I will also offer some player tips for certain sections to make it easier for you to collect the eggs and survive. I hope you find this guide helpful! It’s important to remember that eggs accumulate over multiple playthroughs and it saves when you find an egg, even if you die after. If you can not find one of the eggs I mentioned, you probably already got it in another playthrough. If you miss one of the eggs I mention, you can always replay that chapter after you finish the game. If you worry this might confuse you, you can go into the options and reset your game. This does not remove your achievements. What you will get The satisfaction of collecting all of the eggs. The good ending. The achievement “Presents for You”. a golden, long lasting flashlight that you can use in replays and in the DLC.Warning: Obviously this will have story/gameplay spoilers. You have been warned.
Night 1: A Night To Remember
Total number of eggs: Three
This night is fairly short. All you have to do is pick up Tattletail, feed him, brush him, then return him to his box and go back to bed. It is important to keep in mind that you can run all you want during this night, since Mama is not yet active. This means that you can easily just run around the house for as long as you want, looking for eggs. Remember: It does not matter what order you get the eggs in, so long as you get them all.
The first egg that’s easiest to find is the one next to Tattletail’s box, which you will find simply by playing the night normally. Go to the fridge near the basement steps, give Tattletail food, go to the brush near the Christmas tree, just across from the kitchen, brush him, then go back to the basement and return to the room where you found Tattletail (the room right next to the treadmill). In this case, do not put Tattletail in the box before getting the egg! This will cause the egg to disappear and you will not be able to reverse it. This is considered egg #2.
Next, when you are walking to your bedroom (the hallway exactly to the right of the basement stairs), the front door (door at the end of the hallway right next to your bedroom) will now be open. An egg is sitting just outside. This is technically egg #1.
Lastly, enter your bedroom (to the right in the hallway with the front door). You will find an egg sitting on your bedside table on top of a book called “The Little Peach” (I have no idea if that’s a real book). Collect it and you will collect all the eggs for the first night. This is egg #3.
As I said earlier, you can collect the eggs in any order you want, however, eggs do go in a linear order via night. Aka you won’t find egg #21 or #16 on night one. Also, if there is an egg #14 and an egg #16, there most definitely is an egg #15 that night. This is important because it helps you keep track of your collection. For example, in this night, if you find egg #1 and egg #3 but are missing that middle egg #2, you have missed an egg for that night. Circle back around and look for it. Keep track of the eggs numbers and look for missing gaps.
By the end of this night you should have 3/22 eggs.
Night 2: Minor Mischief
Total number of eggs: Three
Similar to night one, this night is very simple. You have to investigate the clunking noise (Tattletail in the washer), charge Tattletail (next to the chair in the middle of the basement on a table), break a vase (horrible, I know), finally get a flashlight, put Tattletail away, then go back to bed. Mama is still not active, so you can run as much as you want.
The first egg is very easy to collect. All you have to do is go to the washer (go downstairs/to the basement, the washer is right next to Tattletail’s room and right next to a metal shelf, both left of the chair) and you will find it sitting right next to it. You can collect this before or after getting Tattletail out of the washer and before or after picking him up. This is egg #4.
The next egg is extremely easy to collect as well. Go to the room in the basement that is located near the front of the chair (it has an open entryway with no door). Then, from there, go to the room on the left with a door. The egg is sitting on an old washer/dry just across from the vase, hidden at first by a curtain, but visible once you peer around it. You can pick this up before or after breaking the vase/the lights go out and before or after picking up the flashlight. This is egg #5.
Lastly, the final egg is simply found on one of the rock like boxes behind the chair in the main room of the basement. This is egg #6. After collecting this egg you are safe to go to bed.
By the end of this chapter you should have 6/22 eggs.
