Fishing Planet – Quick Reference (OUTDATED)

Overview

The purpose of this guide is to provide a quick reference regarding known and proven ways of obtaining various fish and dealing with miscellaneous problems. I do not claim that the strategies listed here are the most effective or the only ways to catch any given fish. As more information comes to light, this guide should be continuously updated and refined.UPDATE: (10/11/2016)I realise parts of this guide may be outdated. To be honest, I don’t fish that often anymore, so updates may be very infrequent. Known sections that may have unreliable data have been marked as such. If anyone finds other information here that doesn’t seem to be working, please let me know in the comments. I’d also appreciate it if fellow anglers would share their fishing methods to help keep this guide up-to-date, as maintaining the accuracy and comprehensiveness of a guide this size is no small task. Still, I’m confident that the vast majority of the information presented here should be useful and accurate, until such a time when major changes are made to Fishing Planet (i.e. the removal of ‘hotspots’) that render this guide completely and utterly obsolete. In that case, this guide will simply serve as a trip down memory lane and will be removed or renamed.Thank you for reading, and happy fishing.

Frequently Asked Questions & Miscellaneous Tips

Question: How do I cast further out?

By default, the fishing rod has a very limited casting distance, and you’ll only be able to throw the line out a few metres.

Press the F11 key. This will prepare the rod for long-range casting.

Now you have two options. Pressing the right mouse button will allow you to precisely aim at where you wish to cast. You can adjust your aim left and right, as well as further away from or closer to where you’re standing. Notice the long bar to the right of the screen and the white area inside it. This white area will automatically adjust itself depending on how far you’re aiming to throw your line. In order to make a successful cast while in this mode, you must cast your line when the power bar is within the designated area. Click the left mouse button to begin charging the power bar. Click once more to release.

The other option once you’ve pressed F11 is to simply point in the general direction of where you wish to cast, and then hold down the left mouse button to determine how far the line is thrown.

Release the left mouse button to throw out your line. The more the power bar to the right is filled when the button is released, the further the cast.

Miscellaneous:

– I’ve been told that you should use gold slop/casting spoons on cloudy days and silver slop/casting spoons on sunny days. This seems to be a popular tactic, though I’ve heard someone say that they thought it didn’t really matter.

– Another effective technique to use when luring bass is to hold the rod up (hold the right mouse button) and reel in the lure slowly on the slowest speed. You can also pause between movements, though I’ve been told this isn’t necessary. This was done using a bass jig.

How to deal with snags

To release a snag, follow these steps:
1. Make sure there is no tension on the line. Reel line out if you have to.
2. Set line drag to maximum.
3. Reel line in. Click once when you feel that turning the reel again will pull the line tight.
4. The snag should now be released.
5. Reel line all the way back in and resume fishing.

– Sometimes, quickly reeling line out as soon as you hit a snag will free the tackle.

– You can also free your tackle by slowly pulling the line until there is moderate-high tension, then tapping the right-mouse button to lift the rod up.

– If your line and reel are strong enough, you could get away with simply continuing to reel in the tackle normally, dislodging the snag through brute force.

– After dislodging numerous snags, I have yet to break a single reel.

Mudwater River – Missouri

Pumpkinseed:

Maximum observed weight: 0.6 kg
Value per fish: 1-? silver
Location: Last Songs of Summer
Hook: #10; #8; #6
Bait: Bread, Maggots, Wax Worms
Fishing technique: Float fishing. Sit and wait for a bite. Line leader should be about 50 cm.

Cast close to the shore around here. You’ll also get Bluegill and various other panfish here.

Bluegill:

Maximum observed weight: 1.1 kg
Value per fish: 1-8 silver, ? gold
Location: Last Songs of Summer
Hook: #10; #8; #6; #4; #2/0; #3/0; Slop Spoon 7 g, #2 (Gold, Silver); Casting Spoon 9 g, #1 (Gold, Silver)
Bait: Bread, Marshmallows, Maggots, Wax Worms, Crickets
Fishing technique: Twitch the lure by striking repeatedly while reeling in a spoon, or sit and wait if float fishing. Line leader should be about 50 cm.

