Overview
Made this guide right after I finished Akane since there wasn’t any in english except loadouts.
Overview
I created this guide after just finishing Akane because I saw none in English that weren’t simply loadouts. Feel free to comment questions or concerns.
I “beat” the game (finished all objectives) in 7 hours, I hope that’s testament enough to my reliability or skill.
This isn’t exactly a big game so there isn’t much I can help with but there are a few things that’ll make killing hundreds of virtual yakuza a little easier.
Basic Tips
To kill a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of yakuza you have to WANT it, for one. You have to build up a hatred in your heart so great that you can murder as many tattooed bastards as you want and never feel remorse. Also you need good hand eye coordination idk…
1. Play the Tutorial, it has story exposition that will matter if you seek to complete the game.
2. Turn off the meh-tier game music and put on your own, so you can vibe like hell when killin men.
3. If you have any extra buttons/macros, preferably on your mouse, bind one to e (block.) Trust me it will make your life much easier.
4. Go watch a samarai movie or something to put you in the mood, maybe even Kung Fu Panda if that’s what gets you going.
Loadout
Aight let’s get this out of the way. Skip this part if you’re a free thinker and/or don’t want a boring build.
My ideal LOADOUT is very manual and doesn’t add any extra mechanics to rely on except sword throwing.
I use…
The Cyberglove – First Gadget item you get, increases ammo from enemies. Personally I think it’s the best because it’s passive and will do the most for you because you always want more ammo.
Extended Mag – 6th Gadget you get, does what you expect. Combined with Cyberglove and a good gun like the Revolver you get a big buff to your sidearm.
Sprint – 2nd Shoes you get, tapping dash lets you run fast for a short period to cover distance. Takes you farther than all the other shoes and having to also spam right click to dash when moving through a crowd or dodging literally anything just makes the game harder and gets you killed like a BUFFOON.
Cigarettes – Obviously just preference. Don’t imitate this game, cigarettes are secretly bad for you.
Sword – Tadus, third and final sword you get. I prefer it to spinning because consistently I kill more throwing the sword into a crowd of 20 than spinning into the same crowd, maybe getting at most 10, and then possibly still being surrounded. Plus yeeting your sword is more fun than being a ballerina.
Gun – Revolver, 4th gun you get. Dunno why the game loves giving you the best gear before the last in the set but it just makes our job easier. It can reliably kill the most people with a full “mag” (12, 16 with Extended Mag) and with Cyberglove refills that ammo in just 16 katana kills. Combined with your passive ammo regen your cowboy ass is ready to westernize stupid cyber-tokyo. Even Samarai dad in the tutorial says the Revolver is the BEST.
I could give every items info and explain why they MEGA-SUCK in comparison (some being next to useless) but that’s tedious, and a little gameplay yourself will likely either just prove me right or you’ll discover which items help you become your best samarai-self and you’ll be a bigger chad because of it. Good for you, sport.
Though I do have an honorable mention:
Magnetic Detetractor, Extended Mag, Double Barrel Combo – In Skirmish10’s loadout guide he mentions being able to abuse the 3 items by firing all shots 3 shots to get enough adrenaline for Dragon Slash, which then due to the Detetractor immediately refills your three shots. I tried it myself and just didn’t like doing a gimmick over and over.
The achievements/objectives section has some info about what gadgets will help you for certain challenges as well.
Combat
You know the rules, and so do I, they’re not that complicated. There ain’t many controls but there are little interactions in mechanics easily overlooked. (For example it look me like 10 games dying to projectiles before even thinking about trying to block them instead of slashing them.)
1. You can deflect any projectiles by just blocking.
2. Avoid the edge of the map as much as possible because an enemy will absolutely take your lunch money while you’re shooting other enemies or even if they catch you walking too slow.
3. DO NOT FORGET YOUR KATANA SPECIAL MOVES OR YOUR DRAGON MOVES. USE THEM.
4. Don’t ever backtrack through or around enemies because you’ll realize the hard way one of the guys you thought you killed actually isn’t sliced in half and instead now you are, dingus.
5. Watch where you’re going, don’t get caught going around the corner of a mini-building and get slashed like a sitting duck.
6. You can, “Parry” regular enemy slashes and projectiles by clicking at the same time they swing or the projectile arrives. It’s a very small window and obviously not recommended for voluntary use because if you fail you die, when you could just block and assuredly save yourself. BUT, sometimes you might just not be able to hit E in time. Thankfully, by complete coincidence, your finger is already on left mouse, and sometimes spamming the ♥♥♥♥ out of it actually works. You get a nice SCHLING! and you’re back in business unless the back of your mind accepted your fate and you have no course of action prepared after survival at crippling odds, then you probably just die shamefully.
7. I’ve found that special enemies tend to spawn around or even at 25, 50, and 75 kills. This continues for 125, 150… etc so be wary when rapidly burning through regular yakuza cause you may just spawn 2 cyberninjas practically together and then your cheeks are really ♥♥♥♥♥♥.
8. Don’t panic, use all your arsenal, and swap methods healthily. Always emptying your mag or expending all your stamina, especially when you aren’t completely aware of your surroundings or situation (like how many bullets you have) is often the type of simple mistake that gets you killed. You don’t wanna die to a regular goon at 497 kills (500 needed in a single game for an achievement) because your gun goes click instead of bang cause you’re a daydreaming knucklehead, trust me I know.
(In order left to right)
Regular dudes – Takes one slash or one bullet to kill, nothing special. Katana included but batteries sold separately.
