How to complete all Story Mode Speed Challenges under 90% Mountainhammer Time for Cobalt

How to complete all Story Mode Speed Challenges under 90% Mountainhammer Time

Overview

A guide on how to achieve 90% Mountainhammer time in Story Mode

Preparation

Make sure you have the following items:

  • at least 1 Thermal Bomb
  • at least 2 Stick Grenades
  • a fully upgraded Shield Belt(I’m using Hard Shield Belt)
  • several Shield Belt Batteries
  • a fully upgraded Phaser
  • a fully upgraded Matter Army Issue
  • a fully upgraded Matter Cannon
  • full Scouter hull set

If you don’t want to read the guide, just watch the video instead:

The following tips do not guarantee you get #1 on each speed challenge, but you can absolutely get 90% Mountainhammer time using them.

Cat Peak

This one is easy. Just throw a Thermal Bomb or several Stick Grenades behind you. Done!

Andromeda Slopes

Still apply the same strategy, throwing a Thermal Bomb or several Stick Grenades. In the video, I use Phaser to get a slight speed boost, but you can totally complete the level without it.

Hottest Run

Stick Grenades…Stick Grenades are always good!

Fort Furnace

Just blow yourself up. Remember to hold Duck key.

Molten Jump Canyon

The real challenges start here. First, you need to practice using Phaser. Just tap Roll key followed by Attack key. When you are comfortable with Phaser, start practicing this level!

There are two routes on this map, I choose the upper one because it’s easier for me. You can still choose the lower one if you want.

Tip:

  • The slope to the left of spawn point will give you a significant speed boost. Make good use of it!

Matter of Trust

On this map, you need a fully upgraded Matter Cannon, because its pushback gives you a significant speed boost. You will probably need to practice using it.

Tips:

  • Use Matter Cannon to get speed boost. Press Roll key, and when you are aiming at the back, press Attack key
  • Don’t slow down after you are teleported. You need that speed to dodge missiles
  • You can reach the exit by touching the saw, but you can also use Phaser to jump before you reach the saw

Elevator Dive

A Thermal Bomb will help you get a significant advantage on this map.

Tips:

  • Throw a Thermal Bomb to the sentries
  • Use Stick Grenades to gain a significant speed boost

Energy and Matter

Practice, Practice is the only real strategy for this map. Even though I have several tips for this map, I can’t apply them successfully in a single run through.

Tips:

  • Roll-Jump at the door near spawn point will give you a significant speed boost
  • When you are falling, throwing a Thermal Bomb upwards not only clears out the sentries but also gives you a slight speed boost
  • You don’t need to wait for the saw falling down
  • Retain you speed when you jump through the two doors(which I fail to do in the video)