Cast to the same location as you would to catch Pumpkinseed.
You can also cast to around the middle of the river, aiming directly towards the boat, and twitch a slop or casting spoon for a shot at Trophy Bluegill.

You might also get them while fishing near the sunken log to the right with a #1 hook casting spoon:

Trophy White Crappie:

Maximum observed weight: 0.6 kg
Value per fish: 8-9 silver
Location: Last Songs of Summer
Hook: Slop Spoon 7 g, #2 (Gold); Casting Spoon 9 g, #1 (Silver)
Fishing technique: Twitch the lure by striking repeatedly while reeling in, or use Stop&Go for casting spoons.

Cast to around this location. You can also catch largemouth bass here.
(You can also aim directly at the green boat, casting to about around the middle of the river.)

Channel Catfish:

Maximum observed weight: 5.3 kg
Value per fish: 3-32 silver
Location: Last Songs of Summer
Hook: #6; #1/0; #2/0; #3/0
Bait: Cheese, Corn, Pet Food, Crickets, Small Cutbait, Medium Cutbait, Large Cutbait, Blood
Fishing technique: Let the bait sit and wait for a bite. Maintain minimum line slack for an optimal strike. Catfish have been hooked with the line leader at a setting of 50 cm, 220 cm, and 250 cm.

Note:
I’ve been told that the best time to fish for catfish is around 3-5PM on sunny days, and that catfish are hard to catch on cloudy days or in the morning.

Cast to around this location (or anywhere that’s deep). You can even just throw the bobber out about 10-25 m towards the green boat.

Largemouth Bass:

Maximum observed weight: 2.4 kg
Value per fish: 4-33 silver
Location: Last Songs of Summer
Hook: Slop Spoon 7 g, #2 (Gold); Casting Spoon 9 g, #1 (Silver); #1/0; Spinner 4 g, #1/0 (Gold, Silver); JigHead 5 g, #1/0; Shad 5 cm (Pearl); Medium Spoon 7 g, #1/0 (Lemon Tiger, Red Tiger); Casting Spoon 7 g, #1/0 (Silver, Gold); Bass Jig 4 g, #1/0 (Watermelon); JigHead 9 g, #2/0; Grub 7 cm (Red); Casting Spoon 14 g #2/0 (Silver, Gold); Bass Jig 5 g, #2/0 (White); #3/0; Casting Spoon 21 g, #3/0 (Silver, Gold, Yellow with Red Rhombi, Red and White); Bass Jig 4 g, #3/0 (Watermelon); Bass Jig 9 g, #3/0 (Green Salad White)
Bait: Crickets, Shiners
Fishing technique: Reel in for 1-3 spins, pause for 1 second, then reel in for 1-3 spins again, repeating this cycle until you’ve reeled the lure out of the water. This is called the Stop&Go retrieve. Interval may vary depending on the speed of the reel and the weight of the lure.

Use the Stop&Go retrieve technique for casting spoons, medium spoons, and bass jigs, and use the Twitching retrieve technique for slop spoons. You can also try float fishing with the line leader at 50 cm.
(Note: I’ve been told that bass jigs should be twitched along the bottom.)

No matter which technique you use (‘Twitching’ or ‘Stop & Go’), you should aim to keep the lure about halfway between the surface and the bottom. Three dots is optimal.

Cast to around this location, aiming to get the lure to pass by the reeds to the left.

Another good spot is here:

Chain Pickerel:

Maximum observed weight: 1.8 kg
Value per fish: 5-26 silver
Location: Last Songs of Summer, Pike Challenge
Hook: Casting Spoon 9 g, #1 (Silver, Gold); Medium Spoon 7 g, #1/0 (Lemon Tiger, Red Tiger); Casting Spoon 7 g, #1/0 (Silver, Gold); JigHead 9 g #2/0; Worm 5 cm (Pearl); Casting Spoon 14 g, #2/0 (Silver, Gold); Casting Spoon 21 g, #3/0 (Red and White)

A simple Straight retrieve also works well. You can also try twitching casting spoons.