Night 3: Mama’s Boy
Total number of eggs: Six
This is the night where the game starts to ramp up and you have to start dealing with Mama. That being said, you can run at the beginning of the night (when finding Mama and when going to find Tattletail) and at the end of the night when all the lights are on (you can tell when it is safe to make noise by the lights, make sure to check in the usual areas; the kitchen and the main area of basement. If they are off or suddenly flick off, it is not safe, if they are on or flicker back on, it is. You can also tell by the music, which usually closely follows the lights, and by Tattletail. If he is randomly chattering it is safe, if he is silent except for his needs, it is not safe). For most of this night you are just going from point A to Point B (basement, upstairs, basement, upstairs, bed). Don’t worry, you won’t have to collect any of the eggs on this night while dealing with Mama.
Six might sound like a lot, but the majority of them are found exactly in the same spot and are very easy to collect if you simply follow them. Go down into the basement and go to the room behind the middle chair. It is very easy to spot due to the trail of eggs. Simply collect the eggs as you go along and you’ll be good to go. Don’t worry, Mama isn’t active and will not attack you, even if you get close. This includes when you have inserted the tape as well. These are eggs #7, #8, #9, #10, and #11.
The final egg is actually found in the same location, however, it won’t appear until you return to Mama with Tattletail. Go back upstairs and to the living room/Christmas tree (just across from the kitchen and basement stairs). After picking him up and going back to the room with Mama (behind the chair, which you can safely sprint to), you will see that Mama is no longer there, an egg resting in her place. This is egg #12.
As for tips for how to survive Mama, just remember that, when you are alone, you sometimes really don’t need your flashlight. My advice would be to go upstairs and either wait Mama out (she doesn’t stand around forever, just sit there and wait for the lights to come back on) or carefully make your way over to the mess with little use of your light.
By the end of this night you should have 12/22 eggs.
Night 4: Funny Games/Video Horror System
Total number of Eggs: Five
This is probably the second hardest night of the game (the first is coming up…), though the majority of the eggs can be found just by progressing the story. You technically can snatch all of the eggs before having to fully put up with Mama. This night consists of surviving three games of hide and seek and then watching a VHS tape.
The first egg, unlike the others, is not found by playing hide and seek and should be snatched up before fully getting into the night. You can find this egg on the kitchen counter next to the candles, the microwave, and the sink, on the corner closest to the basement and window. This is egg #17, hinting at the many more to come.
After you have done that, head toward the garage (just go through the doors to the right of the fridge, which are usually closed but are now open) then head to the pavement and you’ll find an open garage, where Tattletail is happily chatting with a friend. Pick up Tattletail and click on his friend to begin the game of hide and seek. We know he says no peeking but, if you turn around after he is gone (or even keep staring, he doesn’t seem to mind) you will realize that an egg is sitting there in his place. This is egg #13, get it before worrying about Mama.
The second egg is found in the same fashion. Find the yellow Tattletail hiding under the tree in the living room (if you ever have issues finding him, which you can only do after Mama is gone, just follow his voice saying “me hiding”) and then click him again to initiate another game of hide and seek once more. Again, after he disappears, he will leave an egg in his place under the tree. This is egg #15, egg #14, oddly enough, is linearly found later.
The next egg is found in the same fashion. After Mama is gone, go into your room (next to the front door and in the hallway next to the basement) and you will find the yellow Tattletail in your closet across from your bed. He is in plain sight and clearly isn’t the best at hiding. Find him, then click him once again to begin the final game of hide and seek. Just like before, he will leave an egg in the closet in his place. This is the missing egg #14.
The final egg is collected in a different fashion, though you still have to make it through the last game of hide and seek. After Mama is gone, find the Yellow Tattletail in Mama’s old ketchup corner (room behind the chair in the basement). The egg will be there before you even technically “find him”. This is egg #16.
The only tips I have for surviving Mama is to remember that you are the one that initiates the games of hide and seek. This means you can take care of Tattletail’s needs before hand. Also remember to calmly walk away from Mama before shaking your flashlight.
By the end of this night you should have 17/22 eggs.
Night 5: The Party/The Ritual
Total number of eggs: Four
Welcome to the hell that is the first place winner of the “hardest part of the game” award. All the eggs you can find before the ritual are scattered around the indoors and outdoors and I would highly recommend you collect them all before really getting this night started (aka before sitting Tattletail down in the basement), unlike me. It is a much easier task when Mama isn’t around. This night consists of transporting two Tattletails, both with a need that must be filled, to the basement, transporting three supplies to the basement, and completing a ritual, all while trying to survive Mama.
