Game Mechanics
Traps:
traps are common occurrences that the AI the neighbor uses in order to hinder progress traps include:
Bear Traps: They stun you, press Space repeatedly in order to escape bear traps may also be thrown by the neighbor when hes chasing you. when you get caught by a bear trap you will hear a loud metallic bang.
Cameras: When they see you they make a loud censor beep that alerts the neighbor to the location they can be destroyed by throwing an item at them
Water Buckets: they are placed normal on top of doors but when bugged out they can be inside doors as well, when a bucket trap is activated it will fall on the player and blur the screen.
Defenses:
Another occurrence that happens when you are getting the hang of things so the neighbors AI places these to hinder progress these include:
Window Planks: like normal boards these can be removed via crowbar or hammer
Chair: The neighbor will sometimes lock a door by propping a chair on it, the chair defense breaks very easily
Hiding: Hiding can be done by interacting with beds or opening a wardrobe go in and closing it
A broken Camera (Evident by the sparks)
Items
Anything not listed here is considered a “useless item” useless items still have very little purpose though
TV – Turn it on and will play a audio of a fast speaking Spanish Narrator advertising a bank, the neighbor will get distracted by this
Clock – Same as the TV but it takes time
Crowbar – Remove Boards (required to beat game)
Hammer – same purpose as the crowbar (required to beat game)
Key – unlocking doors (required to beat game)
Ultra violent lamp – use it on certain wall to reveal a code
(semi-required to beat game due to tutorials)
Tomato – Throw it at a window to make it splat, the neighbor will run to it to inspect it
Box – helps get you to higher up areas
Flashlight (Electric Torch) – lights up the way

A pile of many items
The Player (Pre-Alpha Man)
The Player in this build is NOT Nicky Roth (The Player from Alpha 2 and beyond) instead you play as a unnamed person (The community better knows him as the “Pre-Alpha Man”) This person you play as is very determined (as seen in the idle pose when the shadow is casted) The Unnamed Person cannot see himself and only can if his shadow is cast on a wall (Most horror games do this in order to keep the player face unseen) The Person is also very fast, faster then Nicky Roth and in the announcement trailer he shown to be slightly cowardly (for an example shaking when unlocking a door when the neighbor is behind him in the trailer) he also has incredible hearing, hiding and stealth skills
Pre-Alpha Mans Shadow as seen via flashlight
Pre Alpha Man seeing himself due to a lighting glitch with the flashlight
Proof Pre-alpha man does not actually hold items
Pre-alpha man running/walking
Pre-alpha man jumping
Pre-alpha mans shadow from natural lighting, notice its much more blurry
Annoucement Trailer, where pre-alpha man was first seen (NOTE: Contains swearing and is scripted!)
The Neighbor (Theodore Peterson)
when you are being chased by The Neighbor this music track will play on loop:
(footage is not mine)
the neighbor has 4 modes:
1. Idle
2. Hunt
3. Attack
4. Advanced Idle
in idle mode the neighbor will do normal everyday activities like watching TV… a lot
hunt mode is activated when the neighbor detects a change in the environment of his house, in hunt mode the neighbor will run from room to room in hopes of finding the person who changed the area he noticed the change in and will keep doing this for some time until he finds the player or goes through every room multiple times
in attack mode the neighbor chases the player while also chucking tomatoes and bear traps at the player while distorted amusement park music (shown above) plays it sounds different to a lot of players but the author thinks it sounds like a demented version of “ring around the Rosie”
In “Advanced Idle” which is Triggered by The Giant Neighbor Nightmare or opening the basement door, the neighbor almost always spawns in their front yard, to get in their house they will often pick up the box outside and break their own window to in their home, he will also get less repetitive by starting to watch TV much less and even making random object barriers.
The neighbor running to the player in his front yard
Tips
Only break windows if NEED to as the neighbor in this version is EXTREMELY observant this also goes for using TVs
Never Use the Tomato Either the neighbor is also very fast in this version (faster then the announcement trailer)
Todo
Tricks!
if you jump when the neighbor gets you he will catch you you’ll be behind him