Last Songs of Summer – Twitching a casting spoon down the middle of the river to the left can result in strikes from Chain Pickerel.

Pike Challenge – Cast in this direction, aiming to make the lure pass in front of the reeds to the left when you’re reeling it back in. Keep the bobber around the middle to lower section of the water.

Pike Challenge- Sometimes, you might get the odd Trophy White Crappie as well.

A #2/0 hook can catch trophy-sized Chain Pickerel in addition to the regular ones.

Grass Pickerel:

Maximum observed weight: 0.6 kg
Value per fish: 3-9 silver
Location: Last Songs of Summer
Hook: Casting Spoon 9 g, #1 (Silver); JigHead 5 g, #1/0; Shad 5 cm (Pearl); Casting Spoon 7 g, #1/0 (Silver); Casting Spoon 14 g, #2/0 (Silver)
Fishing technique: Stop&Go, Twitching.

This fish only seems to appear on sunny days. Cast to the far right, beyond and slightly to the left of the sunken log. A #1/0 hook can catch trophy-sized Grass Pickerel in addition to the regular ones, but I suggest using a #2/0 hook instead.

Mudwater River – Missouri (Page 2)

Bowfin: (Unreliable data – results may not be efficient/effective)

Maximum observed weight: 4.2 kg
Value per fish: 8-9 silver
Location: Last Songs of Summer

Bait: Small Cutbait, Medium Cutbait
Fishing technique: Stop&Go. Jigging lures along the bottom. Float fishing. Line leader at 220-250 cm.

Bowfin can be caught in the same areas that Largemouth Bass are generally found. Fishing techniques that are effective on Largemouth Bass are also effective on Bowfin. Casting lures along the shore and making them pass by reeds, or even looking to the left and casting far into the middle of the river can result in bites from Bowfin.

You might also hook Bowfin while angling for Catfish. Throw your bait towards the middle of the river or the green boat at a distance of about 15 m.

Black Bullhead:

Maximum observed weight: 1.7 kg
Value per fish: 2-6 silver
Location: Last Songs of Summer

Bait: Peas, Medium Cutbait, Blood
Fishing technique: Float fishing. These fish have been caught with line leaders at 50 cm and 220 cm.

Black Bullhead are caught in the same way as Channel Catfish. Throw your bait about 15 m out towards the middle of the river. Black Bullhead do not require a deep line leader to be hooked.

Blacktail Shiner:

Maximum observed weight: 0.2 kg
Value per fish: 2 silver
Location: Last Songs of Summer
Hook: #6; #4
Bait: Bread, Maggots

Value per fish: 56-65 silver
Location: Last Songs of Summer
Hook: #3/0
Bait: Shiners
Fishing technique: Float fishing. Line leader at 50 cm.

Cast near the two boats on the other side. I’ve seen people say that they cast to the left of the green boat, but I’ve always had activity when the bobber drifts near the yellow boat.

Reel the lure in so it leaves the floor of the lake, then let it settle again, before reeling in again in such a way that it bounces up and down. Pause every two bounces or so and lift the rod up, then repeat.

You can also try float fishing. Just throw your bait in the same spot as you’d cast a lure and then wait.

Cutthroat Trout:

Everglades – Florida (Infinity Tunnels)

Largemouth Bass:

Maximum observed weight: 5.4 kg
Value per fish: 15-34 silver, 10 gold
Location: Infinity Tunnels
Hook: Spinner 14 g, #3/0 (Rainbow, Beetle); Casting Spoon 21 g, #3/0 (Red and White); Crankbait 1 m, #3/0 (Crawfish); Bass Jig 9 g, #3/0 (Green Salad White); Bass Jig 28 g, #4/0 (Orange Brown Pepper); JigHead 14 g, #4/0; Shad 10 cm (Black)
Fishing technique:
Bass Jig – Jigging/bouncing the lure along the bottom. After casting, let the lure settle to the bottom. Reel in at whatever speed necessary so the lure lifts off the ground, then let it drop before reeling in again. You can mix this with pauses and shuffling the jig along the bottom without having it lift off the ground. An erratic pattern seems to be quite effective at inducing strikes.

