Everything you need to know about Dino Racing.

Overview

Every little detail and mechanic you should know in multiplayer dino racing plus some tips and advice.

General advice

Sadly there aren’t players in the game most of the time but there’s a discord server[discord.com] where you can be notified when others are racing or just initiate a race by yourself.

When you actually start racing however try to keep your eyes on the road, ignore the distance bar at the bottom, it’s nothing but a distraction since it doesn’t matter where your opponents are, make sure the majority of your attention goes to the right section of the map since that’s where you can see upcoming buffs, critters, hot dactyls, pits, obstacles, boulders and other dinos before they actually come close to you, (and you’ll be able to avoid situations like these) this will obviously give you plenty of extra time to react properly to each event. However, you should also mind spaces above and behind your dino since boulders might come from behind as well as normal Pteros that might be used to fly in some situations.

Being efficient.

Sprinting

You must always press the Shift key to sprint for a while and keep up with other players, the cooldown is about 20 seconds so you could count and starting spamming Shift to use it as soon as possible. It’s also worth noting that you should disable the Sticky Keys poppup which would interrupt you.

Buffs

You should also pick up all yellow speed flowers to keep your speed high, remember to duck everytime and try to spot all of them, some of them are behind trees but you can see the sparkles so be attentive, they give a speed bonus for 12 seconds so it’s often worth turning around for.

The purple jump flowers, however, can actually slow you down so it’s not recommended to pick them up every time, being in the air is a lot slower than running on ground and the buff increases your airtime and could ruin your momentum.

Critters

Eating any critter also gives you some time of speed buff, Roadrunners and Lizards give 3 seconds of speed but eating these creatures needs ducking down(same with the worm) and eating them slows you down for fractions of a seconds so it’s better to eat 1 out of multiple runners and lizards at a time to minimize the eating animation slowdown.

Worms, birds and fish give you 8 seconds of speed without slowing you down therefore it could be a good idea to return to them(except birds since it’s impossible the catch them after the first attempt)

Eggs

and eating 4 normal eggs at once or a falling pterodactyl egg also gives speed but they’re much harder to get and only give 3 seconds of speed so it’s very risky and they’re usually not worth turning around or doing slow manouvers.

Other Dinos and Boulders.

Regular Pteros

Pterodactyls may seem like a lot of help but most of the time getting flown by them is a bad idea, if you have a speed buff it’s gonna be wasted during flight, sometimes pteros are also slower than normal running speed so it’s very risky to go on a ptero and the payoff isn’t usually worth it since they tend to drop you sooner in multiplayer races and might drop you in pits. But they are very efficient while going uphill or going over large pits and lakes so keep a lookout for them during these sections of the map.

Red Hot Dactyls

Hot Dactyls are very annoying but it’s simple to dodge them by just ducking if you’re attentive to the right side of the screen, sometimes it’s better to jump over them depending on wether you’re going uphill or downhill. It’s also possible to jump on Hot Dactyls and get a knockback boost but this is very risky with very little reward so I personally wouldn’t recommend it especially since this requires a lot of training.

Parasaur

Riding a Parasaur doesn’t help much, it allows you to phase through critters, stegos and triceras and also has a lot more strength to throw boulders around but they don’t give much of a speed benefit, they’re horrible at jumping and don’t allow you to use speed buffs just like Pteros, they get bodyblocked by other players so it’s usually useless and more of a problem than an opportunity.

Stegos and Triceras

Both Stegosaurusi and Triceratops don’t need much strategy to face, they can be jumped over quite easily, unless they’re going uphill, then they’re impossible to go over and you usually have to wait, this is just an unfortunate accident that just happens once in a while and you must try your best in the rest of the race to make up for it.

Other players.

General Info

Other Raptors can be ignored in most cases since they can’t eat the critters and eggs on your screen but they can take away Ptero rides, push boulders and even stomp you, most players don’t usually try to slow others down, especially when there are more than just two players, slowing down yourself to interrupt another player is a terrible idea since it just allows other players to go further or take the lead from the two of you, unless you’re in the far lead it’s usually not worth it.

Stomping

Stomping is a mechanic that allows you to slow other players down by jumping and ducking while falling on top of them, as I mentioned above this is not the best idea usually since hard dropping on the ground cancels out all the momentum you have, the airtime and stomping duration of slowing down is not worth the damage. But it can be used while going uphill because going uphill forces you to jump a lot anyway and there isn’t much speed to lose while climbing.

Boulders

In some maps boulders spawn behind players, in multiplayer they spawn behind the leading player and this can be a big problem for players in the back, especially the ones right behind the winning player, this gives the leading players a great opportunity to keep the lead by slowing others down. So in some maps it’s all about being the best at the start of the race.
