Overview
This is a set of player-made rules for the story mode, it focuses on a stealthy and semi-passive approach for seasoned players to attempt.
The Rules
This set of rules focuses on beating the story mode without directly attacking enemies, a few exceptions apply.
Starting gear:
You must begin your playthrough with 0-50 volts, a full explorer hull and a hack device, nothing more. Obtain your items through cheats or previous playthroughs. You can use any items or hulls you pick-up during this playthrough, so long as you follow these rules:
What are the rules?
- Do not attack enemies unless you are currently controlling a hacked character.
- Your allies and pets can fight for you, but you cannot attack while riding them.
- If you break the above rules, pause and restart from checkpoint.
- Do not use your ship’s storage shelves unless you are grabbing the starter equipment.
What counts as an attack?
An attack is the player using deflections, redirections, melee, ranged, throwables, physics, or kicking to deal damage.
What counts as an enemy?
An enemy is any character who doesn’t fight for you, here’s a list of less obvious enemies:
- Rocket City drunks
- Mycelians (when not charmed)
- Shopkeepers and shoppers
- Cameras, lasers, microphones, traps and sentries
- ETAC Sparks
I want to tame an animal, can I kick it?
Yes, you can kick tamable animals if you don’t kill them.
How to Enable Cheats
If you wish to participate in this challenge but do not have the required items in your ship, the quickest way to obtain them is through cheats. Enabling cheats will not allow you to save your progress, so keep that in mind. You can enable cheats by pausing the game, selecting “Profile” and then typing CCDDCC or XXYYXX(?) on a controller. Once cheats are enabled, you can either give yourself the the hull and hack device manually, or unlock all blueprints and grab them from your ship.
Tips and Tricks
These are some general tips and tricks you can apply to most story chapters. For more in-depth strategies specific to certain chapters, see the next guide section.
- Grabbing on a wall allows you to cloak and hack at the same time.
- Enemies can be pushed off screen into neighboring stages.
- Rolling after a long fall won’t disturb nearby enemies as much as landing on your feet.
- Flashbangs undisguise hacked characters.
- Use guns and throwables to distract enemies blocking your path.
- Sometimes your Hack Device will target something offscreen upon entering a new stage. Wait to hack until your device is targeting an actual character to prevent a game crash!
Basic Story Walkthrough
This is a basic walkthrough covering any sections you might find difficult in the story mode. Some simple tricks will only be mentioned once or twice, assuming you catch-on quickly. If you wish to speedrun the story mode, this walkthrough is not the quickest way through it.
