Chapter 1

I stare at the bright stars. “What are they saying?” I ask my mother. “They don’t speak. They guide us to our destinies, Summer.” my mother meowed. The large brown lynx and picked me up and brought me to the den. “What’s my destiny, Mama?” I asked. She looked thoughtful for a second. “I don’t know, but I do know that you decide your destiny. You decide where you go, what you do and what your role in life is.” She said. “Goodnight mama!” I said, soon falling asleep.

I hear mom and the cubs get up. All exept me and someone else. She pushed me. “Sunny! Wake up!” She mewed. I opened my eyes to Stormie, pushing me. Mom, Cookie, and Snowstorm was outside, waiting for me. The clouds were grey. “Come on! We have to get going!!” She said. I nodded and got up, following my mother.

Mom brought us to the river. Rain was pouring. She picked up Cookie. “Guys, stay here until I come get you.” Mom snarled, walking into the river, her grip tight onto Cookie so she wouldn’t drop and drown. She placed Cookie onto a ledge. Snowstorm and Stormie began to swim towards her. “Guys! She said to stay here!” I silently hissed. I follow them. She picked up me and sat me on the ledge near Cookie. Stormie swam up to the shore. “Where is Snowstorm..” Mom hissed, angry. “Drowning.” Cookie pointed to the white cub, trying to swim towards us. Mom pounced into the river and picked up Snowstorm. The tiny cub was panting. “Never disobey me! Snowstorm could have been lost forever!” She hissed. We nodded. “Now let’s get going.”

Chapter 2
Strong Creatures Of Passion

The sky was a dark dusk. Puddles had formed after the recent storm. I follow mom into the swamp. “There are swans here, so be careful.” Mom said, taking us up a cliff. She brought us to a large spot. Hiiissss… Something was in the water. “Get in the tall grass and hide!” she hissed. Mom sprang into action and bit the swan’s neck. She wrestled until they both sank into the water. “Mom!!” Cookie yowled, dipping her paw in the lake, hoping mom would grab on. A dead swan flew to the rocks behind us. Along with it, mom crawled onto shore, breathing heavily for air. We all ran up to greet her, thinking she might have been gone forever.

As we hiked up the hill, fog began to spew everywhere as we got higher up. “Mom, where are we even going?” Snowstorm meowed. She sighed and stopped. “To a special and safe place. It has a large food source, fresh water, and a den with moss that is so comfy, you’ll never want to leave.” She explained. “How much you want to bet that the rabbits are twice as bigger!” Stormie smiled. “And the water is twice as colder and more refreshing!!” Cookie giggled. She paused at the top of the mountain. “We’ll rest here for tonight.” She said, curling up into the abandon den. Snowstorm, Cookie, Stormie, and I went to sleep near mom. I look at the sky. A star seemed to whisper to me. I heard whispering. All I understood was “Good luck” and “Unnecessary Death” though. Who was it going to be? Stormie? Mom?

Chapter 3

Chapter 3
Rocky Slopes

I woke up to see Snowstorm, sitting on a rock. I get up, leaving Mom, Cookie, and Stormie in the den. “W-whats wrong?” I asked. Snowstorm shot a look of dissapointment. “Why would you, Cookie, and Stormie sacrafice me like that. I am your BROTHER. And you decide to just throw me under the bus like that? I am your blood! How could you do that??” He hissed, stepping closer. “I was trying to stop them! It was all Stormie’s idea!” I growled back. “Whoever’s idea it was, you were close enough tome so I could hear!” He snarled. “Look, all that matters is that we are all okay. If we stay close and don’t leave each other, we’ll be okay when we get there, too.” I said nuzzling him. He nodded and we trotted back to the den, knowing we had a big day tomorrow. Even though I said it was okay, I thought to myself: Was everything really

I wake up to see breakfast. A rabbit. I smiled and ate my share, leaving nothing but bones. My siblings had already ate. We began to travel again. Mom looked a little cautious. “I smell bear, stay quiet.” She said. I nodded and began to crawl forward.

