Overview
A basic guide to help you not become fish-food.
Intro
You are swimming along trying to catch a peeper, when something that looks half-shark and half-croc bites you. If you’ve had this sort of probelm, or had a gaint monster that would scare the Kracken senseless come after you this guide may help. The idea of this guide is to tell you some tips about aggro fauna, and ways to fight back or avoid them.
STALKERS
The Stalker is a purple-colored fauna that I mentioned in the intro, Stalkers mostly spawn in the kelpforst biome and around the aurora. Stalkers are a little slower than the player and rather dumb in attack fashion, it will swim attack you non-stop and try to take a chunk out of you. They will try to flee if they bite you. If you want to get away release a peeper or such to distract them, if you hand-feed them the stalker will becomed ‘tamed’ and give you a metal salvage. If you want to kill it though try strafing to a side so it has to turn and stab at it with a knife. If you have a proplusion cannon pick something off the seafloor and shoot it at the Stalker, you can deal some pretty seroius damage. You can even ram at it with the seamoth or shock it to take a large amount of health away from it.
BONESHARKS
Bonesharks spawn in the koosh kone, underwater islands, and I think a few others. Don’t mistake them for a Reaper! The Boneshark’s cry is much more ghostly than the Reaper’s and mostly only makes noise when charging. They’re eyes can be a dead give-away even if they brown body is cameoflauged as their eyes glow green. If you spot one coming for you without fins or transportation try to strafe and dodge its charge, the Boneshark can cacth up though so its best to swim away if you spot one in this situation. When you have the seamoth don’t bother ramming, the Boneshark will lunge as well and deal a fair bit of damage. Vortex torpedoes and the defense system are better weapons. If you have to knife it try to have some fins (I suggest ultra glide) and go backwards while strafing to dodge it. Bonesharks are VERY stubborn and will often try to attack multiple times. You can also sometimes find their eggs too.
SANDSHARKS
Sandshark’s can be found in the grassy plateus and around the aurora, I can’t say for sure where else (sorry). They look alot like bugs and will often sneak attack you. As their name implies Sandsharks will burrow until close, then roar and lunge out at you. Sandsharks aren’t very brave, if you stab the sandshark it will give a burst of speed and swim away. Your best stragety for luring him out is actually the terraformer, dig away the sand around him and you can take the chance to stab it. The replusion cannon works well too, as you can blast back underground. You can swim away rather easily with fins if you need to flee. One interesting fact is the Sandshark can sometimes help you, if they spot biters (small annoying fish) they will eat them instead of the player.
CRABSNAKE
The Crabsnake can only be found in the jellyshroom caves. If apporached while in a mushroom nest they will lunge out, harm the player, and push them away. There’s only one wise plan of action, 3 blasts from the defense system will kill a Crabsnake, then the player can go into the nest and at times find rare loot. If you do not have a Seamoth with the defense system steer clear of the jellyshroom caves.
REAPER LEVIATHAN
The big man himself, Reapers only spawn in the mountains, dunes and around the Aurora. Large beasts, they sometimes actually travel in groups so be careful! The Reaper has a loud roar to warn the player to stay, if you see one without a cyclops RUN! The Reaper can’t be avoided or fought without the seamoth and will kill you in couple hits. Your best bet is the Stasis Rifle, which can freeze him long enough for you to escape. If he attacks you in the seamoth, Rush him and dive below (an idea suggested by others, so I can’t take credit.) the Reaper is slow turner, so it will give you enough time to escape. If he grabs onto the seamoth blast him with the defense system, if you don’t have it you may be better off ejecting and escaping with a seaglide. While in the Cyclops the Reaper can only shove you a little. (I have been told however that in some versions he CAN damage it, mostly in the expiremental ones. So be careful!)
CAVE CRAWLERS and BLOOD CRAWLERS
The Cave crawlers mainly spawn on the aurora, and on the floating island. Able to move underwater and on land, Both types tend to travel in packs so be careful not to get swarmed. The knife won’t always work, now if your underwater, just ram wiht the seamoth and they should take a fair bit of damage, inculding Blood Crawlers. the proplusion cannon can even pick them up and shoot them. killing them (most of the time) and cause damage in the process. Blood crawlers are almost extactly the same, except for having longer legs, they spawn in the blood kelp zone and dark island zone.
End of guide
Sadly to say I don’t know any real strageties to fight crabsquids. As for bleeders and biters just slash at them. So this is the end of the guide. Please let me know if I exculding any aggro fauna in game or a fighting style. Best of luck surviving in the world of Subnautica everyone. 🙂
