How to add custom Last Man Standing music!

Overview

Ever heard a song that would fit any Last Man Standing situation just perfect? Just make your dream come true!

Introduction

Have you ever wanted to hear your favourite song while saving your team from loosing precious caches or control points while being under pressure of being the last one alive? With this guide you can! Here I present to you the easiest way (at least for me) to do that!

“But what do I need to do that?” – You may ask.
First you (of course) need your favourite song! Believe it or not but finding a perfect piece of music is the hardest part of this guide! But sadly this is not the only thing. The song file has to be in .ogg format. But don’t you worry! There is plenty of software around that can be used to change your file to .ogg in no time! If you think you can handle converting a file to .ogg yourself then feel free to skip the next section and enjoy some free time! Just don’t waste it!

“But wait! I don’t want a whole song but just a tiny part!” No worries! I will be including editing your precious file in the next section. Feel free to check it!

Convertion and Editing

Welcome to “Converting files to .ogg format”!
This simple task can be done in many different ways.
If you want the whole song for your Last Man Standing music just use any “to .ogg converter” found on google! But remember that no matter how epic the music is, if it is too long, it may end up being as much harmful for you as a bunch of hungry raptors! The point of Last Man Standing music is to notice you about how fu how bad your current situation is and also to give you some confidence and remove stress! This won’t really help much if you are not able to concentrate and hear footsteps!

“Okay then, I want my song to be short and fancy then!” Whatever you wish!
Simple editing can add much more magic to your song! That’s the part where you should decide what software you want to use. I personally used Sony Vegas Pro 11 (just because i had it lying around my hard drive) and that’s what I’m going to use as an example! This program can also be used to format files to .ogg!

At first you will want to add your file. You can drag it straight from your desktop to the window left from the video screen (screen is black because it’s only an audio file).

Next drop the file to the window below. This will be the place where you cut and sprinkle your file with magic! In this guide you will experience only 2 basic things: cutting the file and adding a fade in/out. As you can see on the screenshot below there we have our file. By using your mouse cursor on one of the sides you can make your clip shorter! (one of the sides is marked “1”) If fading is what you want, notice the little triangle on top of each side (marked “2”). Drag it wherever you want to add fading! If you want to check if you edited the file right just press the “play” button! (triangle below video screen)

After you’re done with editing now it’s time to render the file. Look at the top left corner and select “file”, then “render as”.

Above (number 3) you can change name of your file. Now the most important part:
in the “output format” select “OggVorbis” (marked “4”) and “128kbps, 44 100Hz, Stereo” (marked “5”). Then press “Render” (number 6) and viola! Your file is ready to be put into the game!

Making a .vpk

EDIT: (Thanks to Deetron)
Before we start this section make sure that Insurgency SDK is installed:

(Please ignore the fact that its not installed on the screenshot)
You can check this in your steam library.

You’ve made it so far, good job! Now that you have your desired file edited and in .ogg format it is time to prepare it to be put into the game. To do that you will have to make a new folder anywhere and call it “root” then a folder inside called “sound” and yet another folder inside called “hq”. There you will have 2 more folders called “insurgent” and “security”. It should look like folders on the screenshot.

Now this is the part when our .ogg comes in. Copy your file 5 times and rename it to “last1” “last2” “last3” “last4” and “last5” and put it into the “insurgent” folder. Then copy those 5 “last” files and paste them inside “security” folder too. It should look like this:

Now go to your steam games folder and find a file called “vpk.exe” (SomeDrive:SteamSteamAppscommoninsurgency2bin). When you got it, just drag your “root” folder you just made onto the “vpk.exe”. Now a Valve Pack File will be created just where you made your “root” folder. The vpk file will also be named “root”.

Adding mod to the workshop

Now that you have your “root.vpk” your mod is technically ready. You could just put it straight in the game folder but why even bother? Just launch your game (Yes, the one called Insurgency) and go to the “Workshop” tab
.

Another thing you want to click on (hopefully without hurting your finger) is “Submit”

Now it is time to select your “root.vpk” file (marked “1”). Name the mod (marked “2”), select a picture for the mod (marked “3”) add a “sound” tag (marked “4”). Now you can submit the file to the workshop! (marked “5”)

“But now people will see my mod and I just wanted to keep it for myself!”
Don’t worry! After submitting the mod to the cloud it will automatically be set as “private” so you can edit it without any worries! You may also ask why I didn’t just tell you to put the mod straight in the game folder. It’s simple! Now you can subsribe and unsubscribe your mod whenever you want and it’s just as easy as making a few mindless clicks with your mouse! Also you can share the mod with your friends easily or maybe even gain some steam fame!

If you think your mod is not working try using “snd_restart” in your game console or turning your ingame volume up (or just try to be the Last Man Standing duhh). If you are still having problems write a comment below, maybe someone can tell you to f help you!

Stay safe and keep those guns silenced!
