Overview
Would you like to find the ruthless impostors? Are you tired of seeing your friends dying every round? Want the impostors to be scared of you? Then this guide is perfect for you! I will introduce you to a few tips to get into the Detective’s job and the way you give impostors zero chance to win against you.
Choose your clothes.
A crucial part of being a detective is to choose your clothes. It would be ridiculous to see a detective to be dressed in a banana hat, right? Without any further add, an exceptional example of a suit would be a black hat, followed by a uniform, preferably black. And, of course, a pet! Here is my uniform:
Among Us terms
Through the time, players has been using some new terms which can be a little confusing for new players so I will make a little introduction to these terms:
-Visual Task:
Visual Tasks are tasks that other players can see being performed. When Crewmates do a Visual Task, all players will see animated visual effects indicating that the task is being performed. Visual Tasks are proof that the Crewmate performing it is innocent, since Impostors cannot perform tasks.
-“Sus”
The term “Sus” has been taken first three words of the suspect and suspicious. When you see someone saying Green is sus they’re saying green has been doing something suspicious.
-Fake task:
Fake tasks are tasks that impostors will tend to fake, for example, downloading & uploading data or swiping cards.
When someone’s saying Green was faking a task! they mean the task was faked and not truly performed.
-Vent:
Venting refers to an action only impostors may perform. Vents are an alternative way for impostors to travel around the map without being seen.
Necessary equipment
An important step to resolve cases and find the impostors is to note every piece of information you might find helpful. Even Einstein was noting down their theories and research documents. If you believe you don’t have a granny memory (like me), you may freely skip this step. However, I highly recommend you to note, you never know. Nonetheless, here are some tools I would recommend you to have handy in an among us game:
- A paper with a crayon or;
- A phone with the Notepad application or;
- A Notepad window opened on your PC;
- Some relaxing music;
- A well-made glass of lemonade, so you don’t get thirsty.
Great, you have everything you will probably need the most! On your paper or notepad, you have to organize your list. How? Simple! Make sure you have the following categories written down:
- Safe Crewmates:
- Partially safe:
- Suspect Crewmates:
- Partially suspect:
- Impostors found:
- Case information:
Now that you know what a list has to include, you need to know how to complete these categories rightfully.
–“Safe Crewmates”–
Safe crewmates are members part of your team that you SURELY know they’re safe and innocent. I recommend completing this category only when you saw the respective doing the visual objective.
For instance, you saw Green doing the clearing asteroids task. You might want to note that in this category. You may also note safe claims(ex: Rose saw Green clearing the asteroids. )
Though it may sound believable, I suggest noting them down only when more than one person claims they’ve done the task. A more plausible scenario: Rose, Coral and Blue saw Green clearing the asteroids. Now, you can note them down. Why is that? The impostors will find a way to protect themselves, which the most popular way is through lying their partner did a visual task.
–“Partially safe”–
This category is a little more tricky. To complete this category, you will have to watch the way a person is doing their objective. An impostor would look forward to blending in by pretending to complete a task, and you want to prevent that. How? One clue is to identify the logical steps to finalize a task. Let’s take the “Fuel Engines” task for this one. You have to fill up the canister and go to one of the engines to fill them up. This task asks you to do this two times in the same order. However, most impostors may forget to do it, and they will do it only one time. If you saw a crewmate doing it two times in the same order, you might want to consider them partially safe.
–“Suspect Crewmates”–
Suspects are the people you fully believe they’re the impostors, and you have a high level of evidence they’re the impostors. The title is self-explanatory, and examples are not needed.
–“Partially suspect”–
Partially suspect is pretty much the same as partially safe but the opposite. In this category, you may note the people you suspect but not have much proof against them.
–“Impostors found”–
In this category, you want to note the impostors that have been found and ejected. As weird as it may sounds, it will help you identify the other impostor. How will this help me? Most of the time, in a discussion, when a crewmate accuses the impostor X, the impostor Y will try to back them up and defend. If you have the impostor Y on the partially suspect list already, and then you realised they supported the impostor X, you found the impostor Y! Don’t forget this may not work all the time.
–“Case information”–
The title is pretty much self-explanatory. Here you may write down everything you think is helpful: where was the body found, who was near the body, who was in room X when the body was found etc.
Everything on the list will help make you a connection and find a potential pattern the impostor would follow to kill the bodies.
Identifying an Impostor
To identify an impostor, it’s important to know a few tactics and behaviors of an impostor. Other way, you won’t be able to identify a professional impostor.
1. Most impostors will often center themselves on a task moving back and forth, repeatedly. Crewmates are most of times in a rush and they don’t care about the position at the task, and they will probably stop right away, pressing the task option.
2. Suspicious movement. Imagine the following scenario: The game just started. Five people which one of them is you, are going on the right part of the map: Weapons, O2, Navigation and Shields. You know that, often, at least one task is on the right side of the map. Three people are stopping to complete their tasks. However, you saw the fourth person keep going ignoring all the potential tasks that may exists. This might be a proof of a suspicious activity.
1. They eliminate or kill the accuser.
Let’s say Coral accused Pink of something they consider suspicious. Pink somehow convinced everyone that the accusation is false, and the discussion ends. Pink, which is an impostor, will kill the accuser. This is one proof that the impostor is pink.
2. The impostor will tend to stay on their own.
Most impostors will try their best to remain alone to find a potential victim. Imagine this scenario: There are, currently, eight people in the game. Six of them are staying grouped while the other two are alone, let’s say Black and Pink. Black kills pink, and then they will report the body. We know black and pink were alone all the game which leads us to one proof against Black.
3. They’re silent.
While crewmates may be arguing for possible suspects, the impostor will mostly remain silent and let them accuse themselves. If you see something identical or similar to this case, you might found possible proof against the impostor.
4. The “2 Impostor in two-person group” tactic
Imagine this scenario: Black, Green, Pink and Yellow are in electrical. The impostors are Yellow and Green. They kill black and immediately report the body. Both impostors will accuse Pink for killing black but pink is on their own. In the end, pink gets voted out and turns out they was not the impostor. If you see something identical or similar to this case, make sure you call out a meeting and specify that they could’ve use this tactic, make sure you explain yourself why you believe that.
How to identify an Impostor, 2
Now that we know some of the tactics an Impostor may be using, let’s find out how can we possibly find the impostor using the tactics.
1. Check the rooms two people were there.
Let’s say two people were in navigation with you, but then you decided to leave. Don’t leave the area completely because there is a high probability that one of them is an impostor. Instead of leaving, double-check later to see if there is a dead body left in the navigation. You know who could do it.
2. Eliminate suspects.
On your list, write down the people you consider safe. Don’t forget this step as it is one of the most important ones.
3. Don’t share out your list of the safe and partially safe crewmates because the impostor will probably kill them to eliminate the one’s that are for sure safe.
4. Make a connection and thoughts using your current information
You have to use the information you have at its maximum capacity. Every suspect, partially suspect, safe and partially safe are very helpful in situations where the impostors are not suspicious.
Finale Words
Every situation in Among Us may be different. You need to think subjectively to find the impostor. These tactics and behavior examples are not here to ensure you a win, they are here to help you make an idea on how to find an impostor.
If this guide gets a favourable level of attention, I’ll make one on how to win as an impostor.
