Getting Started for Forgotten Myths CCG

Getting Started

Overview

Guide to help brand new players with the very beginning of Forgotten Myths.

Introduction and links

(still a work in progress, need to add pictures and sections at the end)

Hi all,

This guide is intended to help new players learn the game and get past the tutorial. It will also have helpful advice throughout and describe each section of the game.

As always, this is a work in progress and invite new and old players to leave feedback on how to improve the guide.

The first parts will be divided into steps to get you past the tutorial. I’ll try to provide additional information for the parts of the tutorial that may not be obvious to some.

Official game guide is found at:

Here is a battle tutorial video created by one of the top players, unicorn7:

Step 1 – Account Creation

Once you start up the game, this is your standard account creation, click on Register in bottom right corner.

Enter your chosen username, email and password. If your username is already in use it will ask you to enter another one.

You may want to avoid using a complicated username as the current chat system requires players to accurately type your name for whispers (case-sensitive). You cannot click on someone’s name to whisper to them.

Step 2 – Choose Your Faction

At this point you need to pick a faction which determines which of the three starter decks you will receive.

Your faction choice does not lock you into using others. This is just to get you a starter deck. After you can build on this deck or get cards from any other faction (color) and do as you like.

All three are viable.

White leans more towards healing and buffing.
Red has some troops that return when they die. Also has a bit of control.
Black focuses a bit more on damage.

Again, this is only to determine your starter deck. You can even get the other two starter decks later. They cost 3500 coins which isn’t very much.

NOTE: From this point on you can access the in-game Chat by clicking on the button at the top right. Use the General tab to chat with others in game. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, the community is very good.

Step 3 – Kickstart your account (Referral system)

You get an instant 2000 coins and 5 cards by entering someone’s username as a referral.

You need to type in their exact username.

There is no reason not to do this as it costs you nothing and you get a reward. If you skip this part by clicking on No Thanks, you do not get the bonus 2000 coins and 5 cards.

The player you used as referral does not get anything at this time. Later, if you purchase any of the premium currency, they will get a bonus on your first purchase. You dont lose anything, your purchase isn’t affected. It’s a straight up bonus they get, but only on your first purchase.

If you know someone already playing, by all means use their username as referral.

If not, i would appreciate it if you used mine: Deimos

In return, if you end up making a purchase and I get a bonus, I will give you cards or coins as soon as you reach level 10 (when you can access the auction house, only way to ‘trade’ with others).

Step 4 – Welcome to Doma!

The game welcomes you and asks you to look around and find the Arena.

You can click and drag to look around. At this time there are only a couple places you can go (Arena and Options).

You can also click on Chat and the X to exit.

On the left side you will see your name, coins, emeralds and picture with your level.

You will also see the picture of the tutorial narrator. You can click on her picture to see the last tutorial message she wrote.

Once you’ve looked around a bit, click on Arena and it will start the tutorial match.

Step 5 – The Tutorial Match

The game begins and you are at the bottom of the screen and your opponent is at the top. There is a black line running across that seperates your areas.

On the left is your portrait, name and a number indicating the number of cards in your hand.

To the right are the cards in your hand. Those that can be played right now are highlighted in blue.

On the right is your life total (20) and a smaller 0 above it. This indicates how many cards are in your discard pile (to the very right, it will show the last card discarded, you can double click to zoom on it, nothing in there now however).

On the left you will see a blue orb with 0/0. This indicates how much energy you have available and in total. Energy is used to summon new troops, cast spells, use abilities and pretty much everything else in the game.

You will also see your deck of cards and a number indicating how many cards are still in your deck. This may be obscured by the picture of the narrator or the tutorial message.

Near the middle (attack zone) you will see 6 places for troops (crossed swords) and below that are 3 places for fortifications (castles).

Near the top left you will see a red box with 1-1 in it. This indicates which phase you are currently in. See the next section of this guide for an explanation of phases.

Tutorial step: Place energy
Drag one of the +1 Energy cards towards the middle of the screen and let go. This will add 1 energy to your available and total energy.

The rest of the tutorial:
The tutorial forces you to select certain cards and place them in certain places. In a real match you will have full control over your actions. For now, follow along by selecting and placing cards as per the requested method (the cards and locations will glow or be framed in white).

The End Phase button is at the bottom right corner.
Anytime it’s your turn, you can double click on any card to zoom in and get a better look.

The tutorial will teach you the basics of energy, card placement and casting spells.

You can skip ahead to Step 6 or read the next two sections for more information on the Phases of a round and how to activate abilities and cast spells/enchantments.

