Fixing Input Bugs When Playing with Keyboard

Overview

Some people believe that controller is necessary to play this game. This belief, in fact, is a myth. The game can be completed and enjoyed from beginning to very end using the keyboard. There are some bugs, but all of them can be worked around. This guide will tell you how it is done.

Introduction

Some people believe that controller is necessary to play this game. This belief, in fact, is a myth. The game can be completed and enjoyed from beginning to very end using the keyboard. There are some bugs, but all of them can be worked around. And here is how it is done.

General Input Lag and Bugs

Some players experience input lag, and stacking all keystrokes together, which makes the game unplayable because it memorizes every key you pressed and then Gabriel does the moves when you don’t need them anymore.

Apparently this happens because the programmers who made controls for this game were careless and didn’t test it on older computer where the game gets slow and skips significant amount of frames when rendering. Or worse, tested but didn’t bother to fix.

So in order to fix it, you must increase the framerate. Go to the options menu and decrease the screen resolution until you find one at which the game works smoothly. This will fix the bugs.

Some alternative methods that might work, but I didn’t try them:

1. Get faster computer.
2. I heard that only Keyboard and Mouse controls are buggy. If that’s the case, a program which converts Keyboard and Mouse inputs into Controller inputs might help. It looks like you need VJoy program to convert Keyboard into controller, and x360ce to convert these inputs into XBOX360 controller that the game supports.

If anyone tries any of these alternative methods please report your results in the comments to let people know if they worked or not.

Titan Boss Fight

You need to throw stones back at the Titan. The on-screen prompt suggests that you need to rotate left analog stick. You press WASDWASD, because that would work even on a console game that’s emulated on the PC, so it has to work on the actual PC game, right? But it isn’t working, so you think the controls are bugged.

The truth is, you’re supposed to press either ASDWASDW or SDWASDWA or DWASDWAS, it is chosen randomly each time, and you have to guess it. Huge flaw is that you don’t get any hints about that. That’s some bad puzzle design, but what you can expect from developers who don’t have enough imagination in this regard, and have to resort to stupid text messages to guide the player?

Thanks to diode and mychaelo for posting the walkthrough of this obscure puzzle in this thread:

Diagonal Dash

At one point in the castle there will be rooms where you’ll have to dash through the runes on the floor to activate them. And in one of them, you will have to dash diagonally. I found that impossible to do with WSAD movement controls, but remapping movement to arrows helped. After completing the diagonal dash, you can safely remap movement back to WSAD as you will not need to do this move anywhere else.
