FRACKIN’ UNIVERSE: 100 advices to traveller

Overview

(Warning – partially machinery translation to ENG)This guide is devoted to playing with the famous global mod – Frackin’ Universe, and is designed for players who relatively knows a vanilla game, and partially a game with this modification. It is known that the author of FU (Sayter) makes additions and changes to modification literally every day, therefore even that avaricious information which can be found in old guides and in half-dead Wiki – in many asspects is hopelessly obsolete. While this guide was writing, for example, new Master Matter Manipulator appeared (10х10), which makes mining-lasers now sort of useless. The guide has no accurate systematization, it`s more about unevident things, findings, observations and secrets in the form of “advices”, flowing one from another like comic dialogue. Something you may know, and something can be useful, especially if you have decided to play hardcore mode. If you have any other useful “advices” and observations, which would be desirable to share – write in comments, i will supplement.FU version at the moment of this guide creation is 5.4.31

Something about Refinery…

We talking about device that mills “ore” to pixels. As it well-known it practically doesn’t work with high-level ores (Irradium and above). However, besides vanilla ores (and bars), actually it is able to refine also something unexpected. The most expensive object is still Diamond, estimated in 600 px. And here is the list of the found-out opportunities for processing:

Cinnabar – 105
Penumbrite – 100
Protocite – 60
Lunari shard – 60
Iodine – 50
Phosphorus – 35
Resin – 30
Silicon – 30
Berlinite – 30
Mascagnite – 30
Ammonium sulfate – 30
Methanol – 30
Genetic material – 25
Magnesite – 25
Mercury – 5

Pay attention – most of basic chemicals can be refined. You shouldn’t throw out some silicone which in large quantities remains after many extractions – for 1000 pieces stack you`ll receive 30.000 pixels! Extracting Methanol from the woods also turns out very profitable, especially at the start of new game. And excess genetic material also can give profit. Cinnabar in principle is one of the most useless materials – mostly as a source of Mercury, while this Mercury is not a problem to find as an “Ocean”. But stack of Cinnabar is about 100k + pixels when refined!

Well, of course you can object, that there is no need in such amounts of pixels…

And what to do with all that pixels?..

Well, besides the obvious – hiring tough and expensive crewmembers at the Science Outpost, it is pretty useful to get an Ansible Network, that can be built at the Power Station (and unlocking through Combustion Generator`s build).

Firstly – it provides cheap medicines of initial levels.
Secondly – it sells full vanilla bunch of seeds , that will allow you to pump up your phyto-genetic lab immediately (and not to float by the boat full of holes, with a bare butt under an acid rain at the Toxic planet, eating up the last first-aid kits and trying to find damned Toxicpop).
Thirdly (and mainly) – an opportunity to buy some oreschemistry that you can`t reach now, cuz of equip or laziness.

Truly “uncomfortable” ore in a game actually is Zerchesium, that often participates in intermediate alloys, equipment and electronic elements. While it seems as an “average” and not too much valuable ore – digging out subsoil of Mountainous planets is not a pleasure, as it doesn’t form mass congestions, doesn’t shine in any way, and ore detector highlights it approximately as well as Violium. And at the Ansible Network one unit of Zerchesium ore costs just 310 pixels. So why not to refine some methanol or silicone, and buy another hundred of ore and save yourself from a boring grind on the boring mountain planet? That`s what we`re talking about.

It is also can be handy to buy some Telebrium crystals that is also appears in some intermediate recipes. Finally, you can buy an extremely useful Thorium just for 400 pixels, that can become your first (and maybe the main) Ultronium source – the top radioactive rod, participates in top alloys and giving 50 Precursor Quantum Fluid at Erchium Converter. Thorium rod also gives 5 of this fuel…. And don`t forget – Thorium and Telebrium are also necessary to craft Phase Matter at the Bio Chem Lab.

Buying ores, chemicals for fertilizers, medicine and seeds – all this aviable with an Ansible Network, perfect device to spend your pixels…

Well, you can also you buy this monstrous statue for 120k, if you`ll find exact trader!

Something about lighting…

At this moment FU proposing the mass of solutions as “personal lighting”. Gradated Flashlights, hand lighters, various chemistry and phyto-products. New Plasma Light EPP is also here, improved with breath system and pressure protection (redesigned for Gas giants, probably).

Crystal light – a hand lamp, light emits through front blocks.
Disposable light – expendable medicine, which shines through front blocks.
Flare gun – shoots with yellow flaresticks.
Blister sack and Gold shroom – a phyto-products that gives a temporary glow.
Oonforta globule – throwable lighting mushrooms.