We got higher and higher until the cliff is too steep. “I can’t go forward.” Mom sighed. She slipped and her paws were on the cliff’s edge. “Mom!!” I meowed, trying to pull her up. “Don’t worry! Just follow the worn path of past lynx!” She hissed. She lifted her paw and placed it farther up. “I love you all. Snowstorm, please be the big brother I expect you to be. To watch over your sisters and keep them safe.” She said. Snowstorm wiped his tears and nodded. “Summer. You shine brighter than the sun itself. I want you to guide them all with Snowstorm.” She said. Mom looked over to Cookie and Stormie. “Cookie, you are the sweetest of us all, I want you to make sure everyone turnes out to be positive and not negative.” She said. “And Stormie, you are the swiftest. I want you to always stop the forces they can’t. I love you all.” Mom whimpered, her paws slipping. I soon ended up with tears in my eyes, watching Mom fall to the rocks into a spiky death.

Chapter 4

Chapter 4:
Flames And Ashes

I looked at Stormie, then to Snowstorm, who was leading us. “W-what now?” I meow, more jittery than the crickets at night. “We follow the path.” Snowstorm replied. The white cat picked up the pace, heading up the steep cliff until it just stopped. “I-it’s okay. Here, i’ll help you all up.” Snowstorm let Cookie onto his back and placed her onto the high ledge. “You next, Stormie!” He said. Stormie nodded and climbed onto her brother, who soon boosted her onto the ledge with Cookie. “Now you Summer!” He smiled. I climbed onto his back and hopped onto the ledge, then I pulled him up with us. “Alright, we just have to get to the river. There should be something we can use as a raft. But first, we should get fresh food and water. Then, we should set sail.” Snowstorm explained. “Okay, Summer and Stormie, you find food. Cookie, make a box or something for water. I’ll make sure the log doesn’t flow away.” Snowstorm trotted off and pulled the hollow log more onto land. “Come on, Stormie!” I say, dashing off to find food.

We enter the forest, looking for food. “Look! A mouse!” Stormie points. I crawl forward and pounced onto the mouse. “Gocha!” I hissed, holding the tiny creature in my paw. “Your turn! Meet you at the log!” I smiled, dashing off. I paused to see something horrific. The nightmare lit up the branches and trees. I ran to Stormie, who was hunting a rabbit. She got the rabbit. I hissed,“Hurry! We need to go! There is a fire!”

Chapter 5

Chapter 5 : Flames and Ashes Part 2

Stormie hurried through the broken branches of ash, her fur tearing through the thorns. I sprinted with her, trying to avoid the hot peices of wood on the ashy ground. We met Snowstorm and Cookie at the log. “Get this boat on the water, were trying to escape a fire!” Stormie snarled. Snowstorm nodded. We pounced onto the boat. Snowstorm lifted his paws up and shoved the log into the river, then jumped on with us. Behind, he glared at the forest behind, which was blazing with fire. He glanced over at us. “Are you all okay?” he mewed. We all nodded. I layed down, the bark of the log brushing my stomach as I lay my paw in the water. The current brushed against my orange fur. Down. Down the river we went.

letting you all know, the cubs are floating down Lamar River, which leads through Yellow Stone National Park. This is why they see wolves.

I glance downstream. What was that? It was something bad.. it bared it’s teeth, it’s amber eyes flaring and.. and.. IT JUMPED! As it got closer, it howled. Soon, Snowstorm was padding towards the other side. But that was a bad choice. He yowled,
“WOLVES!”

Chapter 6

Cookie flails around. “We’re gonna be puppy chow!!” she wails. Snowstorm had a serious face. I look on each side. An entire wolf pack was chasing us, and we were just cubs and couldn’t stop them. “Paddle, now!” Snowstorm growls. I dipped my paw in the water, and paddled. Stormie was crying out. “Mama!” she squeals in horror. “Mom isn’t here, now paddle, Stormie!” I called. She still looked freaked out, but paddled faster. The current got rougher and rougher, until the wolves were out of sight. Cookie gave a sigh of relief. “I think they’re gone.” Cookie says, much more calm.

