A guide on how to cheat Merchant’s out of caps.
Introduction
I want to start off by saying that this is a problem in the game engine, not a specific glitch in game. Therefor, it cannot be patched, and works on both Fallout 3 and New Vegas. This glitch will work on any vendor in the game in wich you speak to and open up the trading GUI.
The Walkthrough
This should go without saying, but doing this will break the game, for, hopefully, obvious reasons. If you’re okay with that, then let’s move on.
Talk to any potential merchant and bring up the trading menu. Find any 2 of the same items (i.e. 2 laser pistols or 2 leather armor) and purchase the one with a lower condition. Immediately sell it back, and then buy the same on with the lower condition again. If you did this properly, than the item should now be in perfect condition, allowing you to sell it back to them for a higher price than you paid for it. When I use this glitch, I like to buy everything I want from them, then use it to get all of my caps back. I also feel it nescesary to say that if the merchant doesn’t initially have 2 of the same item, you can sell him 2 and then work the glitch as normal from there on.