Beefy Bois – Called, “Tanks” ingame. Your generic ol, “Stronger, Bigger, and Slower than the rest” enemy that simply grabs you and punches you a few times if they get close enough. I find the windup to grab way too long to be any dangerous, I was only gotten once by a big boy and that was out of curiosity to see what they did. Really shouldn’t be an issue, takes 5 revolver shots or 5 slashes to kill, only becomes a problem when you have to keep up a combo.
Gunners – Will absolutely be THE most annoying ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ when you’re first starting out. Always wear suits cause they’re smug bastards; also carry a purple gun. When they’re about to fire you’ll see purple indicator lines going all four cardinal directions, then they’ll shoot thrice. You can reflect their shots to kill other enemies, or even the gunner, depending on where the bullet decides to go (sometimes off into the sunset and sometimes right back between the eyes of the shooter.) Strafe radially correctly and you don’t even have to dash to avoid the shots, or you could block, or better yet you could do both to be safe because WE AREN’T AMATEURS.
Cyber Ni***s – Finally! Other skilled swordsmen (or swordswomen?) After you kill, “The Boss” a few times these fellas can start spawning in place of Gunners or Tanks. Easy once you’ve got the hang of dealing with them, hard if you haven’t. They prepare for a moment while sending out purple indicator lines in all four diagonal directions and then dash straight for you, going through mini-buildings. It’s not a hard attack to deal with unless you’re panicking or dealing with something else and don’t notice an ugly metal humanoid dum-dum head rocketing at you at mach 7. Unless you’re standing still you or running in a straight line away from them like idiots running away from things in movies, you should be fine. Once they hit their dash distance limit they stop and take a lil break cause they’re not very fit. At this point you may either slash or shoot them, whatever is most convenient. Be reminded in any other state than panting like a ♥♥♥♥♥ they can deflect your bullets, sometimes right back between YOUR eyes. Also, don’t hug walls when they dash at you because they’ll just hit the wall and slide along it till they finish their distance, sometimes getting you unexpectedly.
THE BOSS – Also known as Katsuro, he’s a chad who was too sexy for his shirt so he turned it into pink metal, along with basically everything else. You fight him every 100 Yakuza you kill, with him leveling and gaining new abilities each fight. He can also reflect bullets back at you EXCEPT for in his stunned state.
Lvl 0/1 – All he does is dash around and every few seconds come in for a strike if you’re standing still. All you have to do is block or dodge till he strikes for the third time which will have a lightning quality to it. It’s no different than his other strikes he just wants to impress you because you’re his senpai. Then he’ll take a lil cooldown like the cyber ninjas but shorter because he has a home gym. during that period you need to either strike or shoot him (ill advised to shoot unless using smart bullets because he can reflect the first shot after he does his lightning strike despite it stunning him. You’ll likely be close to if not right in front of him so there’s a very high chance he’ll throw it right back into your face) and he’ll be pushed back a few feet stunned. Then you must slash him once more or shoot him a certain number of times depending on the gun used (2 for revolver.) He recovers quickly after both the lightning attack and the stunning so be quick if you don’t wanna repeat the process.
Lvl 2 – Same as before but he has a chance to whip out a gun of his own in between slashes and fire three shots. Your block lasts long enough to deflect all three, you can hide behind mini-buildings, or you can even just walk strafe if far enough away, it really doesn’t make the fight harder.
Lvl 3 to Max – Same two abilities as before but now he may charge up a moment and then dash at you three times. Each time you dodge he keeps going a little and then pivots on a dime to come at your new position. I haven’t perfected any specific method for this but you just gotta side dodge him three times. Moving towards where he came from when he starts each dash is helpful to give you more distance between where he ends his current dash meaning more time to clench your cheeks and pray.
Achievements/Challenges
I won’t be going over all of them because most are very self explanatory, but certain gadgets and tactics will make some of these frustrating ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ a bit easier.
Katana accuracy challenges – Use gun as much as possible and obvi don’t go charging into crowds and swinging wildly because one miss and you have to start over. For some reason I had to use Smart Bullets for 201 kill challenge because I’d get there, recalling not missing a single swing, and yet wouldn’t get the achievement. I suspect that maybe the hit it takes to stun “The Boss” counts as a miss because it doesn’t kill any or do damage.
Deflect challenges – Man I hated these. Equip the stabilizer bracelet to double your chances of hitting someone with a deflect, wait for a gunner to spawn and deflect till you’ve killed enough other yakuza. I pity you when the eventual reflect hits the gunner you still need.
Katana Special Move challenges – Took me a few games to realize it didn’t mean your dragon moves. It’s talking about spinning or throwing your Katana. These challenges are just hard because other than the one that simply requires 50 special move kills, you have to kill enemies with special moves likely when you’re pressed for time, whether it be before your combo ends or before your enemy recovers from vulnerability. You can charge the spinning special move and then block in order to get the special move kill on THE BOSS.
Boldness Challenges – You get (+1) Boldness from shooting enemies (doesn’t have to kill them), killing special enemies (+25), or killing with special attacks (+3) and since the smg and inquisitor shotgun take 2 shots/pellets to kill, they are much better for getting Boldness than the other guns. THE BOSS also counts as a special enemy.
Max Combo challenges – Don’t drop it like it’s hot! Be careful between transitions after killing THE BOSS and after performing Dragon Slayer: make sure you have an enemy somewhere or are able to find one quickly. Always having a plan and choosing your next target quickly are both very important. Also pray you get as few tanks as possible.
After completing all challenges you unlock more exposition that requires the tutorial to understand.
