Overview

“Beta Branch”

I get a lot of questions about issues in the game that have been solved in the “beta branch” of the game and simply activating the games “beta branch option” would solve their issues. Frankly I don’t see a reason to NOT have the beta branch enabled so if you haven’t done so yet, go ahead and do some right now!

To do so simply:

Click on Library in Steam, find this game in your Steam Library, right click game and select “properties”, click on “betas” tab and “opt into” beta branch.

GENERAL PARTY/ITEM USE INFORMATION

EARLY GAME

SPECIFICALLY: Levels 1-8
PARTY: Ceri + Sylvi + whoever you have captured
ITEMS: All + res/SMALL/MEDIUM stat seeds go on Sylvi, if Sylvi has 4/6 in stat give the SMALL/MEDIUM stat seed to Ceri.

MID GAME

SPECIFICALLY: Levels 9-16
PARTY: Ceri + Yomi + Sylvi + whoever
ITEMS: All + res/SMALL/MEDIUM/LARGE stat seeds go on Sylvi, if Sylvi has 4/6/8 in stat give the SMALL/MEDIUM/LARGE stat seed to Ceri.

END GAME

SPECIFICALL: Levels 17-FIN
PARTY: Sylvi + Succubus + Sand Sentinel + Forest Spirit + Tatsu + Ceri* (has to be in party)
ITEMS: All + res seeds still go on Sylvi, once Sylvi hits 8 in all stats only give her HUGE AGI and MNTL seeds. Once Succubus hits 8 in all stats give her all HUGE STR and VIT seeds. Once Sand Sentinel hits 8 in all stats give her all the HUGE DEX seeds. Get Forest Spirit and Tatsu to 8 in all stats and stop there- Ceri should already be 8 in all stats by this point, don’t give her any more seeds…

WHY

AP is everything in this game, it is what determines if you can act, dodge, get critical hit, and even hugely impacts “flow”. All stats in game can be maxed with enough time, meaning everyone can be 8 in all stats, also people can be given scrolls to fill out their skills, people however cannot be given abilities/traits (unsure what they are called, they are listed on the right side of their profile) and thus those become the most “powerful” things in the game. “Recovery” is by far the most powerful of those in the game, it means that with high AGI (8 end game and 10+ for Slyvi) they will be recovering AP in massive chunks every single turn without having to “rest” (ie. take no action)- this means that your people will be dealing more damage (high chance to crit, able to use skills, etc) while at the same time taking massively less damage (higher AP pool means less chance for enemy to hit, crit, ect). This means that those that come with this ability/trait trump all those that do not. You will notice with people (even Yomi) that don’t have the trait/ability Recovery that they will drop in AP slowly down to nothing and then they will start to take massive hits, crits, lose armor rating and die (or you will just be sitting there clicking “guard” over and over again)- also, if Yomi dies it is an instant game over, something that frankly adds a whole new level of “risk” using her that takes her entirely out of play. The other big thing after “Recovery” is which/what skills do they come with, as some in game rarely if ever drop and can’t be sold in store. Forest Spirit + Sand Sentinel come with Holy Arrows skill + Hunter Trait/Ability, which is brutal, and there is really only one “Holy Arrows” scroll in game! Picking up Tatsu and giving her the skill with the scroll means all three have Recovery + Hunter + Holy Arrows, the only thing that makes Sand Sentinel better at that point in time is her % res which is much higher.

USING SEEDS

Seeds are very costly, be sure to not use a seed at the wrong time! SMALL seeds can boost up to 4, meaning use a small seed (much, much cheaper) when they have 2-3 in that stat. MEDIUM seeds go up to 6, which means DO NOT use on someone with a stat of 2-3, use a SMALL- use the MEDIUM seeds on those with 4-5 in the stat. LARGE seeds will increase to 8, so like the MEDIUM seed, ONLY use a LARGE seed on stats 6-7. HUGE seeds will increase anything over 8 for ever, obviously ONLY use these seeds on stats that are greater then or equal to 8.

CONTROLS TO NOTE

Clicking on “A” will start/stop autobattle, “S” will speed up battles, and “2” will make you walk in a straight line until you hit a wall. “2” + “E” + “E” + “2” on long hallways is the best way to grind- once battle starts you can click “A” + “S” to speed the process up even more if you desire.

