Overview
Simple tips and tricks to appease those who can be easily annoyed. Look at these if you are getting kicked for no reason. (NOT a gameplay guide).
Lobby tips
Don’t spam the gravity recalculation button, it is annoying and makes it hard to move around.
If you can, always enter the pod when you are ready. Many hosts judge when to start the mission based on how many people are in the pod. On the other end, make sure you hosts don’t start the mission when people are still upgrading equipment.
Don’t gorge yourself on beer before a mission, not just because it spends your credits, but because drunkenness DOES carry over into a mission and it IS very annoying (and difficult) to play with.
Try not to pick a class that someone else already is. Many hosts enforce duplicate restrictions, but the lock does not apply in the rig, so try and respect the host’s wishes. You will usually do better with 1 of each class, and playing all the classes can make you a better team player.
Tips for all
Don’t spam the marker, it is annoying to everyone else. Use text chat instead if people are not listening.
Don’t just run blindly into a new cave unless you are TRYING to be leech bait.
Don’t mark an ore or collectible if you plan to gather it immediately after.
Never, EVER call a supply pod when you have not asked permission, and never, EVER take more than one ammo rack unless you ask permission AND get an ok (or there are less than three players in the mission). This is probably the #2 etiquette rule of DRG.
Make sure you keep up with the team, but don’t get too far ahead! also, Go back and help stragglers catch up to the party. If you are lost or think there might be things you missed, say so.
DO NOT end the mission before getting the ok from everyone. Missing out on rare resources because the pod called early is very infuriating. Just because you hit quota doesn’t mean the mission is done. People typically go to the last cave to check for cargo crates, extra crafting minerals and gold, machine events, and other rare things that would be painful to miss out on. This is the #1 etiquette rule of DRG right here.
Mining every polygon of ore in the cave is not necessary. In fact, the bonuses for surpassing quotas are minimal. You get 1 exp for each mineral mined. This does not mean you should not mine extras if you have nothing better to do, but don’t hold up the team by going for that Morkite deposit on the wall that nobody needs. Note that this does not apply to Nitra, which is always in demand.
Don’t join high difficulty missions (has 4 and 5) until you know for absolute certain you are 100% ready for the challenge they pose. Haz5 is called LETHAL for a reason. If you are good at shooters and find the high hazards easy, but are still getting kicked, chances are the host you are joining doesn’t believe in your skill and doesn’t want to risk it, in which case there is really nothing to do but host your own games on these hazards. #3 etiquette rule of DRG. The jump between 3 and 4 is much more noticable than the jump between 1 and 2, or 2 and 3.
Basically, it goes like this:
Haz1 is a walk in the park. You might see 20 bugs total in the entire mission.
Haz2 is a good entry level for those new to shooters. Bosco (the drone) can handle most enemies and swarms are around 30 bugs max.
Haz3 is a good entry level for those who are experienced with shooters. Swarms top 100 bugs (not counting swarmers).
Haz4 is tough. If you are good at shooters you might find it easy, but entering on Haz3 is still recommended because of the unique mechanics in DRG that should take some getting used to
Haz5 is a nightmare purely meant for pros looking to challenge themselves. Do not expect to win Haz5 games.
Be sure to use everything in your arsenal, even if you are afraid of wasting it. If you never use it, then it is absolutely wasted. Scout, remember your flares. Driller, remember your drills, Gunner, remember your shield, and engineer, remember your platforms.
Don’t use the quick join feature. It seems so convenient, but it will often put you in games that otherwise have some requirement listed in the server name that you can’t see when using quick join. It’s better to just look at the full server browser and pick something that looks good. Preferably something towards the top, since the list is sorted by ping (connection strength).
Driller tips
Don’t try and use your drills for mining resources. It doesn’t work. You can mine the rock behind the minerals to break it, but it’s generally faster to mine with the pickax unless you are mining a large gold vein.
Use satchel charges for blowing holes in Glyphids, not walls. A satchel can kill several Praetorians at once, but since you only have 3 (and you only get 1 per resupply). It is a waste to try and mine with them.
Drills are not melee weapons. Trying to kill glyphids with the drills is a waste of fuel (albeit satisfying in a gruesome way).
Be very careful when detonating satchel charges. They can and will kill other dwarves inside of the blast radius instantly. Gunner is partially immune, but it still hurts.
Engineer tips
When you enter a new room, look out for resources on walls and place a platform under them. If a scout marks a resource, look around to see if it needs a platform. You have plenty of platforms, so do not be afraid of using them.
Always deploy your turrets when a swarm is announced. the extra firepower really makes a difference.
Watch out for friendly fire with your grenade launcher, that thing HURTS.
Gunner tips
Your minigun has an extremely high firepower. Try not to aim at your friends. Same for the revolver.
you can throw the shield generators further than you might think. hurl one at a friend if they are about to get mobbed. Also, try and use it to prevent death, rather than a tool to revive dead players.
be sure to use the zipline gratuitously on point extract missions, anywhere far away of lower down/higher up. riding a zipline is faster than carrying the aquarqs back on foot. Ziplines are probably the best movement tool for long distances.
Scout tips
Keep an eye out for the engineer shooting platforms and marking resources. You will often be the only one capable of reaching those platforms.
If you land on someone’s head, you will not take fall damage unless the bounce sends you too high. Try and land on your friends! They will like you better than if you make them come revive you.
The grapple gun has unlimited ammo. Use it as much as possible, but don’t leave your team behind.
You can reach dead bodies much faster than others. People will often be expecting you to go revive people.
Be careful with your flare gun! Don’t use it to light up a tunnel, but please, PLEASE actually USE it in large caves BEFORE you are doing a last check to make sure you got everything. And don’t aim at your friends! The flare gun actually does damage, and if you hit your friends the flare will fall to the ground and not emit any light.
