Black Mirror III Guide

How to Change Language for Black Mirror III

How to Change Language

Overview

Trouble switching language? Not a problem

Introduction

Another Black Mirror, with the same problems as the previous game and some new ones.

Lets fix that as much as possible.

Language File and Configuration File Directories

There are two directories that play a role on how to properly identify and actually configure which language will be used.

The directory in which the game is installed and its sub folder containing the language files.

And the save file and configuration file directory on your windows drive.

Switching Language

To select the language you want to play in, you’ll have to go to the games properties in Steam and select it first.

After the game is done downloading, the loca folder should contain the files necessary for your preferred language.
But here is also where the game throws you down a cliff for some of them.

While most make sense, some just make none.

The name of the loca_ file will be important later.

For English the file should be loca_english
For German the file should be loca_german
For French the file should be loca_french
For Italian the file should be loca_italian
For Spanish the file should be loca_spanish
For Russian the file should be loca_english – it will contain Russian, despite the name
For Polish the file should be loca_english – same with this one, having Polish
For Czech the file should be loca_czech

Now onto the config.xml

Open it with text editor and simply search for “language”, the only hit should land you right where you need to be.

That line will tell the game where to look for the language. This is where the name of the loca_ file will be important.
If you dont set the correct language corresponding with the loca_ file, you’ll only be met with this mess.

<Localization Language=”english”/> For English
<Localization Language=”german”/> For German
<Localization Language=”french”/> For French
<Localization Language=”italian”/> For Italian
<Localization Language=”spanish”/> For Spanish
<Localization Language=”english”/> For Russian
<Localization Language=”english”/> For Polish
<Localization Language=”czech”/> For Czech

Now there is just one more thing to address – according to the store page for Black Mirror III it should have full audio support for 6 languages.
The only ones working are English, German and Czech though. French, Italian and Spanish will only play the English voice over.

While I have an idea as to why it doesnt work, I couldnt find a way to make it work.
My suspicion is that its related to the file loca_chapter1 and it seems its not properly set up with the other languages. But what do I know, I’ve already put too much effort into this as it is.

The End

While I did some extensive testing switching languages, there might still be some things I’m not aware of myself yet.

Any feedback is appreciated and I hope this can be of some help to properly enjoy Black Mirror III in the language you prefer.
