What is a hat? It goes on your head, of course! It also describes which team you are within the match! Just so long as teams are on. Otherwise, wearing another duck’s hat would be rude, sir.

Default Hats

To put it simply, welcome! This is just the section where I’m going to describe the hats you’ve unlocked, just for being a customer! If you feel this is unimportant, skip right ahead.

Equipable Hats

How about a quick look at hats which are mainly used for gameplay?

The helmet is a simple pickup in-game. You grab it, and wear it. It can protect from one bullet, and being crushed. When a helmet is crushed once, it will not break, but it will get a dent!

This gun, when picked up, can be used to control other ducks. If you are not wearing a hat, the Mind Control Helmet will be added until you lose the gun.

Are you a conspiracy theorist? With this, you might be! This hat will prevent the Mind Control Gun from working on you. It only appears in one leve, and actually looks more like a paper hat then a tinfoil hat.

Unlockable Hats

Pretty much the main section of the guide! So why did I include the other sections? Filler? Probably. It added content for what could honestly be posted in the Steam Discussions section!

These hats are more of an obvious unlock. They all belong to Hat Pack 1. Where do you get Hat Pack 1? At the arcade! Save up those tickets!

These hats aren’t AS obvious, saying you need to purchase more stuff to see it, but how do you get them? Hat Pack 2! Have fun!

A more realistic looking style of a duck, this hat can be gotten by quacking 1000 times! Tedious, but easy!

A little creepy of a hat, this hat is actually the unused weight ball, with a face on it! To unlock it, crush 50 ducks. I advise you go to one of the Grapple Hook challenges which allows crushing ducks, and stomp on some “ducks” for a while. They may be fake, but they count.

The spooky scary duck hat, can be unlocked in such a way. You kill 1000 ducks and laugh all day in your spooky scary day.

Unless you’ve been avoiding multiplayer, you should already have this. Play one match. That’s it. At the end, you should see a scene where there are podiums for ducks to stand upon, and one has a trophy. If you’re at that scene, just wait until the next match, and leave. You should have the hat now. This hat is actually a character from the developer’s friend’s game, Burrito Galaxy. Neat.

Quite a cool duck, just shoot 500 lasers, and he’s yours. I believe the lower set of sprites is used when he gets hit with an object thrown at him, but I’m not too sure.

To unlock NASA’s favorite hat, just burn 20 gallons of jet fuel. This can go in two ways (Sorry, if someone could confirm one or the other, please do so, for I don’t remember!).

1. Use the jetpack a lot, or…

2. There are barrels of fuel. They are bright yellow. Shoot them once to release fuel, and shoot them a few more times. The sparks from a gun should light it on fire.

Bro, just strafe 10 kilometers….How much is 10 kilometers? No clue. On the keyboard, this is the B button. Just hold it while walking everywhere, and when a match is finally over, use the end time, where the lucky duckies are taunting their trophy, to moonwalk across the rockball field!

What a weird glove. To unlock it, you must disarm 100 ducks. How? When a duck is holding an item, you can throw another item at them to force them to drop it. They will either do a high pitch quack, or a censored quack, as if they swore.

To get this hat, you must participate in FIFTY matches. That means from the beginning to the trophy scene. You can make this easier by being the host of the server, and setting the required wins from ten to five. You can also speed things up by allowing all players to be forced into teams. Online, this hat quacks normally, but in singleplayer/local multiplayer, this hat lets out green gas and fart noises. How mature…

Now THIS is an Easter Egg. Win 10 5 times as Swack!…What an odd requirement. Better get hunting!

He’s the champion of the arcade, and in order to play as him, you will have to be too. You must Platinum EVERY SINGLE CHALLENGE to be able to afford Chancy’s hat. Good luck. If you really wish, you can skip five Platinum medals and have Gold medals in place, but you must not buy the Start With Helmet or Start With Shoes modifiers.

Are you insane? Yes? Did you think Chancy’s hat was easy? YES? ARE YOU SOME SORT OF SPEEDRUNNER? THEN THIS IS THE HAT FOR YOU! You must go one step further from Platinum, and get the DEV MEDALS! ALL OF THEM! This hat also comes with a cool red cape. Neat.

Three nice hats, for Halloween! Seems you can get them just by playing the game, for now? Not too sure on this one, it may be gone after Halloween. Will update once more info comes. In the meantime, we’ve got a wonderful melting pumpkin, a classic witch hat, and A FRIDGE. A BEAUTIFUL FRIDGE, TOO! If you hold a quack long enough with the fridge, when you stop quacking the fridge will make a subtle squeak as it closes!

Make 25 angle trick shots to receive this magical man! You are able to reach angles whenever you turn around in the air, while holding a gun, and shooting at the right time. It’s also rumored that you may or may not have to kill ducks while doing so, and that you can simply stand infront of a wall to angle your gun straight up to count.

