Intuitive and Patriotic Abilities
One way to accelerate research is by playing with a custom faction with the Intuitive Ability, which starts with 250 free Research points as of version 1.02. It was 500 points before, which apparently was considered too much. Together with the reduced rush cost multiplier, it’s now more important to rush build the Research Laboratory improvement to get a head start on research. It now costs 300 credits instead of 450 to rush build a Research Laboratory.
There’s a large empire Approval penalty which makes it hard to build a large empire. Creating a custom faction with the Patriotic Ability overcomes this difficulty.
Quickly build a large warship which can take out enemy shipyards and starbases.
