Overview
The Army of Rome, the envy of antiquity, can now be yours! (Unless your a Pict, Hibernian, Hun, German, or Persian)—–The Custom Faction “EXERCITVS ROMANVS” (Literally means Roman Army) was made in a whopping 2-3 hours after I discovered the Unit Creator update had happened a week after everybody else knew about it. Most of the units are based off of classical Roman soldiers rather than Eastern Roman/Byzantine soldiers since less armor and clothing for Byzantines is currently available in unit creator. The Faction comes with (at the time of writing) 8 custom units, but more will be added over time. Lets go through each of them, shall we?—–1. LEGIONARIVS (Legionary)The backbone of the Army, the Legionary carries a Gladius (Sword) as the primary weapon and Scutum (Heavy Rectangular Shield) as the secondary weapon. The unit model is based off of the typical Roman Legionary from the early to mid Principate of the Imperial era.STATS:Hitpoints: 100Size: 1xWeight: 1xSpeed: 1xAttack Speed: 1.2xDamage: 1.5xCost: 1752. AVXILLIA (Auxilliary Infantry)The Auxilliary is a slightly weaker infantry unit meant to be used as a backup to the Legionaries. They carry Short Spears as primary weapons and round shields as secondary weapons. The unit model is also based off of the Principate, like the legionaries. For an idea as to what Auxilliaries look like, the Romans in the branding picture are Auxilliaries.STATS:Hitpoints: 100Size: 1xWeight: 0.9xSpeed: 1xAttack Speed: 1.5xDamage: 1xCost: 1403. CENTVRIO (Centurion)Centurions are officers put in-charge of a CENTVRIA, or Century when anglicized, which was the smallest tactical unit in the Roman Legion (80 Men). Centurions carry the same equipment as legionaries but are much stronger. The unit model is also from the Principate.STATS:Hitpoints: 250Size: 1xWeight: 1.2xSpeed: 1xAttack Speed: 1.3xDamage: 1.5xCost: 3004. SIGNIFERORVM (Standard Bearer)A Roman Standard Bearer, anglicized as Signifer, carried the Signum (Standard) for a Roman Cohort or Century. Signifers are lightly armed and weaker than most units, carrying a Banner as their primary weapon and a Short Sword as their secondary weapon. Signifers do not carry shields so make sure they are protected from projectiles.STATS:Hitpoints: 90Size: 1xWeight: 0.8xSpeed: 1xAttack Speed: 1.2xDamage: 1xCost: 2505. LEGATVS (Legate)The Legate is the officer in-charge of a Roman Legion (5000 Men). The Legate is lightly armed, carrying just a Gladius with no shield, but has a higher average health to compensate.STATS:Hitpoints: 150Size: 1xWeight: 0.9xSpeed: 1xAttack Speed: 2xDamage: 2xCost: 5006. OPTIO (Optio)The Optio is the second-in-command of a Century. The Optio would stay at the rear of the Century to make sure the rear was in order and that the Centurion’s orders were being relayed and followed. The Optio would take command of a Century if the Centurion wasnt able to command. The Optio carries a Gladius and Scutum like Legionaries and Centurions, but has less average health and deals less damage than a Centurion.STATS:Hitpoints: 200Size: 1xWeight: 1.1xSpeed: 1xAttack Speed: 1.5xDamage: 1.3xCost: 2007. VELES (Skirmishers)VELES were skirmishers that were a part of the Velites, a skirmisher unit, in the Pre-Marius Roman Army (<— Thats 1-2 centuries before the Principate began for reference). Skirmishers are very lightly armed, with short swords and small circular shields, but fast moving and fast hitting. They were meant to attack small groups of soldiers and typically opened the battle.STATS:Hitpoints: 80Size: 1xWeight: 0.8xSpeed: 1.4x (<— Fast Enough to Catch up to Bards for Reference)Attack Speed: 2xDamage: 1xCost: 2608. SAGITTARIVS (Archers)SAGITTARII, or Sagittarii when anglicized, were specialized auxilliary soldiers who served as archers. They are lightly armed, with only bows and arrows to defend themselves. Put them behind melee units for protection and maximum usage.STATS:Hitpoints: 90Size: 1xWeight: 0.8xSpeed: 1xAttack Speed: 2xDamage: 1.2xCost: 200—-Thank you for reading this far and I hope you are interested in EXERCITVS ROMANVS! You can find it in the TABS Workshop by simply putting the name EXERCITVS ROMANVS in the search bar. I'll try to add units as frequently as I can whenever I get the idea for a new one. I'll be looking at later classical Roman soldiers and Byzantine soldiers in the future so stay tuned. Also, this is my first TABS upload so any feedback (positive or negative) is appreciated.Good luck on your conquests, Imperator! Your reliable legions will be by your side all the way! AVE ROMA!
