How I made it to the Home Island

Overview

Someone asked me to make a guide on how I got to the Home Island so here I am.

Overview

Hello! After posting the screenshot of my arrival at the Home Island someone asked me to make a guide on how I did it. So why not? I’ve got nothing better to do. Also fair warning, I feel like my experience was pretty unique, so your run through would probably gonna be pretty different. But lets get into it!
P.S. this is my first guide so sorry if it sucks :p

Starting Island, Eve’s Island and First Small Island

I went through the first three islands pretty quickly. After starting the game, I went through the tutorial, moving around, collecting from the berry bush, and then continued on to find Eve. I met Eve and had a kid right off the bat and left as soon as the kid was old enough. I never really saw the point in spending time on the island after Eve so I just sent my three through to the next island.

Grassy Island

After getting to the big grassy island at the beginning of the journey, I started having more kids with Adan and Eve. Since I didn’t have much food yet, I only had kids until I got a pair that could breed(it may seem a bit strange to breed siblings, but its the best way to keep the Home Island Immunity gene in the family), and started clearing away the grass and collecting food. As my food count grew, I started expanding my numbers more. I like to send a few creatures that I don’t plan on breeding, which I fondly call my ‘Trailblazers’, to make a path to the next port. I spent a few generations here, hopping my breeding pair farther up the island with each new pair, having their kids clear the surrounding grasses and collecting more food as they went. Once we arrived at the port, I had the current breeding pair have a bunch of babies as fast as I could so the ones I would send to the next island were as young as possible. When the Island Hoppers were almost ready to head out, I had the other members of the Tribe break the berry bushes to collect the most food I could before setting off.

Archipelago

Arriving at the next Island, I had my breeding pair start having babies as soon as possible. Since the Archipelago islands are so much smaller, I usually clear all the grass on the islands we settle on. To get to the north port, I stayed on the far right islands since they seemed to be closer together than the other options. Best case scenario, you kept Adam’s big body, or even better, managed to get water body or gills. If you do have water breathing, you can send them where ever you want and the next section doesn’t really apply to you, but more often than not you don’t have the proper genes for that yet. When island hopping, you want to first locate the shallowest crossing and figure out how many creatures you can safely send across at once. In most cases the best method would be to move them into the first water cell off of the shore and keep them there til the next day so they have all three action points to get across the water. You don’t want to send children across because they’re too small and will take more drowning damage. If you still have big body then your tribe members will take one less drowning damage than creatures with smaller body types. I once again used the Trailblazer method, but this time instead of sending them all the way across, I only send them to the next mini island so they can start clearing stuff out and making room for their tribe mates to safely come across. Leaving the older creatures on the previous mini island helps keep food levels up. repeat the process until you get to the larger Island that holds the north port. The next island is a jungle biome, which is hotter and has more threats, so I would suggest mutating big noes and medium/small body if you haven’t already.

Swampy Hills

After hopping to the next island, me and by tribe arrived on a jungle island, but not the one I needed to be on to continue the story. There was no northern port and no tutorial prompts to tell me where to go. So I decided to just move on. If this happens to you, always go to the port on the right. The one on the left leads you to an easier island and then you’ll have to go back through the Grassy and Archipelago islands. Anywho, I got to the next port, but my creatures were getting pretty old, so I settled down for a generation and things got a little dramatic. We had a couple run ins with the carnivorous plant and then a Big Eared Ape so I noped it out of there pretty quick.

Whale Island pt 1

I was pretty surprised when I ended up on a Whale Island, but hey, I could work with this. I called the whale The Protector because I wanted to add a bit more story. Pro tip: if you want the Family Reunion achievement as well as the Homecoming achievement DO NOT bring outsiders in for breeding, no matter what genes you want or need. Its not worth it and you could lose the home immunity. Trust me, I almost made the same mistake. After an accidental population boom due to many a rouge males and me deciding I might as well have the babies, a thought popped into my head. Can I get to the Home Island from here? The answer is no. But it was worth a shot. After a bit of research to figure out where we needed to go next, I stationed my breeding pair by the port and started churning out more babies. Once everyone was ready to go I destroyed all the bushes and off we went.

Overgrown Jungle

When you get to the Overgrown Jungle, you might notice a bit of a problem. The northern port is blocked by vines. To get rid of them and advance to the next island, you need to find and destroy 5 roots scattered around the island. Remember earlier when I said you should have Big Nose to sense the predators and such? Yeah I didn’t do that. After losing a few tribe members to carnivorous plants, I figured I should probably do something about it, so big nose was introduced and we got to work. I found the roots pretty fast(which is pretty surprising due to the fact that there were absolutely no clearings on my island) and instead of sending Trailblazers this time, I sent a small group that included my breeders and a few others to provide support. Once I had enough kids to fill up the port, we set off to the next stop.

Burning Savanna

Did you know that medium body isn’t enough to keep cool in the savanna? I didn’t. I figured that staying on a super hot, fire prone island with a slow moving tribe wasn’t the best idea so I booked it as fast As I could to the next port, which was one of the right side since the Burning Savanna isn’t a challenge island. I got half way there and my breeding pair started to get pretty old, so they stopped and started having kids, which I sent over to the port to get ready to escape. There were surprisingly few problems and we moved on fairly quickly.

Whale Island pt 2

And were back on the whale. But we’ve learned from our mistakes and things went much smother this time. we didn’t have nearly as many rouge babies and we didn’t invite any outsiders in, no matter how cool their wings and scorpion tails were. We also lost our big body which sucked considering where we needed to go next, but hey, you win some you lose some. Ok so I haven’t been stressing this much but its super important that you stock up on food before going to this next island or you will starve. I spent nearly 3 generations stocking up on food(and making cosmetic changes but whatever). After lots of preparations, we finally set off to the final challenge island.

Long Winter(and Crossing)

The Long Winter is the final big hurdle before getting to the Home Island, but you couldn’t just run through it. Nah that would be too easy. The north port has frozen over and huge ice spires block the way home, and the only thing to do was wait for warmer weather. Since I came from the Whale, I got to bring more creatures than you usually could, but it was still pretty difficult. I had lost my Big Body so the tribe had to travel in groups of 3 at least. I sent three of the fastest tribe members to crack open the two prehistoric icebergs that spawned on the island(they both contained Mammoth foot, much to my annoyance), and moved the rest of the family closer to the port. Then the snows started. I barely got the prehistoric creatures back before the snow built up so much that we couldn’t move. I decided it would be best to have some babies while we wait so we would have a younger generation to send to the next island. A Ramfox pack showed up but the tribe dealt with that pretty easily. Then a Balance Bear decided to join the fun. Thanks to the help of the Prehistorics, we were able to kill that bear. And then the Balance Bears wanted revenge. Three bears spawned, nearly surrounding the tribe, but luckily, warmer weathers finally arrived and I was able to toss some of the children on the port and send them off while everyone else fended off the bears.

The next island was the Crossing, but I was so excited I just breezed through that one without much thought.

Welcome Home

Congratulations! You made it home! Now you’ll have plenty of food and many a family member to keep you company. After a long journey with many ups and downs, we finally reunited with our long lost kin. We can finally live in peace. Welcome Home, dear Wanderers.