This hilarious little fellow loves hats, so much so he wants you to steal 100 hats! What counts as stealing a hat? Kill a duck, take their hat, and wear it. Do that 100 times to claim these shades!

Special Hats

There is actually a couple hats that only select people can have. Why? Because they did special things!

While not technically a hat, the game was designed to be able to read custom hats. However, this feature technically isn’t finished due to several issues, so you may never see one. This is the icon you will see if someone DOES have a custom hat, until they pick it.

Only within the OUYA version, and only for one person. Jayson Love, for his stream of Duck Game on his Twitch show, Man VS Game.

A gift from the developer for being a great member of the community, this hat was designed by user MahBucket, and given to MahBucket and JadeFlames.

While close to the Cyoob, this boils down into nothing but an earlier version of Cyoob. The outline is dark blue instead of black, and is named wrong.

A whole ten hats for these streamers! Nothing more to say other then this game was published by adult swim, and the stream is from adult swim. Fish swim. Swim.

Me-ow! A hat for streamer Lirik, a crying kitty!

According to the dev of the game, Landon, also known as Superjoebob, there are MANY more heads that have been made by the Adult Swim team, many of which he hasn’t even seen before!

Unfortunately, unless one of the Adult Swim team members comes to me with proof it is one of them, and shows me pictures of said hats, I am only looking for one more hat image. There is a Robot Chicken special hat that the Adult Swim team has, which has been mentioned for a while.

But why am I no longer taking hat submissions of special hats? As of more recently, more and more users are slowly figuring out how .hat files are encoded, meaning they can make as many special hats as they please. I cannot verify any of these special hats could be from the developers, so I cannot accept them.

Unused Hats

So far there seems to be quite a few hats which so far, you can’t get! Mostly ties, however. Do they even count as hats? I guess.

It’s just another variation of the regular duck head. Nothing major. Technically in the game for when a player wins who isn’t wearing a hat.

From the looks of it, a rather simple hat. It seems to be a mafia/detective style duck. He seems to be very unconcerned, and is smoking a cigar.

A simple unused hat. It replaces your regular eyes, with angry eyes. The odd thing is, if you were to drop this hat, would there be a set of eyes laying on the ground?

Woah, a large image! What’s mainly here, however, is humans. While some may have been hats, most of them look as if they were probably for other celebrities, if the MAN hat has anything to say about it. Along with them are a few other hats mixed in, a Halo Helmet, an iron pot,a robber’s mask, a DELICIOUS pineapple, and a wresling mask. While I believe the last five hats I mentioned may become real some day, the rest probably aren’t going to be used.

More recently, the hatCollection file was updated to include several new hats. The reason for this is the file is used as a template for the developers to create new hats. Within the file is now a set of shades, a lone propeller which would probably go with another part of a hat, a racing helmet, and a snow cap with goggles to go with it.

And even more recently, it was updated for two more hats. These could potentially be for streamers, it’s an odd duo! Both of them are from the Pokemon series, with the one on the left being Pokemon #270, Lotad, and Pokemon #385, Jirachi!

What an odd hat. This hat is around 3x as wide as a duck’s head’s width! That’s a big hat, how fun!

Custom Hats

For completeness, I figured I’d add a small thing here about custom hats. Custom hats are possible, but they are not for everyone. There are two forms of custom hats.

1. “Special” hats.
Everyone can see them in-game, and they are for special people. Previously, you had to do something great for the Duck Game community and not go begging for a custom hat for a chance to even deserve one from the developer himself. These hats are specially encoded, and you cannot use a .xnb file as a special hat.

Nowadays, custom hats are available to all! You can learn to make your own hats here!

2. “Custom” hats.
They work, but alas, there is two problems. You can only see them from your Duck Game, and you must replace another hat. It’s a good thing if there’s a hat you don’t like in-game, and you wish to have special hats for your local multiplayer buddies. This does have a benefit over choice 3, in which you can still play online with these “Custom” hats.

To put it in a simple aspect, the way to swap hat files like this is simple. Each file is often a 32×64 image. It overlays over the original duck head, and is a .xnb file. You must convert said file into a png, and then convert it back into a .xnb. No, you cannot add in more .xnb files to add more hats.

3. Modded hats.
These hats are completely custom. You can make your own hat, you don’t need to install a ridiculous set of programs which take over 2GB of your PC, and they don’t replace other hats. There is one small problem, however.

In order to play online with these hats, you must join a server which only has other players using your specific mods. What does this mean? It causes segregation of the community. It’s only really good for private matches with friends, or locally. Otherwise, disable them, and then play in normal online servers.
