How To Add Workshop Maps To Multiplayer Server :)

An comprehensive guide of how to add workshop maps to your multiplayer server!

Introduction

This is the only way I know how to add workshop maps to my own multiplayer server so If you know an easier way…well share it because I spent hours looking on how to do this ♥♥♥♥ and googling. BUT FINALLY, I KNOW A WAY. Cause that’s why you’re here right?

Btw not 100% guaranteed to work, if you can’t find the files well….RIP

Server MUST be shutdown before proceeding!

Okay so lets pretend you want to use the “New Denver, BC” map. Obviously you’ll need to subscribe to the map to download it and once that’s done les begin.

Step 1)

Go to your Steam Library > SteamApps > Workshop > Content > 108600

“108600” represents project Zomboid’s AppID so keep that in mind. Each Steam game has its own unique AppID.

You will come across one or multiple folders within folder “108600” simply browse further into each folder via the ID number > mods > “Maps name” > media > maps

Step 2?)

Now copy that folder within ID number > mods > “Maps name” > media > maps
In this case we copy the folder “NewDenver”.

Paste the folder in the following directory: SteamLibrary > SteamApps > common > ProjectZomboid > media >maps

Rename the file to its legit town name from “NewDenver” to “New Denver, BC” because that’s what the serverbat thingy will be looking for.


Step 3)

Open the multiplayer servertest.ini which is located in your C:Drive > Users > “Yourusername” > Zomboid > Server

Open the file with notepad or notepad++ if you’re a kewl kid and you’ll be shown a whole bunch of ♥♥♥♥, don’t worry doe you’re only focusing on two command lines.

Step 4)

Locate the command line;

Mods=
Map=

Whatever is currently there, replace it with your workshop map stuff. So the mod is “NewDenver” and the map is “New Denver, BC”. So the command line would look like dis;

I assume whatever is the folder name of your workshop map after the media folder, is the name of that mod.

Step whatever is next after the previous

Save and close the servertest.ini file and open “servertest_spawnregions.lua”. This part is super simple and don’t be concerned about this ♥♥♥♥ if you don’t know ♥♥♥♥ about lua cause you don’t cause its all there for you to copy and paste.

Simply copy the line above and paste, and replace words!

For me it would be:

{ name = “New Denver, BC” file= “media/maps/New Denver, BC/spawnpoints.lua” },

Just like dat, exactly like dat 😉


This ♥♥♥♥ basically means that the server needs to grab the spawn locations for that map if a user wants to play on that map, if your server console gives error messages about your spawnreigions file its something you’ve done wrong in here or the map file doesn’t have a spawnpoint.lua file. Anyways, once that’s written save and close.

Step a step

Launch thy serverbat file and pray to gaben that you did everything correctly, if you ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up well….I dunno recheck if you did it right or comment here and I shall reply and stuff. It was aids googling for hours trying to figuring this ♥♥♥♥ our when me and my friends wanted to play New Denver together where I couldnt find the phyiscal map file but ha ♥♥♥♥♥ figured this out and wanted to share with whoever that still plays this game lmao.
