Overview
This guide will give some clues on how to maximize gold from a Crassus Detonator, and then the secret to the fastest way to mine it (hint: use a driller).
Selecting Where to Detonate Your Crassus
The Crassus Detonator is unlike a Bulk Detonator, in that they don’t seek you out unless you’re in their line of site. As you get in proximity of one, they will come after you. Start damaging it and bring it close to destruction, but before you strike the final blow, try and lead it into a smaller tunnel. This is so that when it does explode, it will line the walls, floor and ceiling with golden nuggets!
After it blows up, you will get a pretty awesome amount of gold. I managed this one on a solo mission with only Bosco for help, it wasn’t perfect but was pretty good.
Strip the rock away from the gold
OK, you’ve lured your Crassus into a smaller space, blown it sky high, and now are ready to mine it. There are multiple ways to do this, and any comments from other miners are welcomed. If you managed to get Pots of Gold from the bar, it could take quite a while to mine all the gold and load into Molly. If you are playing Haz 4 or 5 your also going to get plenty of attention from other bugs in multiple waves, so be quick.
In this example I used my driller to separate the gold from the rock. You need to go over the perimeter of the gold deposit like you’re giving it a haircut. Be careful not to drop all the gold with you on top, as you will come falling down and take damage. Also, try and make sure you have enough fuel stashed nearby. Molly should be staked right in the base of the pit so you’re not chasing her around to load up. The image shows the driller on top of the head of gold.
Mining the Gold for Best Value or Fastest Way
The fastest way to get the gold is to drop a satchel charge on top, get clear and blow it. You may have to try it more than once, and while this gets the gold the fastest, you don’t get the most value. You get higher value of gold when you use your pick ax to chip away at the edges and drop it in large chunks. Once the gold is in the bottom of the crater you just need to load it into Molly. Load the gold and buy a yacht
While mining the gold you will get plenty of warnings that your bag is full, just ignore it and keep dropping gold to the floor of the crater, or have another miner at the bottom load while you mine. At the end, your crater should look something like this:
I’ve gotten anywhere from 800 to upwards of 4000 gold, all depending on where you detonate it or if you mine it with a pick ax. If you’re in Haz 4 or 5, you may not get it all because you will have other distractions, such as multiple swarms. Good luck!
