Gold Digging – A guide for easy gold farming

Overview

Dispite what the title says, you’re not going to be digging for gold in Dungeon Defenders 2. But it is a guide to farm easy gold. So if you read this guide and do what it says, you’ll multiply your gold per battle by at least 10.

Preparing for the gold farming

So before you can get to the gold farming, there’s a few things you need: 56000 gold and a medium sphere. Well the 56k gold is for the sphere, but it is a necessary investment if you want to get a lot of gold. You want to buy this particular sphere:
You get the sphere at the Gran Master (like most spheres) and as it says in the description, you now have a 15% chance of enemies to drop 100 additional gold when killed by a hero. By equiping this sphere you give up on another medium sphere, but when you’re bankrupt (like I’ve been a couple of times), that isn’t very important. Once this is done, move to the next step.

Note: You don’t have to equip the More Gold Picked Up sphere, it doesn’t affect the gold you get from this.

Where to farm?

Now that you have your sphere, you want to select a map where you can fight a lot of enemies, as that will give you the most gold. Here are my two Favorites:

Crossroad Incursion
The easiest incursion available with lots of mobs in total, this is a optimal map for farming gold. But it can be hard for less experienced players to solo (which I do not recommend in this situation, more on that later). I haven’t tried other incursions yet, but if they have a high mob count, then go for it.

Onslaught
Yeah that’s right. You can get loads of gold from the mode that’s only used for getting golden pets. But this mode is more unreliable as a gold farming method because you get random rounds. Here, you are looking for a specific round, the Horde ones. Since Onslaught rounds will last for three turns, the total mob count can be well over 2000. But you might also end getting a Kobold round. Or a Drakin round. I won’t recommend using this for farming because you are not guaranted a Horde round.

Now I’ll return to the thing I talked about in the Incursion part. It’s a good idea to play with other players for one reason:
The more the merrier RICHER
The best thing about the Hero Gold Sphere is that you not only get gold when YOU kill something, but you also get gold when your TEAMMATES kill something! That’s a 4x multiplier on your gold production!

Here’s an recent example with me (no pictures, sadly): I did the Crossroad Incursion five times with three other teammates. After those five rounds, I had nearly made 100k gold.

Additional tips and ways to increase your gold production

This section is mostly for tips and other ways to increase the gold you get per battle. If you happen to have a tip that isn’t here, feel free to let me know in the comment section and I’ll put the tip here with your name next to it.

  • Get the Jackpot passive: The Jackpot passive will give you a small percentage to multiply the gold you collect by four. Although a small benefit with a single Jackpot stat, it can tremendously increase your gold per battle if you have a lot of them. The max value for the Jackpot passive is 105%, but that is only achieveable with the Squire

  • Take off your pet: If you REALLY need that extra gold you can take off your pet, because pets don’t count as heroes and will therefore not give you a chance to get more gold when they kill an enemy. Therefore you have to make up your mind if you want better stats or more gold.

  • Splody Harpoons(?) Apparently the damage from the Splody Harpoon will enable that tower to make enemies drop the 100 gold. This is a bug, so it’ll likely be removed in the future but feel free to use it for now.

  • Sell eggs and boxes At some point you’ll reach a point where you have good, high-level pets for your characters, so boxes and eggs won’t be that necessary anymore. Sell them! They give 250 gold each, which can be a big bunch of money if you have a bag full. Also, open pet food boxes. There is no downside to this as the most common pet food (the fish) will also give you 250 gold, same as the box. You might end up getting rare and exquisite pet food, which is worth a lot more
    (My own tip)

Afterwords

Well, that’s it. A sphere, some friends and a lot of enemies and you’re good to go.
I hoped that this guide helped you out of DD2 bankruptcy
