Guide to all leviathan class lifeforms

Overview

In this guide, i’ll be talking about each leviathan in the game, and describing what they do, how they behave, where they can be found, etc…Enjoy!Below zero edition: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2491021845

Land-dwellers

In this section, we’ll be talking about the Sea Treader, as it is the only land-dweller leviathan in the game.

The Sea Treader leviathan is the only defensive leviathan in the game, meaning that it will only attack if you do a certain thing, in the Sea Treader’s case, it will attack you if you get in front of it. It can be found in the Grand Reef, and Sea Treader’s Path, materials such as shale and other things may spawn behind it as it walks. It has 2 large antennae, possible for sensing nearby creatures as it may have poor eyesight. It is Herbivorous but it is unknown what they feed on, perhaps plankton.
BEHAVIOUR:
The Sea Treader will walk in a predesignated path alongside others of it’s species, it is unknown why they do this. It will occasionally poo (No i am not joking). The poo can be picked up by the player and used as biofuel. It is Cathemeral meaning it is active both during the day and at night.
STATS:
It has 3000 health and both it’s attacks (The kick and the stomp) will deal 40 damage to the player. It is approximately 20 x 20 x 20 meters in size (20m cubed), making it (technically) the smallest leviathan in the game.
DEBUGID:
seatreader
ASSESSEMENT:
Partially safe, avoid going in front of it.

Herbivores

Here i’ll be covering the herbivorous leviathans.

Reefback/Reefback Juvenile

The Reefback is a large passive leviathan with an ecosystem on it’s back, (Juveniles have no ecosystems on their backs though.) it can be found in many different biomes, such as the Bulb zone, the Crag field, the Dunes, the Grassy plateaus, the Mushroom forest, the Sparse reef, and finally, the Underwater islands. It will never leave it’s home biome and cannot be attacked by other creatures, it has barnacles growing on it’s back and many different plants, Tiger plants can be found on it, Tiger plants are aggressive and will shoot their spikes at the player. It is Cathemeral.
BEHAVIOUR:
It will usually move around back and forth in a line but won’t really move away from that line, it will stick close to the juveniles and never leave them.
STATS:
It has 10,000 health and cannot attack the player as it is passive.
DEBUGID:
reefback
reefbackbaby
ASSESSEMENT:
Exploring their backs is highly advised as you may find resources, but watch out for potential Tiger
plants growing on their backs.

WARNING: SPOILERS!!!! SKIP TO THE CARNIVORES IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE SPOILED.
Sea emperor

The Sea emperor leviathan is a large passive leviathan found in the aquarium part of the Primary containment facility in the Lava Zone. It can communicate with the player and seems to be very gentle, it seems to feed primarily on plankton and seems to have trained peepers to bring enzyme 42 all around 4546B. It is Cathemeral.
BEHAVIOUR:
It will greet the player when it enters the aquarium and it will swim around in circles for a while before sitting down and telling you to help it hatch it’s eggs. It will interact with it’s children once they hatch, before dying later on once their children are in the wild.
STATS:
It is unkillable and it is 160-200 meters long, it will not attack the player as it is passive. It is 2600 years old.
DEBUGID:
Cannot be spawned, can be teleported to by using the “goto aquarium” command.
ASSESSEMENT:
Imperative to the story.

Sea emperor juvenile

Just a baby of a Sea emperor, it is 1,5 meters long and can be seen burping before regurgitating enzyme 42, which is the cure for Kharaa.

Carnivores

Here, i’ll cover carnivores.

Reaper leviathan

The Reaper leviathan is a massive and terrifying creature, it has four distinctive “grabbers”/mandibles
on the side of it’s head which it uses to grasp it’s prey. It can be seen occasionally eating other fish and can be temporarily tamed if fed a peeper. It is located in the Crash zone, the Dunes, and the Mountains. It is Cathemeral.
BEHAVIOUR:
It will scream alot in an attempt to find the player, if you can hear it, it knows you’re there…
It will rarely follow the player when it leaves the biome the reaper is in, if it sees a Seamoth it will grab it and shake it around while screaming at it before letting it go, they are attracted by noise which is presumably why they are in the Crash zone in the first place.
STATS:
It has 5000 health and deals 80 damage to the player, if the player is under 80 health then it will play the following animation:
[link]

It is 55 meters in length.
DEBUGID:
reaperleviathan
ASSESSEMENT:
Avoid at all costs if possible. This creature cannot really be avoided if you are in one of it’s home biomes.