Stormie and Cookie lay on one half of the log, sleeping. “Sunny, look!” Snowstorm points to a sign. “We’re in Montana!.. what’s Montana?” he looks at me. I shrug, because I don’t know. “Didn’t mom say we were suppose to travel down the Lamar River into Slough creek… because that’s where Canada is?” I asked. Snowstorm looks up at the sign again. “Oh it does say this is Slough Creek! We’re getting closer!” He cheers.

Chapter 7

They climbed onto land. “Upper Slough Creek” I read. “Stormie, Cookie, come on, we’re getting closer!” Snowstorm smiles, and wagged his bobbed tail. I looked forward into the rough, mountainous terrain. “Okay, we gotta follow this creek until… it stops, then we just gotta keep moving forward. We’re so close!” He proudly purrs. Stormie sleepily rubs her eyes. “Ugh.. we’re not in Canada yet?? But we’ve been traveling forever!!” Cookie cries. “Don’t worry. Just a few hundred more miles won’t kill ya, would it?” I said. Stormie falls to the ground, and weeps, too. “Guys, we can’t keep waiting by the shore. we have to keep moving.” Snowstorm explained. Stormie growls, gets up, and starts walking up the creek. Out of nowhere, a screech came from above. “HAWK!!” Snowstorm grips Cookie’s scruff, and tries to drag her. “Into that hole! quick!” He whimpers. Stormie and I pile into the hole quickly, and then came Cookie. “Where’s Snowstorm!?”

Chapter 8

I launched myself out and onto the hawk. I bit it’s throat, and my brother, Snowstorm, dropped. The hawk flew away, and I was dropped, too. “Are you okay?” she asked. “Yes.. i’m fine. Come on, let’s keep going.”

“Look! Look! It’s another creek!” Cookie purrs happily. Stormie presses her head on Snowstorm. “We’re so close.. we can make it..!” she caught up to Cookie. “Boulder river..” Snowstorm read on a sign. “What is that?” Stormie looks over at a road. “..It looks like a path..a very… unnatural.. path.” Snowstorm explained. Stormie nodded. “But.. are those the monsters mom use to tell us about?” Cookie pointed to the cars. I nodded. “Seems accurate.”

Hours later, another creek started to incline with the one we were following. Then another. And another. Then two more. “Should there be this many creeks?” Stormie asked. “It’s called a Delta, and we need to cross it.” Snowstorm hopped into the water, and paddled. “Come on.” I followed him, then Cookie, then lastly, Stormie. We all safely got onto land, and kept walking.

Chapter 9

“Guys? The.. the creek is getting bigger.” Cookie whimpers. “That just means we’re getting closer” Stormie says. “We’re getting to a human place, everyone stay quiet or they’ll tranquilize you.” Snowstorm explained. I looked over at the bustling shops. “What are they doing?” Stormie asked. nobody answered.

The river got thinner and thinner until it collided into Yellowstone River. “Okay.. we gotta swim across.” Snowstorm inhaled and jumped in. He was almost dragged by the current, but he was too strong to be dragged away. Cookie jumped in, too. Then Stormie. Then I did. I helped Cookie across, and soon, we all made it.

“Come on. We can make it. It’s not too far away now!”

~NOTE~

The cubs are half grown now, Snowstorm, (Bova) is the largest of them all and Cookie (Solda) is the smallest. They are in Montana at the moment, as well.

Chapter 10

After a walk through another delta, we had almost reached Canada. “So, Cookie, what are you gonna do when we get there?” Stormie smiled. “I’m gonna catch the most rabbits a Lynx can catch!! What about you?” Cookie asked. “Guys, we can’t stick together forever. We have to find our own families, you know that, right?” Snowstorm looks behind him. “We can’t? But.. but I love you guys..” Cookie whimpers. Stormie rubs against her sister. “You’re gonna be a great mom someday, don’t worry.” She tried to make her feel better. “But I wanna be with you! Not some tom who just wants to have cubs and bounce!” She cried. I thought about what Cookie said. “Just think about now, okay? We’re together now.” I said. “Look!! Another sign! Beaver Creek, Montana.” Stormie read. “We’re still in Montana??” Cookie groans. “Look, we need to stay positive. Just keep following that creek.”