Casting Spoon – Stop&Go. Reel in the lure and pause before reeling in again. Three dots is optimal. It is okay to allow the lure to hit the bottom so long as it doesn’t sit there for more than a brief moment, unless you are trying to upgrade the pattern from one dot to two or three.

Crankbait – A straight retrieve at minimum speed is effective at inducing strikes, but pausing every now and then before continuing to reel in the lure at minimum speed can also work.

Spinner – Stop&Go or bouncing along the bottom can be effective. Bass jigs and casting spoons seem more effective when used with the appropriate technique, however.

The first channel on the left has Largemouth Bass, though I don’t recommend fishing here for Largemouth Bass in general.

I recommend fishing in the second channel from the left. All sorts of lures can be effective here. I recommend bass jigs. Aim towards the right side of the channel, but not so far right that you snag on the reeds.

You can also catch Largemouth Bass in the channel slightly to the left of straight ahead of the dock (or the third channel from the far left).

Unique Largemouth Bass can be found 50-60 m out, around here:

Specific setup/strategy:
JigWinner 270, Prima3500, 0.28 mm (4.5 kg test) fluoro, JigHead 14 g, #4/0, Shad 10 cm (Black).
Allow the lure to settle to the bottom. Reel in twice at speed 3, pause, then reel in twice again. Reel the lure back in once you reach about 40 m (arbitrary untested value).

Unique catch times (partly cloudy day): 18:25

Butterfly Peacock Bass:

Maximum observed weight: 2.7 kg
Value per fish: 20-54 silver
Location: Infinity Tunnels
Hook: #3/0; #4/0; #5/0; Crankbait 3.5 m, #2/0 (Rainbow, Perch, Crawfish); Spinner 14 g, #3/0 (Rainbow); Casting Spoon 21 g, #3/0 (Red and White); JigHead 14 g, #3/0; Shad 10 cm (Black); Crankbait 1 m, #3/0 (Crawfish); Crankbait 5 m, #3/0 (Perch, Crawfish, Rainbow); Bass Jig 9 g, #3/0 (Green Salad White); Bass Jig 28 g, #4/0 (Orange Brown Pepper); Crankbait 2 m, #5/0 (Lemon, Smoky); Crankbait 2.5 m, #5/0 (White and Blue, Rainbow)
Bait: Shrimp, Shiners

Fishing technique:
Bass Jig – Jigging/bouncing the lure along the bottom. After casting, let the lure settle to the bottom. Reel in at whatever speed necessary so the lure lifts off the ground, then let it drop before reeling in again. You can mix this with pauses and shuffling the jig along the bottom without having it lift off the ground. An erratic pattern seems to be quite effective at inducing strikes.

The second channel from the left is great for hunting Butterfly Peacock Bass. Cast as far left as you can without your lure bobbing heavily in the water or snagging. There is a hard snag at around 29 m. If you snag, just keep shifting your aim slightly to the right until you can retrieve your lure all the way without snagging. You can also reel at maximum speed in the 30-28 m range to avoid snagging. A crankbait on a straight retrieve at minimum speed often results in strikes in the 29-16 m range.

Fishing a crankbait down the middle channel can also be very effective. Snags are also a lot less likely to occur here compared to the previous channel. I suggest you aim here before working the crank back on a straight retrieve at minimum speed.

You can also cast down the wide channel to the far right. The water here seems to be quite shallow.

Float fishing also works with a line leader of 50 cm. Cast around the lily pads roughly straight ahead from the dock. You can cast right into the middle of them, or over to the left side.

Channel Catfish:

Maximum observed weight: 4.3 kg
Value per fish: 10-26 silver
Location: Infinity Tunnels

Bait: Pet Food, Peas, Small Cutbait, Medium Cutbait, Large Cutbait, Blood, Leeches
Fishing technique: Float fishing. Line leader at 220 cm (or as deep as it can go without causing the bobber to sit lopsided.)

Catfish can generally be caught anywhere that’s deep. Cast into the deep water away from reeds, anywhere from 10-25 m out.