RECOMMENDED GRIND LEVEL
-The level I would recommend grinding (fighting battles over and over again) to on each level, based on hardest difficulty (abyssmal). At this level you should be able to breeze through even the boss fights (if using my party configuration) as well as capture all enemies on level.

Confusion Lights
-There are “lights” on this level which will spin you around in circles, trying to make it difficult to move forward. The trick is to walk under these lights backwards (ie walk up to the light, spin around, and then click “S”) and then when it has spun you around to just click “W” or “forward”- you can repeat this process as much as needed to end up on the path you desire (ie. “S” + “W”, repeat)

Go to Ryuuou on level 16 and talk to her, go back to town and do the walk in town event “check on seals”. Fight Izanami. Gain “Talisman Outfit Set”.

RANT: 10 Simple Changes/Additions That Would (IMO) Drastically Improve This Game as a Dungeon Crawler

1. Party size of 5-6: Yes, you can currently have a part of 6, but 3 don’t do anything. The UI is already set up and is large enough to include at least 2 more people to be a part of the active team. Increase the active squad size to 5-6 and remove the “bench warmers” aspect entirely from game.

2. Fight more enemies at a time: with an increase in your active party size to 5-6, you should also be fighting groups of enemies of 5-6. In the game currently there are only a couple times, LITERALLY in the ENITRE GAME that you fight more than 3 people at a time, this is a HUGE waste of potential…

3. Front row/back row: add having a front row and a back row, either with 3 in each or the option to have two in the front three in back or three in front two in back. Melee abilities would only be able to hit those in the front row (if there are people in the front row) with ranged being able to hit those in the back row

4. Less playable characters: each person you capture you can have join your fighting team, however they quickly become useless vs newest captures and thus your party becomes a revolving door. Make full party creation at the start OR only allow for a HANDFUL of unique followers directly related to party size- if active party size is 5-6 then have 12-18 unique followers MAX- so that you can/will become attached to your party.

5. Captured creatures improve party and/or skills: instead of having a captured member become a party member (see point 3- having over 50 joinable is a joke) have them augment the team, or certain abilities instead. Example: you start with “single slash” but capturing a “boar” the boar would upgrade the ability to “double slash”, capturing a “Cat” next would decrease the AP cost of it, capturing a Succubus next would turn it into “double fire slash”, etc etc…

6. Outfit sets get broken up and become item equips that the entire party can use that have bonuses: instead of only Ceri and Yomi having the option for outfit sets have the entire party be able to use them (the total joinable members would be much, much smaller than the current 50+ so this would be doable) have them be broken into individual items and have them add abilities- ie. “Soccer Socks” that give the ability/trait “Recovery”. With this you would be able to piece together outfits that you like (for abilities) as well as for looks, and be able to add “set bonuses” for wearing a complete set. I would assume you would have something like “head” + “torso” + “waist” + “legs” + “feet” giving a total of 5 abilities +1 possibly for a set bonus.

7. Weapons: not in game at all, should be added… If you don’t want to add “damage multipliers” and such because it would be “too complicated” all you would have to do is tie unique bonuses to certain weapons, (ie. 10% extra XP, 3x crit chance, etc) and tie “total number of skills” to the weapons themselves vs just having a flat “6 abilities total” (ie. early game weapon you can only equip two skill/abilities, late game weapon you can equip 6-8 skills abilities, etc)

8. More traps/types and an ability/way to disarm them + more secret walls ability to detect them: this should be standard in any dungeon crawler. Frankly the best I have seen in this regard was with Might and Magic X- you didn’t have to go around bumping into every single wall to find a secret wall, and when you found it you didn’t simply “open it” or “walk through it”.

9. Voices/sound affects in combat: you don’t want to pay for voice actors for the story? Fine… But cutting it from combat? Weak… seriously weak… Some of the funniest moments in older games such as Wizardry 8 is when you land a crit and your guy/girl automatically starts talking crap. Also, the “breaking down of clothing/armor” is awesome, but we need to HEAR the response in combat- from those having their clothing/armor broken as well as from the person doing the breaking!

10. Actually having a “town”: when you “go back to town” all you have currently is walls of text… you should clearly actually HAVE a town… You want to “go to the shop” you should walk from the teleporter to the shop door and click on it. This seriously does not need to be a huge deal, it could have been seriously a half a dozen or so buildings… Instead of clicking on “walk around town” and having more texts, have an “event” (just like they do in the dungeon) that you have to walk up to in the town itself.
