Overview
In this work-in-progress guide we tell you how to get the game going and limping along so you can play.
Intro
Hello,
This work-in-progress guide needs your help, we need you to report in with your bugs and fixes!
Hopefully by the end we will have an all-inclusive helpful guide.
1. Get a 3DFX wrapper
By default Steam downloads but doesn’t install nGlide 1.03.
Instead, here’s a link to nGlide 1.05 [link]
Download and install that, now run it from your start menu and configure as required (for example, I turn VSync off).
Voila.
2. Compatability settings
Use Steam to go into the local files, then go into the Defiance directory, then right click IWDA.exe and set the compatability to Win95 in order to get it to work with nGlide.
3. Modern joysticks
I have an old x52 (the one with the serial cable instead of two USB cables), there’s a lot of problems with lateral thrust.
When I fix them the answers will apear here, unless you get them first and post them in comments.
For now it appears you may have to install a generic joystick driver in the place of your desired stick and tell Windows to pass that to old games that don’t know better. This is based off this information – [link]
4. Key Bindings
It appears that you can’t rebind in any of the three IWar games so here’s the keybindings – [link]
But you can find and edit them in:
…STEAMsteamappscommonIndependence War Deluxepsgkeyboard.ini
and
…STEAMsteamappscommonIndependence War DeluxeDefiancepsgkeyboard.ini
Backup before you start editing or delete the file and re-aquire it if you screw up 🙂
There’s also a manual in …STEAMsteamappscommonIndependence War DeluxeMANUAL.pdf
Summary
Once we’ve compiled a good guide I’ll include all the mandatory stuff in the summary, first things first is make sure you have section 1 (the wrapper) installed.
Please leave your helpful comments 🙂