Some sets and separate elements of armor are also have effect of a luminescence. Moreover, Yellow stim packs and Light augments are still here from vanilla…

(By the way, the old trick with captured Lumoth and Oblivious collar not works fine now, as in the Universe of FU there are too many various hazardous environment, gases and liquids – animal just dies at the first minutes of adventure)

So there is a quite distinct dilemma: what shines well – doesn’t illuminate blocks through, and what emits light through – shines too nearby. Therefore old manner excavations with ordinary torches may remain as a well-tried remedy: there are a lot of them, and they cost nothing.

And here comes actually handy alternate solution!
Look for nearby Blue stars and find Chromatic planet orbiting in that systems. Land and grab that shiny blocks (Chromatic dirt) how many can carry and stock it. (Sand can be taken too – handy in some aquariums, hah). I think you already got what i mean…

Chromatic dirt is the most bright shining block in a game, and lights everything through with quite long distance. Just take stack of these blocks to an excavation – and use like a torches. It is possible to build handy climb platforms, and the most important – any liquid environments will not extinguish them, they lights always and everywhere.

Chromatic blocks have also an another useful application: a complete supply of solar batteries even in case of total absence of other light sources. Including being set on a background. Including on the ship. Mobile complex of the condenser-tramp can looks so, and occupies just 4-5 slots in inventory:

Well… For real hobo and master of the galaxy we can offer this elite assembly. 3 slots in inventory. Deployment time – 30 seconds after disembark:

And what to condensate?

To explain this simpler – here is how instinctively it seems to you that here in the atmosphere can theoretically drop out – that most likely will drip into your condensers. At the Ocean – it will be dense amounts of salt, pieces of corals, sand and mysterious dihydrogen monoxide; an other junk and initial ores, close to subject. Couple rods of deuterium and tritium also can drop. At the “Hot” planets – respectively, generally drops coal, lava, sulphur and so forth. Here`s several examples of average condensation on planet types Infernus, Tar ball, Thundra:

Objectively – atmospheric condensers aren’t capable to provide you with something really valuable and necessary in desirable quantity – this technological stage quickly comes and also quickly leaves. Mission of condensers rather in that, that you can unlock various crafting recipes through interaction with new found reagents. So, to build massive condenser farms (if only you are not a fan of the the monstrous self-provided plants) – there is no real sense.
But if you have suddenly begun a new game in FU, or begun to play on hardcore – couple condensers with the battery in inventory can really be useful for safe geological exploration at the difficult planets.

Condensers reacts to a terraforming: when Aether Ocean planet terraformed to Eden – condensate has considerably became much worse:

So what`s about all this FU? Where to fly and what to do?

In general, Frackin’ Universe suppose to enlarge and expand vanilla Starbound. An original game as you have to remember, comes to an “technological” end with a stage of Solarium Ore, 6th tier of equipment, and the 6th threat level for planets (magma, volcanic, scorched). And to an infinite farming of that ancient dungeons, looking for terra- and micro-formers and an Ancient essence, to upgrade your garbage equipment to the 6th level (via an extortionate essence rate of course).

Basicly, Frackin` Universe expands planetary threatment`s levels and arsenal tiers up to 8, offers the mass of alternative biomes and mini-biomes in this scale, numerous ores accompanying these biomes and mini-biomes, blocks, accessories, mobs and reagents.

Before departing somewhere – attentively examine nearby star systems, regarding existence of Eden planet (could be at any star system, except Black stars). Such “paradise” planets are deprived of serious dangers, except groups of bandits at the surface, but visiting such planets, especially at early stages of a game, can give you a lot of profits. Firstly – at these planets it is always possible to meet ownerless laboratories and to loot blocks, equipment and craft stations from FU. Secondly – with some chance it is possible to meet also lootable stores from a Teleshop (Terramart, Infinity Express, etc.)

Mini FAQ

– Where to get a lot of Oil?
– Oil in the form of “oceans” really doesn’t meet in a game, but the ocean of Black Tar can be obtained at the Strange Sea planets. Black Tar processed with a rich amount of oil at the Quantum Extractor (1:2).

– Where to to get Spare Parts for bots production?
– Can come across through excavation of Cyber-planets, but the best way – excavation at the Wasteland (IV) planet type, where this crafting material forms an “ore fields” inside subterranian blocks.

– How to get a lot of Phosphorus?
– Honestly, digging through Red Desert planets for enriched by phosphorus blocks is not really interesting. But it is possible to deploy couple hydroponic trays with wheat – and to extract surplus of wheat and seeds at the Quantum Extractor with an acceptable amounts (2 units of phosphorus from 1 wheat material).

– How to get Hardened Monster Plate?
– Hunt “large” mobs. Dinosaurs on Primeval-planets (BTW you can use their eggs to grow small dinos), Snow and Sulfuric trolls, Super-gorillas, etc.
