Overview
How to fix the continuously resetting of difficulty when loading a saved game.
Good to know
As you may have noticed, when loading a previously saved game, the difficulty setting is set to “medium”.
This could be a problem if you are playing for the “Against All Odds” achievement, that requires you to play on hard difficulty.
First loading the saved game and then change the difficulty in settings, i.e. while playing, could brake the achievement process.
The difficulty option is grayed out before any game is started, which creates a moment 22.
Let us begin
- Start a new game, and choose Hard difficulty.
- Wait while the game is loading.
- You can skip the intro by pressing escape (Esc).
- After the intro, press Esc to bring up the menu.
- Load your saved game of choice.
You can bring up the Gameplay Options and notice that difficulty is set to hard.

FAQ
- Do I have to go through this every time I start the game?
– That is not my experience. Do this once and it should be permanent. (Except maybe if you manually lower the difficulty). - Can I load a save on easy/medium difficulty and still gain the “Against All Odds” achievement?
– No. The save should be created on hard difficulty.