Keeping the goal of getting the eggs beforehand in mind, the first place you should head to is the bathroom. It is the closest location to you at the start, seeing as it is right next to the bedroom. You will find the egg on top of the toilet’s tank lid. This is egg #18 (remember, you found egg #17 at the beginning of the last chapter, so don’t panic when you don’t find it in this one).
The second closest egg is outside. Go out the front door (similarly to the bathroom, it is right next to your bedroom) then go to the right. There you will see a dog house with an egg inside. This is egg #19.
The third and last egg you can find before the ritual is outside as well, but you’ll need to go a different path to find it. Go out the doors in the kitchen near the fridge, the common path to get to the garage. In the corner of the house, behind a bush, you will find an egg. I personally found this egg after I fetched the second/blue Tattletail that was in the garage. Of course, I ended up dying (though at least I didn’t have to collect it again). I am unsure if the egg only appears after you do so or before, but it’s worth checking before, when stress is low. This is egg #20.
Luckily you don’t have to collect any eggs during the ceremony. Don’t make my mistake and assume an egg is in one of the vases, it isn’t. Only worry about getting the candles. You can only get the final egg after the ritual. Head upstairs and go down the right/bedroom hallway. You will see an egg in front of your mother’s door (the door right next to the basement door). This is egg #21, I accidentally clicked before being able to screenshot the little message so, my apologies.
As I said earlier, this night is a real pain. My best advice is to be patient and to wait Mama out. Sadly Mama becomes active whenever you pick up a Tattletail, however, it is easier to wait her out before picking one up. I would suggest staying where you are, waiting, then going to get the Tattletail. When you have the Tattletails, immediately tend to their needs (for the blue/hungry one, since it is already making so much noise from the get go, it’s usually best to just run to the fridge), then carefully go to the basement (the door by the fridge is usually the easiest and closest. Yes this door does open after you place down Tattletail). Place the Tattletail down as soon as possible then, no longer having to worry about them being noisy, just let your flashlight die and wait. As for the supply runs, you can wait until Mama calms down to deliver them. Tend to Tattletail’s needs then, when Mama is no longer active, sprint to the supply and then sprint it back. This is what worked for me. No, you can not collect more than one item at a time. For the ritual and candles, spot where Mama is, then walk in the opposite direction and turn on your flashlight when you are at a good distance (it is very hard to walk around without it). If you need to center yourself, just follow the voices of the Tattletails or look for their rocking forms, stand in the center of their little ritual, and look around for Mama. Take it slow.
Ps: Since some might be wondering, yes the ritual is a linear event that can not be changed. Just do it.
By the end of this night you should have 21/22 eggs. (You should be missing one egg, this is not a mistake)
6: Christmas Day
Total number of eggs: One
Yes, don’t panic, you truly do get the last egg on Christmas day. This final stretch is extremely short and does not require any survival skills from you at all. Mama is gone, literally all you need to do is get the egg, open your present, and wake up mom. What is in the present will show you whether or not you got the good ending or the bad ending.
To get the final egg, go into the living room with the Christmas tree. There is a stocking on the fireplace to the right. Click down on it to receive the last egg. This, of course, is egg #22. Absolutely do not open your present before collecting this egg (unless you want to get the bad ending first, then load this chapter back up, get the egg, and then get the good ending).
If you missed an egg, you will get jumpscared by Mama when opening the present and get the bad ending. I won’t spoil what happens if you get the good ending, you’ll know when you open your present. When you open the present, it is always slow with dramatic music no matter what ending you get, so don’t let that deter you. You will only know at the last minute. Also keep in mind that you will unlock the DLC regardless of what ending you get. If you got it, congratulations! If not, maybe circle back to a few nights/chapters and feel free to ask for clarification if you need it.
By the end you should have 22/22 eggs!