I’ve hooked catfish this far out, but I recommend keeping the distance somewhere between the 10-15 m range to keep fights as short as possible.

Brown Bullhead:

Maximum observed weight: 0.7 kg
Value per fish: 2-3 silver

Smallmouth Bass are what I would consider to be a nuisance fish in California. They often attack any lure that you use to attract Steelhead, Chinook Salmon, and Striped Bass.

You will find them pretty much everywhere while trying to catch Steelhead, Chinook Salmon, and Striped Bass.

Steelhead:

Maximum observed weight: 8.99 kg
Value per fish: 33-90 silver
Location: Below the Cryton Dam
Hook: #3/0; #4/0; Narrow Spoon 7 g, #1/0 (Black Gloss); Medium Spoon 7 g, #1/0 (Lemon Tiger); Crankbait 3.5 m, #2/0 (Rainbow, Perch, Crawfish); Crankbait 1 m, #3/0 (Crawfish); Crankbait 5 m, #3/0 (Rainbow, Perch); Medium Spoon 14 g, #3/0 (Lemon Tiger); JigHead 48 g, #4/0; Shad 10 cm (Grass Green); Crankbait 2.5 m, #4/0 (Lemon); Crankbait 3.5 m, #4/0 (Blue and White); Crankbait 5 m, #4/0 (Rainbow)
Bait: Shrimp, Shiners
Fishing technique: Bouncing lures along the bottom (via reeling) or using them in a Twitch retrieve can induce strikes. A Straight or Stop&Go retrieve can be effective when using crankbaits. Float fishing (line leader at 50 or 200 cm) also works.

Below the Cryton Dam – Walk to the last rock then turn to the left. Cast about 26 m out, past these rocks.

Throwing crankbaits and lures far out towards the green shed in the distance can also result in strikes from Steelhead, though you’ll also get Chinook Salmon and Striped Bass here.

If float fishing, just throw your bait where you’d normally cast lures. This Steelhead was hooked about 19 m out.

Chinook Salmon:

Maximum observed weight: 17.76 kg

Fishing technique: Bouncing lures along the bottom (via reeling) or using them in a Twitch retrieve can induce strikes. A Straight or Stop&Go retrieve can be effective when using crankbaits. Float fishing (line leader at 50 or 200 cm) also works.
Bait: Shiners

Below the Cryton Dam – Walk to the last rock then look slightly to the right. Cast about 36 m out towards these reeds and rocks. You can also catch Striped Bass here.

You can also turn slightly to the left and cast about 36 m out past this set of rocks towards (but not into) the vegetation in the distance.

Throwing crankbaits and lures far out towards the green shed in the distance can also result in strikes from Chinook Salmon, though you’ll also get Steelhead and Striped Bass here.

If float fishing, throw your bait about 17 m out past these rocks.

Trophy Chinook Salmon can be caught from 20:00 to 21:00 on partly cloudy days and 7:00 to 8:00 on sunny days.

Fishing technique: Bouncing spoons/spinners along the bottom as well as straight retrieves with deep crankbaits are effective. After casting, let the lure settle to the bottom. Reel in once at speed 2 or 3 so the lure lifts off the ground, then let it drop before reeling in again. If fishing a crankbait, simply reel in continuously, allowing it to dive deep.

Stand on the rectangular platform near the hut. Look towards the house in the top-right corner and throw your line out about 40-30 m.

Yellow Perch:

Maximum observed weight: 1.0 kg

Reel in once at speed 2 or 3 so the lure lifts off the ground, then let it drop before reeling in again. If fishing a crankbait, simply reel in continuously, allowing it to dive deep.

Stand on the rectangular platform near the hut. Look to the left. Cast anywhere from near the edge of the cliff to towards the mountain top in the distance.

Be prepared to deal with extremely strong resistance from these fish.

Northern Pike:

Location: Fisherman’s Hut
Hook: Spinner 14 g, #3/0 (Rainbow); Medium Spoon 14 g, #3/0 (Lemon Tiger)
Fishing technique: Bouncing the lure along the bottom. After casting, let the lure settle to the bottom. Reel in once at speed 2 or 3 so the lure lifts off the ground, then let it drop before reeling in again.