Explanation of Phases

Each round is divided into 3 phases.

At the start of phase one your available energy is replenished and you draw card(s). (0 energy and 7 cards for first round).
During phase 1, each player will get to play cards into the attack zone or fortification zone, depending on what cards they have and how much energy they have and want to use.

Each round it alternates who goes first, later you will see that your strategy will vary depending on who plays when.

Phase 2 is when you can play spells, enchantments and use the abilities of the cards you have in play. You can only do this if you have the energy or other requirements of the cards (some dont have any and are free to use each turn, some may require you to sacrifice cards or life).

Phase 3 is when the troops on each side battle.
This is resolved from left to right. The cards that face each other will deal damage to each other. Those without anyone in front of them will hit the player directly. Cards that are reduced to 0 life are sent to the discard pile.

If there are any fortifications in play and they have garisoned troops, they will fire prior to the attack zone cards hitting each other. (garisonned troops are a type of card that you deploy to the attack zone and then during phase 2 you can use their ability to move them into the fortification. Their damage will be applied to both enemy attack zone cards in front of that fortification space)

Note that special abilities and enchantments can affect what actually happens but the above description of phase 3 is the basic explanation of how things unfold.

Spells, Enchantments and Abilities – How to

There are three different ways that spells and abilties activate.

Points to remember:
– you must have the requirements to cast or activate (enough energy or whatever else is needed)
– you must be in phase 2
– any card that can be played will glow
– spells and abilities can have any sort of target, enchantments can only affect your own cards

Any spell, enchantment or ability that targets another card in play uses Click and Drag to target. As soon as you click on it and start dragging, your available targets should glow. Simply drag to that target and release to activate or cast.

A spell that targets a player (you or opponent) or is global (has no single target) is cast by clicking and dragging into the playing area, same way as you play an energy card.

An ability (from a card in play) that targets a player or is global is activated by clicking and holding on the card for a couple seconds. You will see the word “Casting…” appear and the abilitiy will be activated shortly.

Step 6 – Your first victory

You will end up winning the tutorial match and rewarded with 100 experience (for leveling up), some coin and even 2 emeralds (premium currency, you wont get this from matches in future, only as quest rewards, leaderboard or tournament rewards, or by purchasing them with money)

You will now see that you can access the Rewards chest in the city. This is where you go to claim rewards from completing Quests (more on that soon).

You will be rewarded with a random card (daily login quest reward) and 3000 coins for completing the tutorial match quest.

Step 7 – The Marketplace

As soon as you enter the Marketplace you will be told to purchase a booster. You cannot proceed without doing this.

You will see the boosters for white, red and black. You can also scroll to see what other boosters can be bought later.

For now, you must purchase the booster matching the faction (color) of your starter deck. In my case i had white so I click on the 3000 coin button for the white booster. Click Yes to confirm.

It will show you the random cards you just received. To the right of the name of the card is a symbol which designates the type of card it is (enchantment, spell, attack zone card type, fortification, etc). The color of the symbol represents the rarity.

Common – white
Uncommon – green
Rare – yellow
Epic – purple
Legendary – red

You can double click on a card to zoom in for a better look.

After purchasing the booster and seeing those cards, you can browse the different sections of the Marketplace.

Packs – boosters and pre-made decks
Cards – individual cards (common, uncommon only). Can also sell your cards for coins however you dont get a lot back.
Shop – purchase premium currency (emeralds) with money
Promo – special cards that require emeralds to purchase
Auction – Auction house where you can buy/sell cards with other players (must be level 10 to access)

Note that some sections and items have different level restrictions. Everything is unlocked by the time you reach level 10.

The promo cards can only be purchased with emeralds if you yourself made any purchase in the Shop. For example, let’s say you accumulated enough emeralds from queusts or received a referral bonus from someone else, you will still be unable to purchase a promo card until you have bought at least the lowest emerald package in the Shop (currently 1.99). Once you have done that one purchase, you can spend whatever emeralds you want in the Promo section.

Step 8 – The Inventory

The Inventory is where you will make modifications to your deck.

There are three main parts of the Inventory.

The very top and left of the screen show control buttons while below that are icons representing all the card factions (colors). White, Red, Black, Neutral, Green, Blue, Forgers

The upper section shows all the cards currently in your deck.

The bottom section are all the cards in your inventory that are not in your deck.

For now, try exiting from here without doing any changes. (this is to avoid a possible bug, you can come right back into inventory after you exit)

There will be a more detailed explanation of this section later in this guide.

