nGlide

You need to install one other piece of software called nGlide. This is a sofware that will emulate a 1995-2000 Voodoo graphics card. However, if you are feeling nostalgic, and using Half-Life Alpha 0.52 on a Windows 95 or 98 PC with Voodoo graphics card, you don’t need nGlide. Open nGlide and choose the resolution you want to play on and then exit the application and your good to go.

And the future of Alpha/Beta?

Right now, there are some teams that are working on mods for Half-Life that will bring back Alpha/Beta experience. Some of the mods are already here, or they are in demo. But I will show you the popular one.

SHAFT is a modification from “Freeze! Team”. Freeze team is currently working on diffirent project, but they will soon head back to the SHAFT, and they will try to finish it. You can support them, if you have good experience with SDK. The mod is about bring back Alpha/Beta experience, and with concept arts that have been canceled and didnt make it into final version. They are also trying to make maps that are really compared to the ones from Alpha.

Same with SHAFT, it will bring back Alpha/Beta experience, but with lot of advanced options. You can now download demo. I really dont know what developer is actually doing now, but we will soon find out.

Same with the one I mentioned here. Its in final version, and developer is currently tired and he decided to rest. But creator will work on it soon again.

Half-Life Version One (or Half-Life Classic) brings back all the old features that Valve removed. These features were availible until version 1.1.1.0 (2000). These features are from the earliest CD version, which is 1.0.0.5 (1998)

Anoter mod that will bring back the alpha experience. Dont know whats with the creator right now, lets hope this mod will also meet one time the light of life.
