Overview
After playing Hunt The Grey Wolf DLC many times, I decided to make a guide on how to know if your target is the Real Hitler or its double. This is also a guide to obtain the Threat Assessment Achievement. If you ever wondered why you didn’t get the achievement after finishing the mission, it’s because you made the wrong choice. Even if you have the Threat Assessment achievement, you might want to check this guide out just as additional information on how to differenciate the real Hitler from his double. Here are all the observations I found out so far. Feel free to leave a comment, if you noticed anything.
About Intel Fiability
The mission is quite simple. You have to find war diaries throughout the mission, read its content and determine whether the real Hitler is coming to Tobruk or just the double.
The most important thing to know about those war diaries is this : The last war diary you get should be the only one to consider as true. The first 2 war diaries are just PERSPECTIVES , while the last one is an actual OBSERVATION . Just check the title of the diaries you gather and you’ll see.
The war diaries for this mission are always random. It requires several playthroughs to gather them all. No matter what you find once inside the city, the first 2 intels don’t matter. Just pick them up to complete the objective. That’s their sole purpose. They’re also funny, eh.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not stating that those perspectives are false and not true. But you’ll see why they don’t matter if you keep reading.
True Intels
Once you’ve put intel’s fiability in your priority list, just after searching the entire city for Welrod’s ammo, let’s check the actual OBSERVATIONS you need to study.
The first intel you get before getting inside the city stands alongside the city key. Always the same intel from one go to another, you need to consider it.
To sum it up, we don’t know whether if it’s Hitler or it’s double coming. But Kuhn’s messenger have the answer.
But who the hell is Kuhn’s messenger ?
He’s the one carrying the intel you should consider. The only OBSERVATION you find in a single playthrough. He’s right there.
He’s your objective, right after you passed through the gate in the staircase. He’s either going to give the intel to the officer, or leave it in the office. You can also kill him and loot for the intel. Locations don’t matter. What matters is the actual intel.
Here are the OBSERVATIONS you can get from him. Total of three, they have to considered as true.
Basically, we learn that the real Hitler is RIGHT-HANDED, he HATES ALCOHOL and gives a pure GOLD WATCH to his soldier for quitting cigarettes.
But how is this really important in the mission ?
Target Behavior
The intel you gather is really important because Hitler has a specific BEHAVIOR when he arrives in Tobruk.
It may sounds crazy, but this behavior will change between playthroughs. Keep in mind that both Hitler’s will have a proper behavior, giving away their true identity, should you be keen to notice.
Remember : We have 3 true intels.
Hitler has a strong distaste for alcohol, according to intel. Hitler will either wave a hand, inviting his soldier to put the bottle on the table or he will punch the table hardly, making the soldier flee with the bottle in his hands.
I have to say : Hat’s off to Rebellion (Game developers). If you don’t observe carefully, it’s really easy to miss those behaviors differences.
If you’re still unsure of the true target’s identity, you can wait until a cutscene comes in. You see Hitler standing up and walking to his car to get out. This is where a soldier ask Hitler’s autograph.
According to intel, Hitler is right-handed. Hitler will either sign using his right hand or his left hand.
The Real Hitler will refuse the alcohol and use his right hand to sign.
The Double will accept the alcohol and use his left hand to sign.
*Gold Watch intel thing coming soon.*
How to correctly choose to leave or kill
If they’re giving you an achievement for making a correct choice, this obviously says that you need to do some investigation.
Based on what you observed in the mission, you have to make a choice.
Observe carefully when Hitler arrives.
KILL : Refusing alcohol/Right-handed
LEAVE : Accepting alcohol/Left-handed
In nearly 15 playthroughs, I always had the previous behaviors combination. I never had a left handed Hitler that refused the alcohol, nor a right-handed accepting it. I’ve had a good mix of fake Hitlers, and real Hitlers. I’ll keep playing to strenghen the fiability of my theory.
I’m quite sure that if you follow this method, you’ll get the Threat Assessment the first time (if you don’t already have it).
This entire guide is based on my own observations and experiences through the game. I’m hopeful it can help some snipers out there, still confused about the real/double mystery. After all, the best interpretation you can have is always your own.
Remember : Observe, Plan, Execute. At its most.
TL;DR Section
1 : Read the intel that the messenger is carrying around, right before heading up to Hitler, and acknowledge its content.
2 : When you see Hitler, observe the guy carrying the wine bottle.
2.1 : If Hitler accepts the wine bottle, do not kill.
2.2 : If Hitler refuses the wine bottle, kill.
3 : If Hitler stands up to go away, a soldier will ask him for an autograph.
3.1 : If Hitler signs with the right hand, kill.
3.2 : If Hitler signs with the left hand, do not kill.
Fun Fact
It has been pointed out a year ago that if you get a successfull bullet cam on Hitler’s nutsack, you’ll see your bullet blowing (no pun intended) only one testicle, IF IT’S THE REAL ONE.
And the same goes for the double, except he actually has a pair…