Ghost leviathan

The Ghost leviathan is a large translucent creature with many bioluminescent parts. It can be found in the Grand reef, the Void, the Lost river, and the Northern blood kelp zone. It has a deafening screech which it presumably uses to scare any possible prey, it is known to feed on plankton and it moves fairly slowly, but will charge to attack. It is Cathemeral.
BEHAVIOUR:
It will usually stick to the top of the Lost river or go as high as it really can in the biome it’s in, it is unknown why but it does this, Ghost leviathans are highly territorial and will only attack if you enter their home biome. They will not follow you out of their home biome.
They are more likely to attack the Seamoth and the Cyclops than the Prawn.
STATS:
It has 8000 health, the adults that live in the Void deal 84 damage to the player, 42 to the Seamoth,
14 to the Prawn suit, and 250 to the Cyclops. The juveniles do slightly less damage. It is 107 meters long and the juveniles are 67 meters long.
DEBUGID:
ghostleviathan
ghostleviathanjuvenile
ASSESSEMENT:
Avoid at all costs, highly lethal and territorial, will not stop attacking until you leave their general vicinity, Can be “avoided” by using the Prawn.

Sea dragon

The Sea dragon leviathan is the biggest carnivorous leviathan in the game, and is highly dangerous. It has two distinctive antennae on the tip of it’s snout and long tentacles at the bottom of it’s body, it has bioluminescent spots on it and massive teeth, it feeds on reaper leviathans which it drags down into the lava zone. It is found in the Inactive lava zone and the Lava lakes. There are only 3 of them left, and it is a Cathemeral animal.
BEHAVIOUR:
The Sea dragon will usually stick close to walls and the ceiling, it will ocasionally go deeper down to attack the player in their prawn, or it will spit fireballs at the player. It is apparantely very sensitive to noise as the precursors have build towers that make a noise unbearable to the sea dragon to stop it attacking the Primary containment facility.
STATS:
It has 5000 health, It will instantly kill the player if it bites it and deal 10-20 damage to the Prawn if it bites it. It’s swat attack deals 40 damage to the player and 10-20 to the Prawn, and it’s fire breath deals 20 damage, and it’s meteor deals 80. It is 112 meters long.
DEBUGID:
seadragon
ASSESSEMENT:
Incredibly deadly, avoid at all costs, can be “avoided” by using the Prawn.

Deceased leviathans

Here we’ll be talking about the plethera of remains you can find in this game.
WARNING: SPOILERS

Research specimen theta

Research specimen theta is a small approximately 22m long leviathan. It’s remains are found in the Disease research facility and it is unknown what it fed on. (Presumably schools of fish or plants.) It may have been found in a biome such as the dunes. It was used by the precursors to try and find the cure to the Kharaa, but they were unsucessful. It seems as if it died to a blow to both sides of the abdomen but this may be a result of decomposition.

Titan leviathan/Ancient skull

The Titan leviathan is a huge leviathan found in the Lost river laboratory cache, it seems to be either a burrowing creature or a shark-like creature.

Here’s some fanart of what it might have looked like:

It is a presumably carnivorous creature that most likely lived in the void and feasted on Ghost leviathans, considering it is 90-100 meters long. It is unknown how it died but it may have been killed after it ventured too far in the lost river and got stuck, or maybe the crater erupted killing it and the other huge leviathans wandering in an open area which is now known as the Lost river, who knows?…

Gargantuan/Imperator leviathan

This GIGANTIC leviathan is found in the Lost river near a Ghost leviathan juvenile. It seems to be a snake like creature that probably fed on Titan leviathans. The skeleton you can find is 900 meters long, pretty big right? Yeah, we’ll that’s only a third of the skeleton, meaning it used to be a whopping 2700 METERS LONG! It is unknown how this died.

Here’s some fanart of what it might have looked like:

I will not be covering the other skeleton you can find, as it is just a Sea dragon.
