How to Activate Mods in 2021

Overview

The devs keep blocking our mods. Here’s how to unblock them.

Downloading and installing mods

Here, you can download loads of mods and enhance your gameplay experience.

Head to your Just Cause 3 directory. To get there with ease, right click on Just Cause 3 in your Steam library and select “Properties”. Then click on the “Local” tab and select “Browse local files…”. Once in your Just Cause 3 root directory, create a new folder called “dropzone”. Whenever you open a mod’s .zip (if you’re new to this, use 7zip or Winrar to make your life easier), simply drag the content of the mod’s zip into the dropzone folder.

Running the mods

This may get patched, but as of right now, to play most mods you need to set some launch options. To do this, right click Just Cause 3 in Steam again, and click on “Properties”. Then select “Set launch options” and paste the following text:
–vfs-fs dropzone –vfs-archive patch_win64 –vfs-archive archives_win64 –vfs-archive dlc_win64 –vfs-fs

Troubleshooting

In some cases, the above launch options don’t work. If this happens to you, try these two alternate variants of the same settings (test them separately, of course). I have absolutely no idea why, but the periods actually have an impact on whether this works or not for some people, so try it out:

–vfs-fs dropzone –vfs-archive patch_win64 –vfs-archive archives_win64 –vfs-archive dlc_win64 –vfs-fs.

–vfs-fs dropzone –vfs-archive patch_win64 –vfs-archive archives_win64 –vfs-archive dlc_win64 –vfs-fs .

If the mods still don’t work, the only thing I can recommend is giving JC3 administrator privileges. To do this, again navigate to your Just Cause 3 root directory by right clicking Just Cause 3 in Steam and clicking “Properties”. Click the “Local” tab and select “Browse local files…”. Once in the root directory, right click the Just Cause 3 executable (named “JustCause3.exe”), and select “Properties”. Go to the “Compatability” tab and tick the “Run this program as an administrator” box. If this doesn’t help, ♥♥♥♥ dude, I dunno.