Walk down the path towards the hut until you arrive at these benches:

Cast your lure right into the top-right corner of the lake.

You can also catch Yellow Perch here.

Burbot:

Maximum observed weight: 4.7 kg

Bait: Cheese, Medium Cutbait
Fishing technique: Float fishing. Sit and wait for a bite. Burbot have been caught with the line leader set to 180 cm, but I’ve heard that 150 cm works as well. Longer line leaders may also be worth experimenting with. These fish can also be caught with deep crankbaits trolled near the shore.

Stand on the rectangular platform near the hut. Look to the left and cast about 15 m out near the shore.

You might catch Burbot by accident while angling for Lake Trout from the platform with deep crankbaits.

Past Event Fish: Christmas & St.Patrick’s Day

These fish are currently unobtainable. They are noted purely for interest and as a way of viewing some past history.

Furry Trout:

Maximum observed weight: 5.5 kg
Value per fish: 10-31 silver, ? gold
Location: Santa’s Hut (White Moose Lake – Alberta)
Hook: Spinner 4 g, #1/0 (Rainbow); Medium Spoon 14 g, #3/0 (Lemon Tiger); Spinner 14 g, #3/0 (Rainbow)
Fishing technique: Various. This fish doesn’t seem to favour any one particular fishing technique, and appears more closely connected to the release of fireworks.

Release fireworks or wait for another player to do it. The more fireworks are released in a short amount of time, the greater the chances for Furry Trout, and the greater the size of the fish.

Immediately cast anywhere into the water and use any fishing technique. Straight, Stop&Go, Lift&Drop, and Twitching techniques have all been successful.

Description:
Furry Trout (Oncorhynchus Furrycus) this legendary fish belongs to the Trout family and is believed to be a nonexistent hoax by most anglers. Legend has it, that the Furry Trout is more ferocious than the Himalayan Yeti, more ruthless than the Loch Ness Monster! And yet…the white flurry floof is actually cute as hell! Similar in size and appearance to its direct relative, the Rainbow Trout, Furry Trout is the result of evolutionary metamorphosis. The poor thing had to grow thick fluffy fur in order to keep itself warm and survive in the severe cold waters of its harsh northern environment. Aww…

The Furry Trout was obtainable in Alberta as the event fish for the Christmas 2015 event. During this time, players could travel to White Moose Lake for free, and the area was open to all, regardless of their account level.

Leprechaun Fish:

Maximum observed weight: 9.77 kg
Value per fish: 2-3 gold
Location: Catfish Heaven (Mudwater River – Missouri)
Hook: #2/0; #3/0; #4/0
Bait: Drunken Worms, Red Worms, Wax Worms
Fishing technique: Float fishing. Line leader at 50 cm.

From Pike Challenge, turn around and follow the path. Pay attention to the right side of the trail as you walk along it. Find a pot of gold near a fork in the trail.
Drunken Worms are no longer obtainable.

Cast about 8-10 m out from the shore while standing between the two boats. You can cast to the right over in front of the green boat, then let the bobber drift to the left.

A Fenix 390 equipped with 5.5 kg fluoro is quite capable of bringing these fish in.

Description:
Leprechaun FIsh (Leprechaunus Ichtiandrus) – a small fish, shamrock green in color that is by some believed to be a myth. But every year on St. Patrick’s Day there are reports of a very fishy anomaly. Legend has it, that long ago one very hungry Green Sunfish found the leprechaun’s pot of gold at the end of the rainbow and…ate it! So if you engage in a fierce fish fight with what seems to be a monster the size of a Trophy Catfish…don’t be too stunned to land an adversary no bigger than your typical sunfish! True or not, believe it or not, but you should definitely try your luck at catching the Leprechaun Fish.

The Leprechaun Fish was obtainable in Missouri and Michigan from the 18th to the 22nd of March, 2016. It was the event fish for St. Patrick’s Day.

Past Event Fish: Gar-o-ween 2015/2016

These fish are currently unobtainable. They were available during the Gar-o-ween events of 2015 and 2016, for 10 days, around the time of Halloween.

