TY the Tasmanian Tiger Guide

Hardcore Mode Tips for TY the Tasmanian Tiger

Hardcore Mode Tips

Overview

This guide will cover basic tips to help you achieve a successful hardcore run of the game.

Foreword

Hello, my name is Lampyro and I like Ty the Tasmanian Tiger. I’ve loved this series since I’ve played it on the PS2 back in the early 2000s. I created this guide for helping you get through hardcore mode a little easier using these tips. If you have any tips that you didn’t see in this guide, leave a comment down below and i’ll add it in and credit you in the credits. This is my first guide, any criticism is welcome and I will try to improve!

The hardest parts

How do you even die in this game?

There’s a few parts in my opinion that can really mess up your run through hardcore mode.

1. The coconut quicksand section in Ship Rex
If you fall into the quicksand, you’re basically a goner. Mashing the stick back and forth really doesn’t help that much unless you’re near the edge of the quicksand (edge near the start of a jump not the sides, the sides may look safe but they’re not).

2. Fluffy
The first two bosses in this game are fairly simple; Hog and Shark are easy to defeat once you understand how to beat them. Fluffy I feel is really unfair. Even if you don’t change directions while moving, sometimes she’ll still hit you. This boss can really make or break runs, and it’s literally the last boss before…

3. Cass Pass and Crest
This section is pretty hard, with the mini-boss Shadow and then the giant Cass robot. It’s meant to be a challenge of course but sometimes can be frustrating.

4. Time Trial slides
The time trials that require you to race down the waterfall slides can be tricky on certain turns. Watch carefully for the branches, and if you’re at 1/4 health and not even half way it’s safer to quit out than to die.

5. Razorback Bull
If you’re not able to get behind a pillar in time, it’s very hard to dodge the Razorback Bull’s charge. Once again, if you find yourself at low health, quit out and try again.

6. Sly fight
Sly’s rangs can have pretty annoying tracking, combined with his erratic movement it can be an annoying boss fight. As for a strategy for this, if you’ve been collecting every golden cog up to this point, you should have the Multirang by now. I recommend just spamming it on him to put him in a bit of a stun lock.

7. Boiler
In the same level as Sly, there’s a boiler room where Lenny tells you to heat the boiler up. DO NOT DO THIS. If you’ve been paying attention to the level, you do the opposite of everything Lenny says. Freeze the boiler instead.

Getting health from diving

A Useful Trick

If you’re in a level with water and you’ve taken a hit or two, dive down in the water and then resurface to regain full health.

Rainbow Scales

Get two paws of health!

There are a few guides on here about where to find these rainbow scales. Collecting all of them and returning to the Bunyip Elder at the Talisman Rock will award you with another health paw. The last two can only be accessed once you have the zappy rang. Having more health can help you get through Cass Pass/Crest with ease.

Quitting out on low health

You’re not a coward, you’ll live to fight another day

If you’re really low on health, just quit out of the game. It is better to lose only a levels-worth of progress than to lose it all and take a risk.

Copying your save file

If you really want to be cheap about it…

If you’re interested in keeping a copy of the Hardcore save file (even though it kind of defeats the purpose of running Hardcore), you can find the save file through this path on your computer:

C:Program Files (x86)Steamuserdata**numbers**411960remote

Back it up onto a thumb/hard drive and if you die, you can restore it at the latest time it saved. Usually, the hardcore file only saves at the start or end of a level, but there is a way to manipulate it to save more than those times (not sure if they patched it out or not)

End and Credits

This guide is a WIP. I will update it with information I obtain through running the game or comments down below. If someone thinks of more tips I will add them in and credit the user here. I will also try to capture some footage to turn into gifs for the sections of this guide.

Thank you for reading the guide, and I hope your Hardcore run goes well!
