FFIX steam speed up tricks… Chocobo forest game and more

Overview

Chocobo digging made easy by use of the F1 key added in the steam version of FFIX.

The Deets

It was requested I repost this in the guides section from general discussion. A few minor edits from the original, but otherwise the same. Onward!

I’ve played through the game legit on PS1, but now as an adult I don’t have as much time so the F-key options are really useful for me.

One incredibly useful trick is using F1 (game speed up) while playing the Chocobo digging game in the Chocobo Forests. F1 makes everything run faster… but not the game clock! At least not the mini-game clocks; actual game clock I haven’t tested, but I suspect it does and would help with Excalibur II?

So if you’re like me and value time more than trying to keep a similar experience to the PS1, press F1 and let the Chocographs rake in. Getting 8 treasures per round is super easy which makes Mene the Moogle stop the game and give you extra points just to quit. I’m regularly getting 200 points per round in the very first forest and the beak level is insane for this early on (lvl 54 and I’m not even past the first forest).

This speed up trick also works on the the hunting mini-game in Lindblum, though it’s not really necessary unless you are going for Zidane’s gil (the coral ring seems to make more sense).

I’ve forgotten what other timed games there are to come, but I’ll try to remember to edit this with any other ones it might help with.

Enjoy!