Black Vampire Gar:

Maximum observed weight: 12.95 kg
Value per fish: 48-65 silver
Location: Last Songs of Summer (Mudwater River – Missouri)
Hook: #4/0; #5/0
Bait: Dead Mice, Pig’s Eyes
Fishing technique: Float fishing. Line leader at 50 cm.

Cast between the two boats on the far bank, roughly 35 m out. Look for this fish from 9pm-5am.

Description:
Black Vampire Gar is one creepy blood-sucking Monster that can be caught in the Mudwater River only at night on Halloweeen. This Dracula-fish may not be too big, weighing around 7-10 kg (15-22 lb), but it sure is one scary critter! So make sure to have the right tackle – this experience will be unforgettable!

Albino Ghost Gar:

Maximum observed weight: 28.9 kg
Value per fish: 106-144 silver
Location: Infinity Tunnels (Everglades – Florida)
Hook: #5/0; #6/0; #7/0
Bait: Dead Mice, Pig’s Eyes
Fishing technique: Float fishing. Line leader at 50 cm.

Walk to the end of the pier. Cast straight ahead around the lily pads, roughly 17-21 m out. Look for this fish from 9pm-5am.

Description:
Albino Ghost Gar turns the color “white” into your darkest nightmare! This Monster mysteriously haunts the Everglades at night on Halloween, ranging in weight from 16 to 24 kg (35-55 lb). Do you have what it takes to cope with this beast?

Green Ogre Gar:

Maximum observed weight: 19.8 kg
Value per fish: 67-99 silver
Location: Into the Rocky Blue (Neherrin River – North Carolina)
Hook: #7/0
Bait: Dead Mice, Pig’s Eyes
Fishing technique: Float fishing. Line leader at 50 cm.

Walk forwards and stand on the rocks in the water. Cast towards the tree that seems to be growing at an angle, roughly 20 m out. Look for this fish from 9pm-5am.

Description:
Green Ogre Gar is a true Monster menace that roams the quiet waters of Neherrin at Halloween. Weighing around 11-15 kg (24-33 lb), this is one tough mutant to catch. But oh boy, are you in for some excitement while trying.

I’ve been told that Green Ogre Gars (and perhaps any Halloween event gar) can be caught in any location where fish are found, and that it may be possible to catch them outside the hours of 9pm-5am. I haven’t tested this.

Bluegill Skeleton:

Maximum observed weight: 0.5 kg
Value per fish: 3 silver
Location: Mudwater River, Missouri; Neherrin River, North Carolina; Everglades, Florida.
Hook: #4/0; #5/0
Bait: Large Cutbait, Dead Mice, Pig’s Eyes
Fishing technique: Float fishing. Line leader at 50 cm.

You’ll likely catch this fish while angling for something else. This fish was a major nuisance at Mudwater River, Missouri, but I didn’t catch a single one at Neherrin River, North Carolina, or the Everglades, Florida.

If you want to eliminate this fish from your catches, I advise using the #7/0 hook while at Neherrin River, North Carolina, and the Everglades, Florida.

Description:
Oops…looks like this poor Bluegill was devoured by a real predator!

Much of the information in this guide comes from my own experimentation, and some of it was obtained via reading the in-game chat and communicating with other players. Sometimes, I had to look at guides on YouTube in order to obtain the knowledge necessary to catch certain fish I had a hard time finding myself. I am leaving links to them here as an acknowledgement of their help and contribution towards the information in this guide.

I’d also like to thank the various players who have offered genuine help here and there. Whether it’s the time(s) for catching uniques or trophies, the best lures for certain fish, or even the exact locations where specific fish can be found, every little bit helps.

None of the information in this guide has been untested; however, as Fishing Planet constantly changes, it may happen that some information here could become obsolete. I cannot retest every single thing in this guide every time the game gets updated. If you’ve tried something here and it doesn’t work for you, feel free to leave a comment explaining what you tried or what you’d like me to test. Maybe you know of a fishing method that’s superior to what’s listed here and would like to share it?

I hope you found this guide useful.

Happy fishing. : )