“Milk river.” Snowstorm says. “How many rivers do we have to cross??” Stormie groans. “Nobody said going to Canada would be easy.” I told her. “All we gotta do is cross these marshlands, and we’ll be there!” Snowstorm says happily. Cookie nodded. “Yeah.. we’ll be there..”
Snowstorm stretches. “How about some rest?”

“Are you okay?” I asked Cookie, laying down. “It’s just.. This whole adventure was to get to Canada and start a new life. But.. I bonded with you guys so much and.. I’m not ready to go. I love you guys. You are my family.” Cookie whimpers. I press my head against her. “Cookie, just don’t think about it. When it is time, we’ll all be confident, and strong..” I tried to comfort her. Cookie lays down, and smiles. “Alright… goodnight, I love you.”

Chapter 11

We were moving along the marshlands. “We’re so close… I can feel the snow!!” Cookie purrs. I felt a sharp pain in my leg. Before I knew it, Cookie, Snowstorm, and Stormie were on the grass. Tranquilizer darts! Humans!

I woke up to bars. Cold hard bars in the back of the truck. Snowstorm was awake, trying to gnaw through the bars. “What happened!? Where are we going!?” I asked. “Wait… we’re going towards Canada! We’re saved!!” Snowstorm stopped gnawing.

The truck pulled to a stop, and the cages we were in were set onto the grass. The people ran off without opening them. I growled. “All this time, and we are stuck in cages??” Cookie was now awake, and angry. Suddenly, the doors opened. There was a time limit, because they thought we were unsafe apparently. “Where.. where are we?” Stormie asked. “…Banff national park of Canada.” Snowstorm saw a sign. “We.. did it?? We made it to Canada??” I was too surprised for words. “Yes. We’re in Canada! We made it!” Cookie cheers. “Wait.. does this mean.. goodbye?” Stormie asked, tears in her eyes. Snowstorm pressed his face against her. “..Unfortunately, we can’t travel as a band of cubs anymore. Because we’re adult lynx now. We know how to hunt, climb, fight and everything a Lynx can do.” He says, ears pinned. Cookie looks to the ground, and lays her head on me. “..Good luck then, everyone.” Snowstorm gave a Sad purr, and trudged away. “Good luck, Snowstorm, Cookie, and Sunny” Stormie trudged away, too. “But.. I don’t want to leave you guys..” Cookie whimpered. Tears in my eyes, I lay my head on top of hers. “Don’t worry. We might meet up while with our families. I.. I love you.” I nuzzled her. She curled up. “Good luck, Cookie.” I walked away.

Chapter 12 (Autumn)

Kova = Sunny’s Black Cub
Luna = Sunny’s White Cub
Jay = Sunny’s Brown Cub
Joslyn = Cookie’s Brown Cub

I stepped into the clearing. She remembered it so well. It was like it was forever ago since she has been there. “Mum, why are we here?” Kova asks. “To see an Aunt of yours. I promised her we’d be back here.” I explained with a soft lick. Suddenly a small brown cub hopped out of the bushes with it’s mother following. “Cookie?” She raised her bobbed tail. The smaller lynx perked up. “Sunny! You followed the promise!”

Cookie pinned me and smiled. “I thought you wouldn’t…”
“I did, I promised and a lynx’s promise is sacred.”
The cubs were playing with each other.
“Sunny..?” she got off her me. “I was going to ask, since..well.. your mate died and mine left… why don’t we just become a family of our own.? We’d be warmer in the winter and we’d get twice the amount of food.”
“..I like it.. a family of our own.” I smiled. “Come on, i’ll show you the amazing den I found!” Cookie raised her tail again. “So, what do you think happened to Stormie and Snowstorm?” I curiously asked. “Stormie said she always wanted to be an explorer instead of having cubs. Maybe she’s out scaling the mountains of Canada..Oh and, hey Sunny?”
“Yeah?”
“..Thank you.”
