Overview
This guide will be about the fourth level introduced to Paint The Town Red, which is the Pirate Cove. This level is the second level to be added after the base game, and while not having as many unique mechanics, its setting is interesting. It has 66 enemies in the level.
The Main Parts
This level has one or two new goodies, but mostly, there are some recurring elements.
A completely new feature with this level is the ability to play it in either day or night on the level select screen.
Making it either look like this…
Or this…
Not a big feature, but worth mentioning.
On this map there’s also a flintlock pistol you can find.
Go to the boat right of your spawn and find this dagger in the rope.
Take it and it will sling you up on to the rope between the two sails.
Walk to the other end and you will see the pistol.
Like the shotgun, it cannot be reloaded, and as such only has one round, but it will pretty much instantly kill any enemy if used right.
There are also two hidden cutlasses in the level, behind some rocks. This will show you where to find them.
The first is in front of the ship.
Simply arrive here and jump rock to rock, and you should reach this.
Strangely, in the Beneath update, a symbol was hidden in a bunch of places around each of the levels. This one in particular having a new enemy from said mode etching it into the wall. Also strangely, this enemy doesn’t count towards the total amount, making it still 66.
The second is on the beach. If you look, you should see a formation.
This one is slightly trickier. Jump up the rocks and then jump around, onto a ledge. You should see this wedged in a gap.
In this area, you can also find a second flintlock pistol.
To get it, pick up the paddle to the left of the cutlass, and it will be behind it.
At the top of the bar, sits this dude. He will sit at his table and if disturbed, will pick up his sword and attack you, along with his bodyguards. The cutlass will do massive damage, and he is aggressive by default, so be careful.
Like all bosses, he will not engage in the riot until few enemies remain, at which point him and his men will seek you out.
Unlike the biker boss, his weapon cannot be taken from him before he picks it up.
He has a total of 6 bodyguards, who are all slightly tougher than average
(1.5x Health/1.2x Attack speed and damage),
while Blackbeard himself has 4.5x Health/1.7x Attack speed/1.5x Attack damage.
These can prove problematic in their own way, as they are also slightly tougher than the average enemy.
On this level, are a new form of environmental weapon, which is the cannons.
There are two on the level. One behind your spawn, as shown here, pointing at a pirate on the pier.
And the other just in front, pointing at two in front of the door.
To the far right of the beach, you will see two blue coats preparing for a duel. There are three of them on the map, with another being on the ship. Like the bodyguards of the pirate, they are also slightly tougher than the average enemy (2.5x Health/1.2 Attack speed/1.5 Attack damage), and all of them carry the powerful cutlass. Like most special areas, they will also not engage in the riot once it’s started, unless you started it by walking near them. Like most as well, they will attack once the enemy count gets low enough.
(Note: Walking into this area before starting the riot will start it.)
The Secret/Not So Secret Weapons
There are quite a few to cover in this section, as like Prison Riot, most of the weapons come from enemies that are already carrying them.
We’ll start with the stationary weapons first.
(This one, to be precise.)
And for weapons that are actually on enemies…
The Closing Notes
This has been the last level for a good while. If any new maps get added, I’ll cover them, though.
