Overview
This guide will help you get Fallout 3 to work. If you aren’t a fan of reading, go to the video at the bottom of the guide.
Windows Game for Live
A lot of guides told me to get a mod so I didn’t have to download Games for Live, but I don’t think that not being able to map the home key or seeing the LIVE button in the menus to be an issue.
Google “Windows Game for Live” and it will be the first link.
Open the file and follow the download wizard, then launch the program. It’s going to ask you to login, but you don’t have to, so you can just exit the program.
Intel HD Graphics Bypass
Intel HD Graphics Bypass Package[www.nexusmods.com]
If you don’t know how to use Nexus Mod Manager, skip this paragraph:
Download the mod and put the “d3d9.dll” file into your Fallout file for steam. Then, open up your C drive then Users, then your name or whatever your username for your PC is, then Documents, My Games, then finally, Fallout3. Drag the “FALLOUT.INI” document from the Intel HD Bypass folder into the Fallout3 folder. Click on replace the file and you’re done.
The next file you are going to need to download is from Nexus Mod Manager. You will need an account to download the mod. Click manual download in the top right, then click slow download. Open the folder in downloads until you see 3 documents. Go to Steam and right click on Fallout 3. Hover over “Manage”, then click on “Browse Local Files.” From there, you are going to drag the “d3d9.ll” from the Intel HD Bypass folder into your Fallout 3 game folder. If it asks you if you want to replace files, then say yes. Next, you are going to open up File Explorer and go to Local Disk (C:) then Users, then your name or whatever your username for your PC is, then Documents, My Games, then finally, Fallout3. Drag the “FALLOUT.INI” document from the Intel HD Bypass folder into the Fallout3 folder.
Editing Fallout 3’s Properties
To get everything to work, you will need to go back to the Steam Fallout 3 folder. Left Click on the Fallout3.exe file then right click and select properties. Go to the compatibility tab and check “Run this program in compatibility mod for:” then select Windows XP (Service Pack 3). On the same page check “run this program as an administrator. Click apply and then your properties should look like this:
Once you’re in the game
When you launch the game, you will need to manually input your graphics settings. NO MATTER WHAT GRAPHICS CARD YOU HAVE your settings will say you have an NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS. Don’t worry, it only says that because of the Intel HD Graphics mod you installed.
If your in game keybinds are not saving , then once the game boots up, type in the console “saveini”. Your game will freeze for a couple seconds, then you should be good to play!
