Go Full Bore – Win the race with your rival

Overview

This guide contains tips on how to beat your rival in the race. It starts with some information about gameplay elements and will continue with showing you the details which may make the difference between winning or losing on your way down. Every step is described in word and image to make it easier to understand.

1. Introduction

Welcome to my second guide on Steam. As stated in the description this guide contains tips on how to win the race with your rival. While playing the game you will reach the point (pretty early in the game) where you have to race your rival.
It is not necessary to win this race as you get the story relevant item independent from the result of this little showoff. However you get an additional “cosmetic” item, as well as the achievement “Go Full Bore” and the knowledge that you are the more awesome boar.
As you see in the pictures I’ve played as Hildi (the female boar) while creating this guide but it doesn’t make any difference as who you play since the racing route is both times absolutely identical.

2. Gameplay Basics

Most of these are obvious, especially since the game “teaches” you the most stuff while playing the game. As stupid as some of them sound I want to emphasize on the following four points:

1. Remember that you can rewind your moves. If you have the feeling that you could do a played part better than rewind it and play it again. You probably need it often while trying to win this race for the first time.

2. Some types of blocks (like ash or sand) will break just by stamping. This effect has a radius of two spaces. Use it to your advantage (see also point 4)

3. While falling down you can press the stamp button/key. This will accelerate you and has the same effect as an actual stamp on the block you are landing. For this guide I will call this “downdashing”.

4. If you are digging the same type of block mutiple times (somewhere around 8-10 times +) without digging other types your mining (for this type) will get faster and faster until you reach a “Speed Dig Mode” (indicated by a colored “shadow” like Frederick on the left side of the picture).
This “Speed Dig Mode” will stop as soon as you mine another type of block again or if the time between two digs is too long (somewhere around 1-2 seconds). However you can use the time in between to stamp (or to loiter around) and in such manner break sand and ash blocks (without digging them) which otherwise would stop your “Speed Dig Mode”.

3. Where to go

I won’t really explain the way here. You should find (by pure coincidence or aimless running around) sooner or later the Dig Site. If you have troubles finding it use this part of the map as reference.

The small red arrow on the map does indicate the place you need to reach. It is the down left side of the Dig Site. From there we have to go to The Digs where our rival will challenge us.

4. The Race

The greetings are exchanged. Now it is time to win this race. My explanations heavily rely on the pictures. You may need to enlarge them to see everything. The route I have taken (not that there are many possibilitys) is marked as red line with some additional notes. I’ll try to explain first and then show the pictures. So the text should always be above the inherent image.

You start on the right route. Jump down and dig through the sand blocks to the right side and then go down. You should downdash immediately for two reasons: You will be faster and you will break the sand block on the wood block as soon as you land. Jump on the wood block and charge to the left. If you have done everything correctly you should be in “Speed Dig Mode” and you will reach middle column before your rival can shove a block in your way. Now just follow the way by normal digging.

Your rival will overtake you and he will shove a “penalty” block in your way. Shove it to the left two times and downdash. If your timing is good you will hit the bridge block the moment it has completely fallen down and by doing so break the sand block. Jump down and shove the block to the right and climb on it, charging to the right.

Start digging the earth blocks but pay attention to NOT dig the sand block on the right. Going down you can now choose two routes. One to the left and one down. Although the way down is longer it is the one to choose since it consists of the same earth blocks we digged before and we can reach “Speed Dig Mode”. To keep it we have to stamp one time (see picture for the correct spot) and break all the sand blocks in our way.

And then for some reason Frederick made a break. It is probably a bug since I wasn’t too fast and he just stopped moving. He probably wanted to look at my butt ….

Well, back to the actual unbugged race. If you are in time you should get to this point the moment the “penalty” block lands on the sand block and you can follow the route to the right. Nothing to pay attention here. And don’t be irritated by the arrow in my picture. By the time you will reach there the block will be one space down. After coming to the right side jump down into the ash blocks. You have again two possibilites to solve this. Going down and shoving the block to the right or stamping the bridge block down (like shown in the picture) which is faster. Keep following the route to the sand blocks.

We have arrived at the final part. Dig away the sand blocks and stamp in the right down corner (check the marked spot in the picture) to break the two sand blocks blocking our way. Stamping here has the huge benefit that the two two sand blocks on our rivals route will stay and stop his “Speed Dig Mode” giving us important seconds to win the race (thanks to [SeHa] criva for this really helpful tip). After going down and shoving down the two stacked blocks to the left just follow the way of the earth blocks. You should enter “Speed Dig Mode”. To keep this up we have to break the sand blocks lying around. Therefore we have to stamp another two times (exact spots visible in picture).

Now we can easily see if we have been fast enough. If there is a “penalty” block in our way for the upper route we have been too slow and we have to rewind.

Otherwise just charge to the right keeping the “Speed Dig Mode” on the hunt for earth blocks. It is not important how close this is as long as you can take the upper way.

If you feel like it you can block your rival for all eternity (left picture) but you need to rewind then because he literally starts hitting on you preventing you from moving freely. If not just get to the end and win the race.

5. Conclusions

Congratulations! You have done it and now you will receive your epic prizes. The first one is the samoflange. Well you would have get it either way.

Additionally you will gain the training bracelets of your rival.

Wearing them you will shoot sparks while running fast enough! Okay it sounds a little bit cooler then it actually is but it is a nice addition. But if you are like me you have done all of this for the achievement anyway which should have popped up by now. Congratulations again!

6. Final Remarks

And here ends my second guide. I encourage you to tell me how to formulate some phrases better. I think some of them sound strange. And give me an idea for a better term then “Speed Dig Mode” …. If you find any mistakes (spelling, grammar, content) make a comment so I can correct them. Also if one of you is willing to send me a video with a succesful run using the tips i mentioned here you can send it to me so I can implement it. It seems I’m too dumb to make one myself.

So as final words:
Thank you for reading

PS: If you are bo(a)red enough (No. Boars are not boring, they are awesome, it is just a bad pun) you can check out my other guides:
