Overview
Hello and welcome to this simple guide for my personal favourite, The Thunder light torpedo clipper.
Introduction
What so special about the Thunder?
The Thunder is a tier one light torpedo clipper, extreme mobility, abilities which allow you to move into position to ambush ships and the absurd burst damage of the main cannons make it a fearful ship hunter. However its mobilty is only match by how fragile the Thunder is and lack any other high damaging weapon or offensive abilities.
What should I upgrade on the Thunder?
Mobility and firepower, they are your best friends and they will scared the hell outta unprepared players, Carry your smoking rear outta a unlikeable clash between ships and runs circle around frigates, cruisers, galleons and battleships.
Get the acceleration ability, you will need it and then reseach the duplet heavy cannons for leaving a nasty markings on Rocks and Gales . Then get engine upgrade for increase mobility and then work your way towards the Link Light volley cannons, they will allow you to poke at ships at range while your main cannons are cooling down. Then get the improve helm, increasing turn speed which is important for lining up for the killing blow or escaping a successful/unsuccessful kill.
Finally get the hull and shields upgrade and you should be able to unlock the third ability slot and the next ship on the tier tree, then get the pulsar
In-depth look
Can you describe more about the abilities of the Thunder
The Thunder has a bonus which when moving at high speed, reduces incoming damage depending on the speed, this is extremely important because your very fragile and if you halt or slow down in a middle of a fight then your chances of not exploding decreases.
The Thunder‘s starting ability is Mystical haze, this is a great ability for playing a rear munching hunter ship, when active the ship is covered in a mist which decrease the chances for it to be detected, however your not completely invisible and getting too close to a enemy will allow them to see you. The ability ends when you attack, use another ability or get damaged, try to use this ability for closing in a distracted ship or damaged ship and when your in range of your main cannons, fire and retreat.
Acceleration is a reseachable ability, and it is the most important ability for the Thunder as it allows you to outrun almost any ship, this stacks with your bonus passive, making a useful engagement and escaping tool. use it with haze at the start of the game to get into position quickly or rush towards a point.
Pulsar is another reseachable ability which upon using will fire a missile to the targeted unit, upon impact the missile will deal small damage and slowing the target by 70%. This is great for ships like Victoria and other Thunders . It more of a supporting tool for your allies, slowing down ships and then allow your allies to bombard them.
Repair is the final reseachable ability while not as useful as the other three it should only replace another abillity when you want to play a more active role, restoring 25% of hull and then heal 50% of the hull over 7 seconds.
In-game Role
What role does the Thunder play in the game modes
During game modes like payload and treasure hunt, you should focus on objectives because winning the game is more important then getting kills, you can easily hunt down treasure carriers and steal the loot and quickly get out of harm way. while in payload your main cannons should always be used on the payload, landing both of your torpedo on a fresh payload will greatly assist your team into destroying it.
What happens if i am unable to do any objectives?
The Thunder should play as a offensive role, looking for weak targets and unleashing hell upon them, if you notice that a tanky ship like a Rock is been attacked by your allies, your main cannons is capable of knock out it’s shields and deal damage to the hull, allow them to finish it off, Recommended targets for the Thunder are the Vilgilant and Victoria. The Vilgilant are slow but tanky enough survive a salvo of the Thunder’s main cannons, hopefully that you have a ally nearby to assist, you may not see it but Victorias are a critcal targets because how they can quickly heal up them, but due to they low damage output you can 1v1 one if you play correctly.
But be careful, the Vilgilant can slow you, reducing your bonus and making it easier for it to fire you with it main and side cannons. it is highly recommend you attack from the rear as it has the slowest turn speed in tier one.
What about counters for the Thunder?
While the Thunder is a fearsome little ship it can easily be destroyed, Gales can survive two hits from the main cannons and its side cannons will punish the Thunder if getting too close, Slowing down a Thunder will lead to a easy kill, The Gale, Vilgilant and other Thunders are the only ships that able to slow down Thunders. Stay in open spaces, a Thunder can easily go around cover and ambush you, if you can fight a Thunder out in the open then you can easily track it down and destroy it. A missile heavy Trainee can easily cripple a Thunder with a single barrage.
Conclusion
In conclusion
The Thunder is a fright to enemies who are unprepared, but just like all other ships it does have it weaknesses and so you must know your weakness and avoid them, if you are able to complete objectives and play your role correctly then you will truly become the Supreme pirate of the skies.