***NOTE***
Some players are experiencing a bug where they cannot complete this part. The cause hasn’t been identified yet so I highly recommend you dont try messing around with all the buttons, just click on the Add button of 3 or 4 cards that match your starter deck color, click on Save then on the X.

Once the tutorial is over, you can come back in here and explore all you want, there hasn’t been any report of a bug to the Inventory once tutorial is done.

This part of the tutorial will likely be removed in a future patch or update.

If you do end up with this bug, the tutorial narrator keeps telling you your deck isn’t strong enough, need to add cards, you can try exiting the game and coming back in to the Inventory. If that fails, click on Clear button, then add around 24 same color cards to the deck and 12 +1 energy cards. Click on Save then exit.

If you are still stuck, open up the chat window and go to the Players tab, see if anyone with a Blue colored name is there. If so, from the General tab, ask for help. If nobody in blue is there you can still ask for help and a player may offer some suggestions however they cannot do everything a dev could (those in blue).

If you cannot get any resolution still, send an email to [email protected] and they are very quick to fix the issue.

End of tutorial – Now what?

Congrats, the tutorial is over and now the world is yours!

At this point you will see all the other sections of the town are opened up. Go ahead and look around.

The following parts of this guide will talk about each section of the town that has not yet been covered.

NOTE: If you still see the Narrator’s picture, you can exit the game and log back in and it should be gone.

Single Player

Single Player is where you will find all the missions you can play against the computer AI.

The majority of your experience and coins will come from completing the quests associated to the single player missions.

Each mission set has four quest rewards associated to it, one for each of the star difficutly settings. Inside each mission set are anywhere from 4 to 6 opponents you must defeat.

There’s also a quest reward for finishing each of the four campaigns, which are a group of mission sets.

At the start, you will have unlocked the first mission set of each part of the very first campaign. In order to move into the next campaign you must fully complete every mission set of the first campaign which will give you the quest reward for completing the Classic Storyline which is 25 emeralds.

NOTE: As a brand new player, you will likely find some of these first missions difficult and may have to attempt them several times.
Do not get discouraged, each time you level up you will get 2x +2 energy cards that you can immediately put in your deck to replace the +1 energy cards. I also highly recommend you visit the Marketplace – Cards where you can buy individual cards to strenghten your deck.

Ask in Chat – General for advice on what cards you should buy. Let the others know what faction (color) your deck is and they will tell you which cards are better. Dont forget you can add up to four Neutral cards as well as the Forger cards to your deck. Depending on which color your deck is, you can also add a second color to it as long as they are not opposites (white cannot go with black for example).

Quests and Rewards

The Quests screen shows you all the quests that are available, their reward and your progress to achieving them.

There are daily quests, PVP quests and the single player mission quests.

There are many single player mission quests and the rewards start to get bigger and bigger as you scroll down. The reward it shows is for completing the current mission set, it grows each time you finish a set and move up on difficulty.

You can click on the Rewards chest in the city to collect any quest rewards you have earned. It automatically gives you whatever you have completed and then tells you when there is nothing left at this time.

Arena

The Arena is where you will play against other players.

There are currently three modes with three more coming soon.

Skirmish – 1v1 against anyone, both winner and loser get experience and coins. Does not affect your rank or honor (for leaderboard placement).

Battleground – 1v1 against a player within 2 rank categories of you. Winner gains honor while the loser loses honor. The results affect your rank level as well as your Honor for the current month’s leaderboard. (rank and honor will be explained in the Leaderboard section of this guide)

Duel – 1v1 against any player where you select a card rarity and the winner gets a random card of that rarity from your inventory. It cannot select a card that is in your deck.

The next three modes will be released later (Tournament, 2 v 2 and Co-op).

To start a Skirmish game you can click on Join if someone is waiting for an opponent or click on Create Game to host one yourself.

In Battleground, you can only click on Create Game and it will match you with an appropriately ranked opponent who has also clicked on Create Game.

Duel works the same as Skirmish however you need to also select a card rarity to wager on the outcome of the match.

Leaderboards

The Leaderboards show the monthly struggle for top Honors!

At the end of each month rewards are given based on your placement on the leaderboard. Both coins and emeralds are awarded.

The Honor score goes up or down depending on the results of your battleground matches. This score is reset to 0 at the end of each month. Your Rank is your cumulative Honor gained since you started playing. It too can go up or down however the higher your rank, the more honor you need to win or lose for it to change.

Here are the rewards you can win, this was taken from the official Forgotten Myths detailed guide available at their website. These rewards will increase or the range will widen as more players join the game.
