Start

1. when first starting, use the lords keep as a tower and extend the walls outward from it.
do not fully close the wall, build a small maze like structure where the enemy can trickle in while getting shot by your defenders. (the reason is if you fully filled the wall they will try to break the walls and it gets expensive to repair) Fill the gap with Arabia swordsman and slave/conscript as backup, as sometimes the maceman will run pass the swordsman. also position some healers once you get the money (you can hide them behind walls, they can heal through it) you can also send your lord to fight, just make sure he gets healed and not overwhelmed.

2. Your first economy will be wood huts, build as many as possible. also build one or two wheat farm asap, then the mill and bakery. set food to 1/2, you might still run out of food until the bakery kicks in, so keep an eye out and buy some.

3. Build more villagers house, having enough empty ones will give you happiness. Adjust your tax accordingly.

Middle

Now you should be able to survive (barely), even with some spare money from selling bread and wood.

1. IMPORTANT: when you have some extra coin, work towards getting crossbowmen, they are way more effective than archers, they have double health than archers, and take half the range damage, which means they effectively they last 4 times longer, combined with healers they can survive against enemy archers and crossbow better.
You can either buy the weapons, or craft them, which is much cheaper in the long run. because 5 iron is 40, while 5 armor is 160.

2. because of your empty huts and not a lot of resources, you will have a lot of unemployed people, use them to make some candles. Then once you saved up enough money (you also have to buy the stone), you can build a church and crank up even more tax. If you are lazy at manually selling all the bread, you can set the food to be double, which will give you +15 happiness, you can charge tax instead.

3. continue to fill the gap with swordsmen, if you also have the extra money, a captain will help them survive well.

4. (optional) Now the enemy comes in large crowd, you can build some hay throwing towers or catapult towers. enemy Crossbowmen takes extra 25% damage from fire damage.

Late

Now your ocean of crossbowmen should defend against the enemy efficiently, and you gain more troop than you lose. Slowly build up a giant army of crossbowmen and Arabia swordsmen. I get a attacking troop of 50 crossbowmen and 20 swordsmen, to attack the first estate. Have your crossbowmen stationed on the estate castle, and shoot any reinforcement that is being sent towards you. you should also add a few archers, because archers have a little bit bigger range, so they can counter the enemy archer, otherwise sometimes the enemy archer shoots your crossbowmen without them fighting back.

1. Once you get a foothold, build a siege camp next to you. Because you are very close to their base, you can send mantlet and burning cart to harass the enemy economy. The burning houses will also damage their troops patrolling.

2. Once most of their troops outside gets thinned out, build trebuchet and attack them from a safe distance. prioritize enemy ballista and other towers (ballista will always reach you first, so make sure you have a few trebuchet to trade it), then get trebuchet closer and closer while destroying any defense that could hurt it outside of their range. The most IMPORTANT thing to take out is their barrack, so they can't make new troops. If the enemy is going to attack you in a wave, bring your trebuchets behind your swordsmen and crossbowmen, and send them back once the wave is cleared bc these things are EXPENSIVE.

In my game I beat Richard first because the estate castle is closer to him. Over all if you already get to this point it should be pretty straight forward. Keep filling the estate castle with more and more crossbowmen and some healers. (treat it as your defense tower), they are very op and will shoot down anything coming close.

Some cheese/clutch tips

1. I often use conscript to bait and kite enemy swordsmen to give my archers more time and stretch the enemy thinner. I also use them to charge enemy archers and crossbowmen, just as they got into range of my archers so they get distracted by them.

2. you can build a siege camp near the path of the enemy attacking, somehow the enemy doesn't usually target it. So sometimes you can distract them with mantlet or ambush them with bunch of burning carts .

3. if you have a lot of unemployed peasants, crank the tax to max till the population drops low to temporarily make a few more coins.

4. There is a tiny corner outside of the wolf's space that allow you to put down a quarry. Then you can put a few ox tether next to your defenses, the enemy will stop to shoot the cows, buying you some time.

5. bc I put down so many wood hut at the start, once the trees are depleted a giant army of lumberjacks are marching out of my base to find new trees. They actually managed to slowdown the enemies a few times. the best part is they regenerate for free!

6. Save/Load a lot.
