Old Pier: Getting Straight to Business.
Hi, everyone. In this short guide we will try to understand how to approach Stage 4 as Axel given his limitations and relatively low mobility.
Axel Stone is known for his low mobility and that often makes players disregard his potential. Indeed, Axel is a close-range combatant only. He can’t do much, but the little he can he does exceptionally well. Here we will take a look at arguably the most difficult stage for Axel – Old Pier.

Memorizing the stage in this particular case is crucial.
Step #1
At the begining of the Stage go to the right side of the screen, deal some damage to Ruby, then grab and throw her to the other girls when they are about to jump. Quiclky jump kick to them, jump kick one and walk away from the other as soon as you land. Usually this does the trick since they always behave the same-ish should you give them a certain set up.
Step #2
The second screen. First you need to get rid of the ‘Bat Donovans’ that might send you straight into the pit with a single swing. Don’t kill them, we don’t have that much time to spare. Try to throw away your enemies to the pit and then jump kick them just to make sure they cooperate with you on that one. You might want to use air special after you’re done with the ‘throwing part’ to send a big crowd of baddies into the pit at once and finish it off with a neutral special. Just to be safe. You don’t want to fight all of the baddies like you usually do on stage one. Make use of those pits as much as possible.
Step #3
Between the pits. Just position yourself in the middle and do the neutral jump kick to send all of them at once into the pit.
Step #4
Before the taser cops (two barrel section). Memorization is key here. First you’ve got Donovans jumping out of the pit. Time it just right (when a Donovan that is higher than those who’re jumping out of the pit comes) and jump kick them into the pit. Then you’ve got a second wave of Donovans jumping out of the pit – jump kick them again into the pit. When you kill the Donovans and Galsias the purple one appears. Grab her as soon as you can and wait for the others to appear to throw her into the crowd -> all of them fall into the pit.
Finally, Step #5
The taser cop section. If you are not going after your score, utilize game mechanics to its max. Don’t rush B. Open the barrels with food beforehand by throwing your weapon off-screen. Take any weapon. Before moving the screen to trigger the cutscene, throw a weapon and then proceed to move to trigger it. You’ll see how your weapon succefully reaches the destination and the shield cops drop their batons as the cutscene plays out. Good.
Now we need to wait till other enemies start to appear. As soon as they do – throw them into the taser cops. They will eventually start fighting and that’s all you need. Throw as many enemies at them as possible to distract them from you and do your job in the meantime.
This is it. Not that difficult, is it? I know it is, but the more you play, the easier it gets, so don’t be afraid to experiment with this formula.
